Capafy: a Skill marketplace took off, but what carried it wasn't Skills
What it is An online marketplace for selling AI Agent skills. Creators upload a Skill, the platform packages it into a paid Agent that runs online, and takes a 20% cut.
Why it blew up A top Agent, CloneCut, packaged ByteDance's Seedance 2.0, a video model that's hard to get outside China, as a tool for "making money with YouTube channels using AI." The platform pays creators by view to get side-hustle sock-puppet accounts in Italy, Mexico, France, Brazil and elsewhere to post videos in bulk and drive traffic.
BHow you could follow it Stop building Skill marketplaces. Find a popular model that's unavailable overseas, package it as a subscription tool with tutorials, and use a CPM-based creator program to post videos in bulk across non-English countries that haven't been tapped yet.
Global rank 191k · 90 days ago, top 1M+
A Singapore company, incorporated in April 2026 years ago, launched an "Agent Skill app store" at the end of May and climbed into the global top 200k websites within half a year. It looks like a two-sided market where developers list SKILL.md files for sale, but the traffic and revenue actually came from the platform's own video Agent, plus a creator program that pays per view, deployed across non-English markets like Italy, Mexico, France and Brazil. The part worth learning is that playbook, not "build another Skill marketplace."
One Italian-language video with 550k views
In Sep 2026 7, the Italian TikTok account @matteoaita posted a video that opened with: "E se potessi creare un canale YouTube di animazione 3D usando l'AI?" (What if you could create a 3D animation YouTube channel using AI?). The method was laid out in detail: define a 3D character, have ChatGPT write a prompt for a one-minute video, hand it to "CloneCut, an AI Agent on Capafy," get a finished video in minutes, and post it to YouTube. As usual, the caption ended with a disclaimer: "No guarantee of views, channel growth or income."
By early November the video had about 555k views. The same account posted other Capafy Agents that day (HookAce, which analyzes why videos get no views). In Sep 10 it posted a CloneCut ASMR video (120k views), and in Oct 28 a CloneCut kids' video (180k views).
He's not alone. Around the same time, a batch of "AI side hustle" accounts ran the same playbook: @modo.extra.ia.tip in Mexico (9-30 posts, 1.36M views), @icecoldr6 in the US (9-61.6M), @angie.ia.new in Spain (10-14.8M), plus accounts in the UAE, France, Brazil, Germany, South Korea and Qatar. All used the same template: "he's living in 2077", "why isn't school teaching this", "comment Capafy and I'll DM you the tutorial", with content about making money from kids' animation or ASMR channels with CloneCut. @modo.extra.ia.tip was still posting two or three times a day through Nov 6, with #capafy in every hashtag set.
What it is
Capafy (capafy.ai) calls itself "Expert Agents, ready for your task." Creators upload a SKILL.md (a skill-instruction file for AI coding tools like Claude Code). The platform wraps it into an Agent that runs online with its source code hidden, and buyers open it in the browser or install it into Claude Code or Codex. There are three ways to charge: monthly subscription, hourly rental, or a one-time source-code download. The platform takes 20%, plus a 0.99 USD verification fee for a first listing.
For developers the pitch is appealing: open-source Skills don't make money, but here they can be closed-source, run in the cloud, and charge monthly. On launch day in May 26, TestingCatalog posted the launch on X (tagged Paid partnership), and the Chinese-language account @xiaohu reposted it the same day. The next day someone called it the "AI Skill App Store moment."
How it took off
On the global site ranking (Tranco), capafy.ai was around rank 930k in Sep 17, 550k in Oct 1, 290k in Oct 22, and 190k in Nov 5. Three months earlier it wasn't in the top 1M. By Chrome real-user tiers, it was in the global top 1M in July and reached the top 100k in September.
The key is where growth came from. In September the countries that jumped tiers were Italy, South Korea and Mexico (into the top 50k), and Brazil, Spain, France and Turkey (into the top 100k). The US, UK and Germany only reached the top 500k. The traffic came mainly from non-English mass markets, not American developers. That lines up almost one-for-one with the countries of the TikTok videos above, and with the timing (early September to early November).
