One-week trial for $1.99, then $29.99 a month: how chatbot.app climbed from 140k to 45k globally
What it is A multi-model AI chat subscription from TapSuite, part of Turkey's HubX group. One account gives access to GPT, Claude, Gemini and others; the site is simultaneously the web chat entry, the app's official site, and the ad landing page.
Why it took off Since September the group has increased paid acquisition spend, concentrating it on a category keyword domain. The ad landing page sells a one-week trial for $1.99 that converts to $29.99/month. Web checkout avoids the store's commission, so they can afford the traffic. The main users are Android users in emerging markets such as Vietnam, Brazil and Mexico.
CHow you could follow Don't build the Nth multi-model wrapper. Teams that already have a subscription app running paid acquisition can copy its web landing page and separate pricing (low-price trial converting to monthly subscription) and web checkout, and test in emerging markets first.
Global rank 45k · 90 days ago 134k
A Turkish app studio bought the domain "chatbot.app", put GPT, Claude and Gemini into one chat window, and used ads to send people to a web checkout page. The product itself has nothing new, yet since September its global ranking has tripled. Below: who it belongs to, how it collects money, how it buys traffic, and what you should take from it and what to avoid.
Someone who thought they were paying in pesos
In Oct 25, an Argentine user gave "Chatbot App - AI Assistant" one star on Google Play: "I want to cancel my subscription. This app doesn't meet my requirements and I don't know how to cancel. I thought the price was in pesos, not dollars."
The same week, the review section from the same country had other comments: "It says I've used up today's quota, but I haven't used it at all, I just opened it", "It said there were free days, but as soon as I activated it, I was charged", "I can only send three or four messages a day." There were also five-star reviews: "Very useful, the answers feel more human than other AIs."
The app has 10.4M installs on Google Play, with about 7k new installs in the last 340 days, roughly 50k a day (Google Play, 11-07). It ranks #69 on the overall Top Grossing chart in Argentina, #78 in the Korea store, #82 in Brazil, and #85 in Mexico. It has charted in 28 countries in the productivity Top Grossing category, ranking #7 in Korea. The website chatbot.app, which shares the app's name, is the subject of this piece.
Who made it
The website's refund policy names the seller as "TapSuite Yazılım Hizmetleri A.S.", a Turkish company. TapSuite is a studio under HubX, a Turkish app group: HubX's careers page lists "Product Lead - TapSuite (İzmir)". In a web snapshot from July, the system prompt built into the chat window still read "You are Superbot, developed by the HubX team". HubX's Android apps together have about 71M installs, and TapSuite has its own regulars on the charts such as Scanner App and CleanX.
There's also a point of confusion: another nearly identical site, chatbotapp.ai, exists online with the same brand name, tagline and model list, and its terms say it is "an independent product of HubX Yazılım Hizmetleri A.Ş." So the same group is running two sites under two legal entities and two domains in parallel. Someone on Reddit posted "I got scammed by ChatbotApp.ai", but the link they shared was chat.chatbot.app, and users themselves can't tell the two sites apart.
The domain's history also shows it isn't a new product: in 2023 chatbot.app was still a parked page, and content appeared only around September 2024, which matches the launch dates of the Android version (2024-11-15) and the iOS version (2024-12-04). My inference is that HubX bought this category keyword domain in the second half of 2024; the purchase price wasn't found.
What drove the rise
| Timeline | Global ranking (Tranco) |
|---|---|
| 2026-08-13 | 141,213 |
| 2026-09-03 | 134,312 |
| 2026-10-08 | 99,175 |

Chrome's real-user statistics are even more direct: in May it was in the global top 100k, dropped from 6 to August to the top 500k, then jumped to the top 50k in September. By country, Vietnam entered the top 10k; France, the Netherlands, Indonesia, India, Brazil, Canada, the Philippines, the US, Mexico and Australia were all in the top 50k.
This is a push after it had already recovered, not a start from zero. Rankings are a 30-day rolling average and lag by a week or two, so the real volume surge began around mid-September. Over the same period, the sister site chatbotapp.ai stayed steady at around 40-50k globally, suggesting the group didn't shift traffic from the old site. Instead, both sites were funded together, and the new budget went mainly to chatbot.app.
