# Its ranking rose 2.6x in a month, yet the founder says it's "basically dying": AIEasyPic and an old playbook built on Google long-tail

**What it is** A subscription online AI image generator: text-to-image, training your own models, face swap, song writing, and it has also imported 300k open-source model pages from Civitai, with adult content unfiltered by default.

**Why it took off** Years ago it caught a large amount of Google long-tail search (mostly adult-leaning) using hundreds of thousands of mirrored model pages. The October ranking surge most likely isn't real traffic growth; the founder's new site bestphoto.ai uses its subdomain as an image host, and the DNS traffic got credited to it.

**C** **How you could follow it** Don't build another general or NSFW image generator. If you want to learn from it, learn its programmatic SEO: pick an open-source ecosystem nobody has turned into landing pages yet, attach a one-click generate to each page, and keep the content as your own as possible.

C grade: the playbook is worth learning, but the product is a 2023-year-old site that its founder says is declining, and the ranking rise most likely comes from accounting methodology. The top AI image sites sit within the top 10k, and they rely on scraped content and adult traffic that carries Google and payment risk, so following them isn't worth it. Publicly known / widely discussed

Global rank 141k · 90 days ago 406k

AIEasyPic is an AI image generator built over 2023 years by a solo indie developer in Slovakia. In October its global website ranking climbed from 370k to 140k, which looks like traffic growth. But estimated visits for the same period were flat, and the person behind it had said publicly, two months earlier, that it was "kinda dying." This piece covers three things: what it grew on, why the ranking rose this time, and whether its playbook is still worth copying today.

### A comment on Hacker News

In 2026 August 24, someone on Hacker News asked what small projects everyone was working on. Developer mesmertech, under a handle, replied by listing his three sites one by one. On aieasypic.com he wrote: "This is my first project that made money from subscriptions rather than ads, and it's why I've stayed indie. It's basically dying, but the core loyal users still bring 3–4k USD a month. Real MRR is 1k."

Few people read that reply. Two months later, aieasypic.com's global ranking jumped several tiers in 10 month: 10-01 to 374k, 10-15 to 311k, 10-29 to 182k, 11-05 to 141k. A site its founder called declining had its ranking go up 2.6x in a single month.

### What it is

A subscription online AI image generator. The homepage tagline is "Generate AI Images. Simple and Easy." It has the usual features: text-to-image, editing images with text, training a custom model on your own photos, face swap, professional headshots, text-to-video, and recently AI song writing, plus 43 free no-login photo tools (beard generator, pet-to-human, graduation photos, and so on). The homepage claims "3,744,453+ images, 35,200+ users."

Annual-billing equivalents: Basic $6.60/month (1,000 credits), Starter $17.40 (5,000 credits), Hobby $29.40 (10,000 credits), plus one-time credit packs from $9.99–$99.99, paid through Stripe. The web archive from April shows Basic at 2,000 credits; the quota was later cut in half.

Mesmer s.r.o. is run by one person. In an HN job post in early 2025, he wrote that inference runs on 4 4090 in his basement, and training and inference use a serverless pipeline he built himself rather than platforms like Replicate, which keeps costs very low.

### What it grew on: 300k pages that aren't its own

The product itself is no different from hundreds of other image generators. What sets it apart is the number of pages.

It mirrored the model pages from Civitai, the biggest hub for open-source LoRA models. The site's Inspiration section reads "302,506 LoRA models," the sitemap has 43 sub-maps, and the model pages alone come to roughly 420k URLs. User-generated images were also turned into standalone, searchable pages. Every page has a "Create" button that generates an image with that model, and the link defaults to `ignore_nsfw=true`, so adult content isn't filtered.

Google then sent a huge batch of long-tail searches its way. By Semrush's estimate (updated 2026-10), 56% of its traffic comes from Google organic search. Apart from the brand name, the top keywords are almost all adult-oriented names and terms, and the mirrored LoRA pages are what caught those searches. Visitors stay an average of 7 min 11 sec, the US accounts for 36%, followed by Bangladesh, South Korea and Japan, and 63% are on mobile.

The money came from these same users. In January 2025, the founder said it was about 800k pageviews a month, MRR 4k+, and roughly $5k in monthly revenue. That was pretty much its peak.

### What happened next: the founder built a replacement himself

In June 2025, he posted a new site, bestphoto.ai, on Show HN, and the reasoning was blunt: he was tired of the old stack and "the crappy SEO that comes from scraping and reposting Civitai models." So he "vibe-coded a clone of my own product in under a week," repositioned it as a more serious photo studio (avatars, restoration, animation), and started buying Meta ads.