How those videos came about, Capafy spelled out on its own site. capafy.ai/campaign is called "Capafy Earn," under the headline "Official Creator Program": log in, connect your social accounts, post a video about a Capafy Agent to Instagram, TikTok or YouTube, paste the link into the dashboard, and "Every approved video earns at the campaign's CPM", meaning every approved video is paid per thousand views. The page's sample balance shows $3,500 and a weekly income of +$1,300.
In other words, anyone posting a video from any account can earn by views. This is the "clipping" approach that short-form distributors talk about: skip big influencers and use dozens or hundreds of small accounts, give them a template, and pay by views. Some videos carried #ad or a "Promoted by" label. The CPM rate and total budget aren't visible from outside, and no record turned up of them also buying Meta or TikTok ads.
Where the money comes from: almost all of it from one Agent
The homepage sorts by units sold. The top of the list looks like this (capafy.ai, early November):
| Agent | What it does | Sold | Pricing |
|---|---|---|---|
| CloneCut | Seedance 2.0 video cloning / generation | 48k units, 4.6 rating | US$9.99–12.5 / mo |
| Ocup | Football match analysis | 3,152 pieces | — |
| Serenity Stock Tracker | Turn an X influencer's posts into a daily bull/bear digest | 2,238 pieces | — |
| HookAce | Analyze why videos aren't popular | 1,203 pieces | — |
| Alpha Consensus | Stock opinion roundup | 1,044 pieces | — |
The long tail below that mostly sits at 0–50 units.
CloneCut is really selling one model. ByteDance's video model Seedance 2.0 began restricting international access in February this year: there's a queue, and BytePlus requires prepayment and doesn't accept foreign cards (complaints about this appear on Reddit r/generativeAI and elsewhere). CloneCut's copy says "no long queues," packaging it as an Agent that "helps you write storyboards" and selling it monthly. The creator videos don't sell a Skill either; they sell "making money with kids' / ASMR channels using AI." Its landing page clonecut.net/capafy-clone-cut states outright: "Estimated YouTube revenue of $1,000–5,000 per million views."
The revenue figures are all published by the platform itself: the /earn page lists CloneCut as a best practice at "US$200k+/mo". In Oct 21, the official X account posted that CloneCut had "sales over $30K in 289 days," and @systemdesignone repeated it the same day, also tagged Paid partnership. No third party has verified this, and it's unclear how many of the "48k units" were trials or first-week discounts.
CloneCut's publisher account is called saya, and it also runs its own sites clonecut.net and capafyai.com (which use the "Capafy AI" brand too). It's probably the platform's own in-house product (an inference; no explicit evidence was found).
For ordinary creators, the numbers look much worse. One Chinese creator with 16 Skills listed in Jun 26 posted on Instagram: over a few weeks they were paid $12.20, while API costs ran $70, for a net loss of about $58. Only 14 of 71 trials converted. On Reddit r/AI_Sales, someone posted "22 Skills, one month, 25.7k impressions, 3 sales."
Who it's competing with
Capafy isn't the only "closed-source, cloud-run, subscription-split" Skill marketplace, but it's the only one that took off:
| Product | Approach | Global rank (11-05) |
|---|---|---|
| MuleRun | The earliest "AI Agent marketplace"; creators have to rebuild their Agents on its platform | 310k, 30 days ago 250k, declining |
| Agent37 | Also hosted runs, doesn't hand over source code | 860k |
| Agensi / SkillHQ / KissMySkills | Sells SKILL.md files for download; buyers get the source | Not in the top 1M |
| SkillsMP | Free open-source Skill directory; from Aug 20 it added a "Run on Capafy" button on pages to send traffic over | 108k |
| skills.sh(Vercel)/ ClawHub | Open source and free, installed with one command | 64k / 73k |
| Higgsfield / Dreamina / GlobalGPT | Seedance 2.0's overseas entry point, competing with CloneCut for the same paying users | Higgsfield 4,311 |
The real rival is in the last row. For people who want to make videos with Seedance, Capafy is just another entry point. What it wins is positioning and distribution, not the model. RedSkill, which Xiaohongshu (RedNote) is testing (attaching Skill links to recommendation posts for sale), is the domestic version and isn't going overseas for now.