How it collects money: the same plan at two prices
Open chatbot.app/pricing: Pro is $19.99 a month, Max is $39.99 a month.
On the ad landing page chatbot.app/landing/pricing, the same Pro reads "1-week trial for $1.99, then $29.99 a month", and Max becomes "from $69.99, coming soon" (11-07 web).
In other words, people arriving from ads see a different price set: first they pay $1.99 to lower the threshold for the first payment, then after a week it automatically converts to a monthly fee 50% higher than the official site's list price. Web checkout bypasses the app stores, so there's no 15–30% commission. The savings and the higher monthly fee let it afford more expensive traffic (inference).
The barrier for free users is kept very low: the homepage is the chat window itself, without login you can send only 1 messages, after which it's a login and paywall. The refund rule is "fewer than 20 messages sent, within 3 days of purchase." The review complaints about "quota used up right after opening" and "charged as soon as activated" are the other side of this funnel. Based on an estimate from the Peekly site's rating distribution, one-star reviews make up about 24%; meanwhile, each update note ends with "if you like it, please leave us a review", and many recent five-star reviews say only "excelente".
The third-party estimator Peekly says it earns roughly $500k a month with about 1M downloads a month, but the same page elsewhere says $116k over the last 30 days. The two figures contradict each other, so treat them only as an order of magnitude.
Where users come from
Almost all of it is bought, plus one good domain:
- Search ads: the site has Google ad click tracking and dedicated ad landing pages; the homepage also has a Microsoft Bing conversion pixel.
- Meta ads: Peekly shows about 100 ads running (unverified).
- New model landing pages: a new page opens for each new model: /gpt5.4, /claude-sonnet-5, /deepseekV4, /nano-banana-pro, /grok4.20 … the sitemap has 40 pages, capturing searches for "new model name + where to use it".
- Store search: the app title is "Chatbot App - AI Assistant" with package name ai.app.ai, claiming the words chatbot and AI assistant.
- The domain itself: chatbot.app is the category keyword, so people who type the URL directly, search "chatbot", or can't tell which is official might land there (inference).
Content channels are effectively absent: the TikTok account @chatbotapp has only 13 followers; nobody has mentioned it on X in the last 90 days; no media outlet has ever covered it.
Its main markets are places like Vietnam, Indonesia, the Philippines, India, Brazil, Mexico and Argentina. ChatGPT Plus is relatively expensive in these countries, local payments are inconvenient, ads are cheap, and users can't easily tell whether this is an official product.
Who it's competing with
This category is already saturated; in Turkey alone several studios run the same playbook:
| Product | Who made it | Scale (Google Play) |
|---|---|---|
| Open Chat - AI bot app | AceTools | 75.1M installs, +2.55M in 7 days |
| Chatbot AI - Search Assistant | Codespace (Turkey) | 49.9M installs |
| Chat & Ask AI | Codeway (Turkey) | 47.2M installs |
| Genie | AppNation (Turkey) | 21M installs, +480k in 7 days |
| Chatbot - AI Smart Assistant | HubX previous generation | 7.16M installs, but only 7k gained in 7 days; budget has already moved elsewhere |
| Chatbot App (this article) | HubX / TapSuite | 10.4M installs, +340k in 7 days |
On the web there are also multi-model aggregators like Poe (about 13k users globally) and Monica (about 15k users), which have their own brands and ecosystems. Above them sits ChatGPT itself. From 2025 to 2026, new wrappers such as Ocean AI, Genora, Zenda and TeraBot kept pouring ads into Meta.
Chatbot App isn't the biggest in this space. What sets it apart is three things: a category keyword domain; a web checkout route alongside the app, using a low-price trial to convert into a high monthly fee; and the same codebase sitting under several companies and brands, all running ads together. All three are about distribution and collecting money, not the product itself.
If it were you
Verdict: don't build the Nth multi-model chat wrapper. The business makes money, but it runs on ad budget, a purchased good domain, and a whole group's media-buying experience, none of which followers have. A dozen-plus players are already spending in the category, and the price war has long started. What's worth taking is its way of collecting money: separate pricing on the ad landing page, and web checkout.