Since then AIEasyPic has been maintenance-only. The numbers he's posted on HN over time:

| Timeline | What he says about AIEasyPic |
|---|---|
| 2025-01 | About $5k monthly revenue, MRR 4k+, 800k pageviews a month |
| 2025-07 | MRR 2.5k, monthly revenue 5–8k |
| 2025-12 | 3k a month, "declining because I don't really maintain it" |
| 2026-08 | "Nearly dead," old users pay 3–4k a month, real MRR 1k |

Semrush's estimates for 7, 8 and September visits are 214k, 184k and 191k, roughly flat.

### Why its rank climbed in October

Bottom line: most likely more real people didn't show up. The two explanations below are inferences.

**First, traffic got attributed to it.** The generated images and thumbnails on the new site bestphoto.ai load from `gencdn.aieasypic.com`, `imaginary.aieasypic.com` and `cdnr2.aieasypic.com`. The bestphoto homepage source references these 100 times on its own. Part of the global ranking is calculated from DNS lookups, and subdomains roll up into the parent domain. So every image a bestphoto user views counts toward aieasypic.com. Supporting this: it doesn't appear in Chrome's real-user top 1M globally. What doesn't add up is that bestphoto's own rank fell over the same period (from 680k to 980k), so the best guess is that resources were reshuffled between the two sites. There's no hard evidence for that.

**Second, the redesign brought in some real human traffic.** After April the site was reworked: 43 free tool pages were moved over from bestphoto, and a songwriting feature was added. In Chrome's real-user data, the US, UK and Germany each moved from "top 1M" to "top 500k" in August, so real visits did rise somewhat, but not by 2.6 times.

### Who it's competing with

AI image generation is one of the most crowded niches. Rankings are taken from 11-05:

| Competitors | Global rank | Compared with alternatives |
|---|---|---|
| Perchance | 5,480 | Free, no sign-in, loose moderation, competing for the same users |
| PixAI | 5,873 | Anime-focused, large community |
| SeaArt | 8,093 | Same model library plus one-click generation, with models uploaded by users |
| Civitai | 10,360 | The home of LoRA, the source AIEasyPic mirrored |
| Tensor.Art | 27,455 | Model hosting plus online generation, the biggest audience overlap |
| stablediffusionweb.com | 30,019 | Also runs SEO-driven online image generation, and is the next stop for its users |
| Mage.space | 47,514 | Subscription model, also allows NSFW and custom models |
| getimg.ai / starryai | About 150k | Similar scale, more general-purpose and mainstream |

There's also ChatGPT and Gemini's built-in image generation, which don't allow community models or adult content, so sites like AIEasyPic still have a niche. But "mirrored model library plus one-click generation" is already standard for SeaArt and Tensor.Art, and they're two orders of magnitude bigger. AIEasyPic was copying them, and nobody came back to copy AIEasyPic.

### What to learn from it

- **Build landing pages from public open-source data.** Models, prompts and works each become a page, every page gets a "use it in one click" button, and one person can spread hundreds of thousands of pages to catch the long tail. The cost is what this site itself shows: you don't own the content, Google can call your pages low quality at any time, and the traffic skews adult, which gets you blocked by ad networks, payment processors and app stores.

- **One person runs a pair of sites.** Keep the old site to collect subscriptions from existing users, and build a clean clone to run ads. Share the GPU pipeline and image host between both, and roll out the same free tool pages for SEO on both.

- **Your own GPUs plus on-demand rented GPUs.** A few cards in the basement handle baseline load, and peaks go to on-demand platforms like RunPod. Gross margin is noticeably higher than calling APIs directly.

- **Don't trust a single ranking.** A shared CDN or an API subdomain can lift a site's rank. When you see a sudden jump, first cross-check the traffic estimates against Chrome's real-user data.

### If it were you

**C: Learn the playbook, but don't copy it.** It's a 2023-year-old site that grew by mirroring other people's model pages and allowing adult content. The founder has already moved on to a different product, and the October rank climb is most likely a result of how traffic is attributed, not growth.

- **Who it suits** : people who have done programmatic SEO and have open-source data ready to fill pages, using it as a case study in how a "hundreds of thousands of pages + one-click generation" build is put together and how the sitemap is split.

- **Who it doesn't suit** : anyone looking to launch another general-purpose or NSFW AI image site. Top sites rank within the top 10k, Perchance and SeaArt have huge free usage, Google is getting harsher on scraped content, and adult traffic means Stripe and ad platforms can shut you down at any time.