If it were you
B. Worth a try, but don't copy its Skill marketplace; copy its playbook: find a popular model that's unavailable overseas or hard to use, package it as a tool with tutorials, and pay per view to get side-hustle accounts in non-English countries to spread videos. Building another Skill marketplace isn't worth it: long-tail Skills don't sell, open-source directories are free, and Capafy already owns that positioning.
Who it fits: 1–2 people, at least one of whom has managed creators or short-video distribution and knows how to find dozens of accounts, set a CPM, and review videos; a few thousand dollars on hand to spend on views up front; ideally direct access to the API or a reseller channel for a Chinese model that hasn't formally gone global yet (video, image, voice).
Who it doesn't fit: people who only want to write code and count on developer word-of-mouth or SEO to bring volume (Capafy's own long-tail creators are the counterexample); people who want the English market as their main battleground (large entry points like Higgsfield are already there); people unwilling to touch "teach you to earn money" messaging, since its conversions depend on exactly that.
How to do it: Web, not an app. Pick one concrete use case (kids' animation, ASMR, short-form product videos, local business sites), wrap one model in a shell that helps write prompts / storyboards, sell it as a weekly or monthly subscription for $8–15 a month. The first screen of the landing page should tell the story of how much you can earn with it, with sample finished videos below.
How to get users: Copy Capafy Earn: build a creator page paid per CPM. Start with two or three countries (ones like Italy, Mexico, Brazil where Capafy has already proven the "AI side hustle" pitch converts, or Southeast Asia and Eastern Europe where it hasn't spread yet), and give each country a local-language template: a hooky opener + step-by-step demo + "comment the keyword and I'll DM you." Run small budgets for two weeks, see which country has the lowest cost per paying user, then spend more there (inference).
Deadline: Scarcity windows like Seedance's are measured in months. Once ByteDance opens direct overseas access, CloneCut-style resale has no reason to exist. So move as early as possible, ideally run one full cycle before the start of 2027, and have the next "not available overseas" model ready.
Where I could be wrong: ① Seedance 2.0 opens overseas with no waitlist, and capafy.ai keeps climbing anyway. That would mean the platform itself is the draw, not scarce model access. ② Capafy Earn gets pulled, or #capafy videos visibly drop off, and its ranking holds. That would mean the traffic wasn't bought. ③ Third-party data shows CloneCut's renewal rate is low and revenue drops sharply. That would mean the "side hustle story" only works once, and the playbook needs a new angle.

Why Capafy (capafy.ai) showed up
Verdict
Capafy is an Agent Skill marketplace run by the Singapore company CAPAFY PTE. LTD., registered 2026-04-30, launched 2026-05-26. Creators upload a SKILL.md, the platform wraps it into a paid agent that runs online without exposing source code, and takes a 20% cut.
Its web traffic didn't take off because developers sold Skills. It took off because the platform built a pay-per-view creator program (Capafy Earn). The program got small "AI side hustle" creators in FR/IT/MX/ES/BR/DE/Arabic-speaking markets/KR to post in bulk on TikTok and Instagram. The content uniformly pitches "make money with AI kids/ASMR YouTube channels" and funnels viewers to the flagship agent CloneCut. CloneCut resells ByteDance's Seedance 2.0 video generation to overseas users at $9.99–12.5 a month. Its publisher account saya runs both its own site clonecut.net and capafyai.com, which is likely the platform's own (unverified).
The two-sided "Skill marketplace" model gave it a story that's easy to tell and goodwill among developers. What actually drove paying users and traffic was the mass demand for "Seedance 2.0 isn't available overseas + make money on YouTube with AI," plus creator reach paid by CPM.