Who it's for: Teams that already have an app earning from subscriptions and paid acquisition (tools, photo editing, learning apps all fit), with a lot of Android users, and that are paying store commission.
Who it's not for: Solo indie devs with no paid acquisition experience and no launch budget; people hoping product differences will win (users in this category can't tell products apart); anyone uncomfortable with charging the card right after activation. Part of this funnel's conversion comes from exactly that.
How to do it:
- Build a web version of your app and a separate ad landing page. Test a "one-week trial at a low price, then monthly subscription" offer on the landing page, priced separately from the store listing.
- Take web payments through Stripe or local payment methods, and test in one or two emerging markets (Vietnam, Mexico, Brazil). Ads are cheap there, and you can measure directly how willing users are to pay on the web.
- If you're building an AI tool, launch a landing page the same day each new model drops, and target search for timeliness.
- Spell out your refund policy and show prices in local currency. That commenter who thought it was pesos: on Stripe, that becomes a chargeback.
How to get users: Google / Bing search ads paired with dedicated landing pages; Meta ads targeting Android users in emerging markets; new-model landing pages for long-tail search. Don't count on TikTok or communities. They're close to zero for this product too.
When to move before others: Bypassing the store with web checkout depends on Apple and Google's policies on external payment links, which are currently loosening. If you get the web funnel running in the first half of 2027, you can capture the commission gap while it lasts.
What would show you're wrong: If by the end of 2026 chatbot.app's global ranking drops back below 100k and Android daily installs fall under 10k, the extra spend didn't pay off. Refunds and chargebacks from the low-trial-to-high-monthly switch in these markets ate the profit. At that point, don't copy this funnel as-is. At minimum, narrow the gap between the trial price and the monthly price.

Channel: web (C1; Google Play developer website matches ai.app.ai) | Research date 2026-11-07
One line
A "multi-model AI chat" subscription product built by TapSuite, a studio under Turkey's HubX group. One account gives you GPT / Claude / Gemini / Grok / DeepSeek. The exact-match domain chatbot.app is both the web chat entry point, the app's homepage, and a paid ad landing page. It's a mature paid-acquisition machine, not a new product. The site's recent ranking climb came from heavier spend from 2026 9 through October, plus a heavier web checkout funnel.
1. What it is and who made it
- Entity: The refund policy names the operator as "TapSuite Yazılım Hizmetleri A.S." (chatbot.app/refund-policy). The terms list Company = TapSuite, based in Turkey (chatbot.app/terms).
- TapSuite is a HubX subsidiary studio: HubX's job board lists "Product Lead - TapSuite (Izmir)" and "QA Engineer - TapSuite" (hubx.co/jobs). The tapsuite.co privacy policy also tells users to "notify HubX" (tapsuite.co/privacy). In 2026-07's web snapshot, the built-in system prompt reads "Your name is Superbot. You are developed by HubX team." (Wayback 20260714 snapshot).
- The data card says chatbotapp.ai is an unrelated brand. That's wrong: chatbotapp.ai's terms state "Chatbot App is an independent product of HubX Yazılım Hizmetleri A.Ş." (chatbotapp.ai/terms). The two sites share nearly the same brand name, tagline, and model list. They are dual brands / dual domains under one group with two legal entities. In a Reddit thread about being "scammed by ChatbotApp.ai," the link the user posted was chat.chatbot.app (r/ConsumerAdvice). Users themselves can't tell the two sites apart.
- Product format:
- The homepage is just a chat box. Anonymous users can send only 1 messages (page config
anonymousChatMessageLimit: 1), after which they hit a login and then a paywall. - A model list of 50+. A landing page goes up each time a new model drops (/gpt5.4, /claude-sonnet-5, /deepseekV4, /nano-banana-pro, /grok4.20, etc.; 40 entries in the sitemap total).
- Pricing: On /pricing, Pro is $19.99/month and Max is $39.99/month. The ad landing page /landing/pricing shows "1-week trial for $1.99, then $29.99/month."
- Refund rule: Refundable if under 20 messages and within 3 days.
- The homepage is just a chat box. Anonymous users can send only 1 messages (page config
- Domain history (Wayback): In 2023 it was a parked page (the title said only "chatbot.app"). Content appeared around 2024-09, in sync with the Android 2024-11-15 and iOS 2024-12-04 launches. It's likely HubX / TapSuite bought this exact-match premium domain in the second half of 2024 (purchase price unverified).