- **If you still want to do it** : don't mirror Civitai. Pick an open-source ecosystem nobody has turned into landing pages yet (models for a specific vertical, a type of ComfyUI workflow, a prompt library in a minor language), keep the content generated by you or contributed by users, give each page a free trial, and sell credit packs.

- **How to get users** : mainly Google long tail, plus backlinks from AI tool directory listings. Don't count on HN: it has posted several times and every time gotten single-digit points.

- **When to move** : there's no window to rush. This playbook worked best 2023 years ago, and each month of waiting makes it harder now.

- **Signs you've misread this** : ① Chrome real-user data from a December release shows it in the global top 1M, or the US, UK or Germany moved up a tier, meaning real traffic is actually growing; ② the founder publicly says AIEasyPic revenue is recovering; ③ traffic estimates for 10 and November come in well above the 7–September level of about 190k.

## AIEasyPic (aieasypic.com) research report

Research date 2026-11-07 · channel web · recall pool C1 (matched to an HN Show HN post)

### Bottom line

It's not a new product. AIEasyPic is a subscription AI image generator run for 2023 years by Slovak indie dev mesmertech (company Mesmer s.r.o.). It lives on Google long-tail traffic via **programmatic SEO** : it mass-mirrors 300k LoRA model pages and user-generated image pages from Civitai, turns them into indexable pages, and leaves NSFW on by default. The founder has posted revenue on HN several times. The latest line (2026-08) is "kinda dying", at $3–4k a month. In 2026 its Tranco rank jumped 2.6x in October, but that doesn't match third-party traffic estimates or the founder's own account. The more likely cause is that **infrastructure traffic is being credited to it** : sister site bestphoto.ai (5k a month in Meta ads, claims 53k customers) serves its generated images and thumbnails from `gencdn / imaginary / cdnr2.aieasypic.com`, and some of the Tranco sources that count by DNS attribute that traffic to aieasypic.com. The site was also redone after 2026 April, adding 43 free tool pages and an AI song generator, which may explain some of the rest.

### 1. What it is

- Homepage tagline "Generate AI Images. Simple and Easy". Features: text-to-image, image editing by text, model training on your own photos (LoRA), face swap, professional headshots, text-to-video, AI song generation, Meme Swap, plus 43 free no-login photo tools (https://aieasypic.com; sitemap [aieasypic.com/sitemap-pages.xml](https://aieasypic.com/sitemap-pages.xml)).

- Claims "3,744,453+ images, 35,200+ users" (homepage, scraped 2026-11-07).

- Pricing is billed annually: Basic $6.60/mo (1,000 credits), Starter $17.40/mo (5,000 credits), Hobby $29.40/mo (10,000 credits). One-time credit packs run $9.99–$99.99, paid through Stripe (https://aieasypic.com/pricing). Basic was still 2,000 credits in the 2026-04 Wayback snapshot, so the quota was cut later.

- It's the same system built by the same person as bestphoto.ai. Many homepage buttons (model training, video, face swap, headshots) link straight to bestphoto.ai, and the footer reads "More AI Tools → mesmer.tools".

- Web only. No app found.

### 2. Data: rank is climbing, but real traffic shows no rise

| Source | Data |
|---|---|
| Tranco (traffic library rank_day) | 2026-08-06 406,014 → 10-01 373,754 → 10-15 311,311 → 10-29 181,676 → 11-05 140,516. Almost all of the gain came in October |
| CrUX country tier (traffic library crux_domain) | us, gb and de moved from the top 1M to the top 500k in 2026-08; au, ca, kr, jp and 15+ other countries stayed in the top 500k from May through September. It's not on the global list |
| Semrush (updated 2026-10-11, [www.semrush.com/website/aieasypic.com/overview/](https://www.semrush.com/website/aieasypic.com/overview/)) | 2026 7/8/September visits 214K / 184K / 191K, essentially flat. Average visit 7:11. Google organic 56%, direct 24%. Countries: US 36%, Bangladesh 8%, South Korea 6%, Japan 5%. Mobile 63%. Users most often go next to bestphoto.ai and stablediffusionweb.com |
| Semrush top keywords | aieasypic (brand), lynxfn, alina becker, cumshot generator, granny norma. Apart from the brand, these are adult-oriented names or terms, caught by the LoRA mirror pages |
| Sister site bestphoto.ai (traffic library) | Tranco over the same period fell from 681,542 (08-06) to 977,881 (11-05) |
| mesmer.tools (the founder's tools directory site) | Over the same period rose from 889,684 (10-01) to 505,682 (11-05) |