1. Data (from our databases)
- Tranco rank (traffic library, rank_day): 2026-09-17 is 930,900,10-01 is 550,148,10-22 is 290,157,11-05 is 190,781; 90 days ago it was outside the top 1M. The climb started in mid-September and accelerated in October, which lines up with the concentrated posting of the TikTok videos below (early September to early November).
- CrUX (crux_domain): globally, 2026-07 in the top 1M, 08 in the top 500k, 09 in the top 100k. Taiwan has been in the top 2026-06k since 50, making it the earliest market (launch-period Taiwanese accounts like capafy_tw and doomsdaywithai promoted it, and many publishers are Taiwanese). The September jump came from it, kr, and mx (top 50k), and br, es, fr, and tr (top 100k). us, gb, and de only reach the top 500k. In other words, the traffic comes mainly from non-English mass markets, not US developers.
- Ad libraries: metaads, googleads, and tiktokads have no advertiser records for capafy or clonecut (these libraries only track listed products, so no match doesn't mean no spend). The x-radar corpus has 0 capafy posts.
- No app. All traffic is on the web (capafy.ai and language subpaths /zh, /zh-hant, /es, /de, /ar, /nl…).
2. What it is and how it makes money
- Homepage (capafy.ai, read 2026-11-07): "Expert Agents, ready for your task". What's sold are agents you open and use in the browser, or install into Claude Code / Codex / OpenClaw / Hermes. Sales counts for the top ones:
- CloneCut (Seedance 2.0 video cloning/generation): 48k copies, 4.6 stars, US$9.99–12.5/mo
- Another agent with about 22.1k copies (in the homepage list, name not captured)
- Ocup football analysis: 3,152 copies
- Serenity Stock Tracker (turns posts from X big voice @aleabitoreddit into daily bullish/bearish reports): 2,238 copies
- Alpha Consensus: 1,044 copies; HookAce: 1,203 copies
- The long tail is mostly 0–50 copies
- Cut (/earn page): the platform takes 20%, the creator gets 80%; a one-time listing verification fee of $0.99; subscription products first deduct a "Platform Sandbox Fee" before splitting. Three models: subscription (cloud-run, closed-source), hourly rental, and one-time download (source code handed to the buyer).
- Best-practice examples posted on the /earn page: CloneCut "US$200k+/mo", Ocup "US$10,000+/mo", Serenity "US$5,000+/week". Capafy's official X account 2026-10-21 posted that CloneCut had "over $289K in sales in 30 days". Neo Kim (@systemdesignone) repeated this figure, and that post is tagged Paid partnership (https://x.com/systemdesignone/status/2112894682766233978).
- Long-tail creators aren't making money. A Chinese creator with 16 Skills listed posted on IG showing a few weeks of payouts at $12.20 against $70 in API costs, a net loss of about $58; 71 trials converted to 14 sales (https://www.instagram.com/p/DaCyFCxyXo3/, 2026-06-26). There's also a Reddit post (r/AI_Sales) reporting "22 Skills, one month, 25.7K impressions, 3 sales".
III. Competitors
| Product | Where | Launched | Scale (Tranco 2026-11-05, traffic library) | How it differs from Capafy |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| MuleRun(mulerun.com) | Web | Mid-2025 | 314,213 (30 days ago 248,774, now falling) | Originally called itself an "AI Agent marketplace", with a Creator Studio where creators build agents and get paid. But it's mostly platform-built agents, not dropping in an existing SKILL.md to list. |
| SkillsMP(skillsmp.com) | Web | End of 2025 | 108,033 | A free open-source Skill directory. Since 2026-08-20 it has partnered with Capafy, and some Skill pages carry a "Run on Capafy" button (capafy.ai/blog/capafy-skillsmp-partnership), which funnels traffic to Capafy. |
| skills.sh(Vercel) | Web / open source | 2026 | 63,822 | Open-source Skills installed with one command, nothing sold |
| ClawHub(clawhub.ai) | Web / open source | 2026 | 73,176 | OpenClaw's official Skill library, open-source and free |
| Agent37(agent37.com) | Web | 2026 | 861,838 | Also pitches hosted runs without handing over source code, selling Claude Skills, but much smaller in scale |
| Agensi (agensi.io), SkillHQ (skillhq.dev), KissMySkills | Web | 2026 | Not in the top 1M | Sells SKILL.md file downloads (revenue split 70%–85%). Buyers get the source code. No cloud execution. |
| Higgsfield / Dreamina / GlobalGPT, etc. | Web | 2025–2026 | Higgsfield 4,311 | The real rivals for CloneCut's paid users are these overseas Seedance 2.0 entry points: more models, bigger names. Capafy's difference is packaging it as an Agent that helps you write storyboards, plus tutorial-style content about making money with a YouTube channel. |
| Xiaohongshu RedSkill (invite-only beta) | Big-company features | 2026 | — | The domestic version: "note-style seeding + Skill links for sale" (a Zhihu article mentions one Skill sold 400k+ copies), China only |
| GPT Store / Poe creator revenue share | Big-company features | From ¥2024 | poe.com 13,331 | Sells GPT/Bots, not portable Skills, weak creator revenue share |
Bottom line: closed-source, cloud-hosted Skill marketplaces with subscription revenue sharing aren't a Capafy-only play (Agent37 and others are in it too). But Capafy is the only one in this group that has reached the top 200K, and it has already passed MuleRun, which launched its Agent marketplace first.
IV. Where the users come from (ranked by strength of evidence)
- Capafy Earn: a creator program that pays per view (confirmed). capafy.ai/campaign calls itself the "Official Creator Program": creators bind their social accounts, post videos about Capafy Agents, paste links into the dashboard, and "Every approved video earns at the campaign's CPM." The page shows a sample balance of $3,500 and weekly earnings of +$1,300. Searching TikTok for capafy / clonecut (2026-11-07) turns up many videos from the same template:
- They all take the form "someone randomly tests a side hustle / he's living in 2077 year / why schools don't teach this / comment Capafy and I'll DM you a tutorial," with content about using CloneCut to make children's 3D animation and ASMR YouTube channels.
- Some are tagged #ad or "Promoted by Capaty."
- View counts: modo.extra.ia.tip (MX) 1.36M, 2026-09-30; icecoldr6 (US) 1.57M, 09-06; angie.ia.new (ES) 757k, 10-14; abubakrxproactorai (AE) 674k, 09-12; ia.babacar (FR) 587k, 10-03; mr.ia2026 (FR) 565k, 09-24; matteoaita (IT) 555k, 09-07; ai.ghost29 (BR) 396k, 09-27; alberto_tech_tips (MX) 337k; everydayaieveryda (QA) 127k; ai_dongdon (KR) 98k; einfachkimitlee (DE) 148k
- These countries almost exactly match the countries where CrUX rank jumped (it, kr, mx, br, es, fr, tr).
- Paid X accounts on launch day (confirmed). 2026-05-26 TestingCatalog posted the launch, tagged Paid partnership (https://x.com/testingcatalog/status/2059275191885176923). On the same day @xiaohu posted in Chinese (https://x.com/xiaohu/status/2059292072830722231), and the next day @VaibhavSisinty posted "The App Store moment for AI Skills"; neither of these posts shows a paid label. 2026-10-21 Neo Kim posted about CloneCut at $289K (Paid partnership). blockchain.news published a story the same day, and Bittime (the Indonesian exchange's blog) 2026-10-14 wrote an intro piece. Tool directories like futurepedia, aixploria and toolin have also listed it.
- Official account matrix and multilingual sites (confirmed). TikTok @capafy_ and @capafy_tw, IG, Threads, YouTube, and X @Capafyai posting "Introducing XX, a Skill agent on Capafy" every day. The website has zh, zh-hant, es, de, ar, nl and other languages, and single-Agent pages also come in multiple languages (e.g., CloneCut's German page), which is long-tail SEO.
- Listing popular open-source Skills (confirmed). The last30days, Claude SEO, UI UX Pro Max, and Baoyu Skills posted on X are all popular open-source Skills on GitHub, repackaged as Agents you can run online with one click. The blog has a dedicated post on "how to monetize GitHub open-source Skills." They borrow the fame of others to draw developer traffic.