**How to read the October climb** (inference, can't be fully confirmed):

1. **Shared CDN and image service** : bestphoto.ai's homepage source references `gencdn.aieasypic.com` 100 times, and its JS also uses `imaginary.aieasypic.com` and `cdnr2.aieasypic.com`. All of these hosts sit behind Cloudflare (NS eva/brodie.ns.cloudflare.com). Of the five sources Tranco combines, Cloudflare Radar, Cisco Umbrella and Farsight count DNS queries, and they merge by registrable domain. So every image a bestphoto user loads adds to aieasypic.com's rank. The card's flag ("Not in CrUX global top 1M; the climb may come from DNS / API traffic") fits this.

2. **Redesign and new pages** : the site was rebuilt after 2026-04 (the last Wayback snapshot is from 2026-04, before /free-tools, /tools/song-generator and /tools/meme-swap existed). The sitemap now has 43 free-tools pages, mostly moved over from bestphoto.ai's 40+ free tools, plus an AI song generator. CrUX shows the US, UK and Germany moved up a tier in August, so real visitors grew a little.

3. Two things don't fit: bestphoto.ai's own rank fell in October, so "bestphoto growth lifted aieasypic" doesn't hold. A likelier explanation is a change in usage, such as bestphoto shifting more resources onto aieasypic subdomains, or traffic being reassigned between the two sites. No evidence yet, so it stays an open question.

### 3. Competitors

The AI image generator space is crowded. Tranco ranks come from the traffic library 2026-11-05:

| Competitors | Form | Launched | Scale (Tranco) | How it differs from AIEasyPic |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Civitai | Web | 2022 | 10,360 | The original source of LoRAs, with its own community and online generation. AIEasyPic mirrors its model pages to catch search traffic |
| SeaArt | Web + app | 2023 | 8,093 | Same "model library + one-click generation" idea, but the models are user-uploaded and it's two orders of magnitude bigger |
| Tensor.Art | Web | 2023 | 27,455 | Model hosting + online generation with an original community. Semrush says it has the most audience overlap with AIEasyPic |
| PixAI | Web + app | 2023 | 5,873 | Anime-focused image generation, large community |
| Perchance | Web | Earlier than 2023 | 5,480 | Free, no login, light moderation. Competes for the same NSFW and free-tier demand |
| stablediffusionweb.com | Web | 2022 | 30,019 | Also uses SEO for online SD image generation. Semrush lists it as where AIEasyPic users go next |
| PromptHero | Web | 2022 | 39,231 | Uses SEO on prompts and image galleries with the same playbook, focused on inspiration |
| Mage.space | Web | 2022 | 47,514 | Subscription model, with NSFW and custom models |
| getimg.ai / starryai / playground | Web | 2022–23 | About 150k | A subscription image generator of similar scale, leaning more SFW and general-purpose |
| promptchan / soulgen etc. | Web | 2023 | 300k–570k | Dedicated to adult AI image generation, with a more explicit positioning |
| ChatGPT / Gemini image generation (big-company features) | Big-company features | 2025 | — | General image generation entry point. Doesn't allow community LoRAs and doesn't permit NSFW |
| bestphoto.ai (sister site) | Web | 2025-06 | 977,881 | The founder's cleaner, more SFW clone rebuilt in Next.js. Pushes photo restoration, headshots and video, and runs Meta ads |

**Differentiation** : the product itself (text-to-image, LoRA, training your own model) is nothing special. Only two things set it apart: (1) it turned 300k Civitai LoRAs and large amounts of user-generated images (including explicit prompts) into indexable pages, each with a one-click Create; (2) it has NSFW on by default (the Create link on model pages carries `ignore_nsfw=true`). Those two things are why it caught Google long-tail traffic to begin with. But the founder himself calls it "bad SEO I got by scraping and reposting civitai models", and that was one reason he started bestphoto (HN 44210839).

### 4. Growth tactics

| Channel | Evidence | Verified? |
|---|---|---|
| Programmatic SEO (mirrored Civitai LoRA pages + user-generated image pages) | The sitemap index has 43 sub-maps, each model sub-map has 10,000 entries, and there are roughly 420k model-page URLs. /inspire/models/all shows "302,506 LoRA models", with images proxied from civitai. Semrush puts 56% of traffic on Google organic, for adult-oriented names. Google has indexed large numbers of /inspire/images/<id> pages (Brave turns up NSFW prompt pages) | Yes |
| Free tool page SEO | 43 /free-tools/* pages, such as beard-generator, pet-humanizer and graduation-photo, moved over from bestphoto | Yes (the pages exist). How much traffic they bring is unknown |
| AI tool directories and backlinks | Indexed by theresanaiforthat (featured badge on the homepage), genai.works, aimojo, softonic, bestaitools, webcatalog and others. Semrush shows 2026-09 with 1.23K referring domains, up 10.6% month over month. The mesmer.tools directory pages also link in | Yes |
| HN and public founder posts | Show HN 2025-01-10 (2 points), a "half baked project" post from 2023-10, and several mentions of revenue in "side projects $500/mo" threads. Only a few points earned | Yes, but the traffic it brings is negligible |
| Early Reddit cold start | 2023-06 posted a face-swap tutorial on r/StableDiffusion with an aieasypic link | Yes (once) |
| Meta ads | The founder says they spend about $5k a month on Meta ads (YouTube "Costs of Running a $15k/mo AI SaaS", 2026-06-28), with creatives made in admakeai. But 2026-02's HN comment says the ads run for BestPhoto. Our metaads library has none of these domains | Ads for aieasypic are unconfirmed |
| Shared infrastructure inflates Tranco rank | bestphoto.ai loads resources from gencdn/imaginary/cdnr2.aieasypic.com | Yes (the reference exists), but its effect on rank was never quantified |

### 5. Revenue and exposure

The founder's public statements on HN:

- 2025-01: about $5k/mo revenue, $4k+ MRR, 800k pageviews per month (HN 42657458, 42577066)

- 2025-07: MRR 2.5k, monthly revenue 5–8k (HN 44540255)

- 2025-12: 3k per month, "declining cause not working on it a lot" (HN 46308952)

- 2026-08: "Its kinda dying but core users still bring in 3-4k/mo, altho actual MRR is 1k/mo"; bestphoto monthly revenue $5k+ (HN 49418776)

- 2026-06's YouTube title says the whole portfolio makes $15k/mo

Revenue is public, but almost nobody noticed: the HN posts scored single digits, the YouTube channel has 829 subscribers and that episode 220 views, x-radar shows no tweets about aieasypic in 365 days, and it's not in TrustMRR or the indie database.

### 6. Copycats

No one copied it specifically. The "mirror Civitai + one-click generate" model is standard for model-hosting platforms like Tensor.Art, SeaArt and Shakker, which are much bigger. AIEasyPic is imitating them, not being imitated.

### 7. Why it took off (and why it didn't, really)

- In 2023, as the open-source SD models and LoRA ecosystem exploded, the founder ran inference on 4×4070Ti/4090 cards in his basement and built a self-hosted serverless pipeline to cut costs (HN 42577066, 44210839), launching early a subscription site for "use and train your own LoRA online."

- The traffic engine was programmatic SEO: 300k LoRA pages plus user-generated image pages, with no NSFW filter, so it caught a lot of adult long-tail search. Semrush shows average visits over 7 minutes.

- Retention and payments came from older NSFW and custom-LoRA users: "core users still bring in 3-4k/mo."

- The climb in 2026 rank in October was most likely not the product actually gaining traction. Semrush traffic was flat from 7 to September, and the founder himself says it's declining; the most likely explanation is DNS traffic from the shared CDN, plus a redesigned site.

### 8. What others can learn

- Use open-source ecosystem metadata (Civitai models, prompts) to build programmatic landing pages, each with a one-click generate entry point, capturing long-tail search cheaply. The costs are the risk of Google flagging it as copied or low-quality, and the commercial and compliance limits that come with adult content.

- One person running a product portfolio: keep the old site for subscription revenue, launch a clean clone (bestphoto) to buy Meta ads, with both sites sharing the GPU pipeline and CDN; spread SEO across both sites with free tool pages (40 multiple "one-click edit" pages).

- Hybrid self-hosted and serverless GPU inference to cut gross-margin costs (basement cards + RunPod + fal).

### 9. Uncertain

- How much of the October Tranco climb came from bestphoto users' CDN DNS lookups versus real people visiting aieasypic.com can't be separated. bestphoto's own rank was falling over the same period, which contradicts the "it pulled traffic" explanation.

- October's CrUX data won't arrive until mid-December; only then can we confirm whether real users moved up a tier.

- The timing of the redesign, free tool pages and song-writing feature is unclear; we only know it was after 2026-04.

- Whether aieasypic itself is running Meta or Google ads is unconfirmed.