- SkillsMP referral partnership (confirmed, 2026-08-20).
- Creators bring their own traffic (partly confirmed). Taiwanese training teachers and IG finance accounts (such as Dave Lee @boss.fdao) move in and then post Reels to sell; "comment Capafy and I'll DM you" IG-style lines also appear a lot.
V. Why it took off
- Timing: Seedance 2.0 isn't available overseas. 2026-02 ByteDance restricted international access: queues, BytePlus requires prepayment, and foreign cards aren't accepted (discussed on tryonr, glbgpt, and Reddit r/generativeAI). CloneCut's pitch is "without waiting through long access queues," selling Seedance 2.0 by the month and by the hour. Most of the top sales (48k copies) sit on this one video Agent.
- What's sold is the "AI side hustle" story, not the Skill itself. Creator videos don't talk about the Skill market; they talk about "making money with an AI children's/ASMR YouTube channel." The clonecut.net/capafy-clone-cut landing page says outright "estimated YouTube revenue of $1,000–$5,000 per million views." This pitch converts very well with "renda extra / ganar dinero" audiences in Brazil, Mexico, France, Italy, and Arabic-speaking regions.
- Paying creators per CPM scales fast. Capafy Earn pays anyone whose small account posts a video by view count, so dozens of small creators across many countries posted the same template content in a short time. This matches the Tranco curve from September to November.
- The two-sided market story earned developer word of mouth. "Skills are open source by default and creators earn nothing; we make them closed-source, run in the cloud, and split subscription revenue." That point hit the developer community, and at launch the paid X accounts' posts drew organic shares. The platform's top also has a "$289K in 30 days" case, which in turn pulls more people to list.
VI. Differentiation
- For creators: closed-source cloud execution (sandbox + encrypted credential injection), three monetization options (subscription, per hour, download), a single SKILL.md you drop in to sell, and it works on the web and in Claude Code / Codex. Agensi and SkillHQ sell files, so the source leaks; MuleRun requires rebuilding the Agent on its own platform.
- For buyers: no environment setup and no API key; click and run.
- But this isn't the main reason it took off. Long-tail Skills mostly don't sell (the loss ledgers creators post above, the Reddit posts about a 3-sale total). What really drove volume was the platform's own (or closely partnered) Seedance video Agent, plus CPM creator scaling. Differentiation let it hold this traffic and tell the story well; the traffic itself was bought and pulled in by the scarcity of a hot model.
7. What's worth borrowing
- The "marketplace" builds the brand; the "hit tool" makes the revenue. It uses the platform narrative to win developer goodwill and press, then uses a self-run hot model wrapped as a product as the cash cow.
- A creator program paying per CPM (clipping playbook), targeting non-English countries where "AI side hustle" demand is strong (Brazil, Mexico, France, Italy, Arabic-speaking regions), with one uniform template per country.
- Packaging a scarce model (this time Seedance 2.0) as an Agent that helps you write storyboards, sold by week or month, feels more like a product than selling credits directly.
- Turning popular GitHub open-source Skills into one-click online runs, and trading referral traffic with Skill directory sites.
8. What's still uncertain
- Whether CloneCut and saya are platform-owned: capafyai.com (same "Capafy AI" brand, [email protected]) and clonecut.net both promote CloneCut, strongly suggesting it's owned by the platform, but we found no explicit evidence.
- The $289K/30 days and 48k copies sold are self-reported by the platform, with sources limited to its own pages and paid promotion. No third-party verification. "Copies" may include trials or first-week discounts.
- Capafy Earn's CPM rate and total campaign budget, and whether it also buys Meta/TikTok paid ads: our ad libraries didn't match, but they aren't on the tracking list.
- Team background: registered in Singapore, strong Chinese and Taiwanese elements; founder identity not found.
- Renewal rate unknown. Whether users on weekly subscriptions or per-video generation churn once Seedance opens overseas.