2. Growth data
| Metric | Numbers | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Tranco | 2026-08-13 141,213 → 09-03 134,312 → 10-08 99,175 → 10-22 56,928 → 11-05 44,546 | traffic library |

| Android installs | 10,365,017 (10M+), last 7 days +340,130 (about 49k/day), rating 4.26 / 108k reviews, about 220–250 new ratings per day | googleplay library 2026-11-07 |
| Android top grossing | Top Grossing overall chart: Argentina #69, South Korea #78, Brazil #82, Mexico #85, India #111; Productivity Top Grossing charted in 7,28 countries | googleplay library |
| iOS (US store) | 6,547 ratings, +7 in 324 days (about 40–60 per day); best productivity top grossing rank #51 | appstore library |
| Third-party estimate | Peekly estimates about $500k monthly revenue and about 1M monthly downloads. Elsewhere on the same page it says $116k in the last 30 days, which contradicts itself, so treat it as an order-of-magnitude reference only. Peekly shows about 100 live Meta ads | peekly.app (unverified) |
How to read these numbers
- This isn't a new surge, it's a rebound plus more spend. 2026-05 it was already in the global top 100k, fell to the top 6k from 500 to August, then jumped back to the top 50k in September. Tranco is a 30-day rolling average with a 1–2 week lag, so the real traffic increase behind the October spike probably started in mid-September.
- The sister site chatbotapp.ai stayed steady at 4–50k over the same period (traffic library). That suggests HubX didn't migrate traffic from the old site to the new one. Both sites ran in parallel, and this push mainly boosted chatbot.app.
- Most of the money comes from Android. Android gets about 50k installs a day and charts in Latin American and South Korean top grossing, while the US iOS rating growth is modest. The website does two jobs: it's the entry point for web users, and it runs web checkout ($1.99 trial converting to $29.99/month, bypassing the 30% store commission).
3. Competitors
| Competitors | Platform | Launched | Scale | How it differs |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| chatbotapp.ai (Chatbot App, HubX's main brand) | Web | About 2023 | Tranco 48,115; 4,330 Trustpilot reviews | Another domain and brand from the same group and product. More web-focused; chatbot.app leans toward app plus web checkout |
| Chatbot - AI Smart Assistant (HubX, ai.chat.app, site aiapp.org) | Android | 2024-02 | 7.16M installs, only +7 in 7,146 days | Previous generation from the same group, barely advertised anymore. The TapSuite version took over the paid acquisition budget |
| ChatGPT / chat.com | Big-company features | 2022 | Clear #1 leader | Official single model; Chatbot App's pitch is "one subscription for all models", which captures people searching "chatbot" who can't tell the official apps apart |
| Poe(Quora) | Web / App | 2023 | Tranco 13,331 | Also a multi-model aggregator, but Poe has its own brand and bot ecosystem; Chatbot App leans on exact-match domains and paid acquisition |
| Monica / Merlin | Web / Chrome | 2023 | Tranco 15,057 / 54,541 | Browser extension, sidebar use case; Chatbot App is a standalone chat app plus a mobile app |
| Chat & Ask AI(Codeway) | iOS / Android | 2023-03 | 47.2M Android installs | Also a Turkish studio running paid-acquisition wrappers, bigger and earlier |
| Chatbot AI Assistant - Genie(AppNation) | iOS / Android | 2022-12 | 21M installs, +479k in 7 days | Same playbook, currently bigger on Android |
| Chatbot AI - Search Assistant(Codespace) | Android | 2024-02 | 49.9M installs | Same playbook, stronger in the Turkey store |
| Open Chat - AI bot app(AceTools) | Android | 2023-04 | 75.1M installs, +2.55M in 7 days | Free-with-ads, large scale |
| Nova(ScaleUp)/ Ocean AI / Genora / TeraBot / Zenda | iOS / Android | 2023–2026 | Meta is running 10–200 ads, varying by week | Same-model wrapper running heavy Meta paid acquisition, visible in our Meta ad library |
| chatbot.com(LiveChat) | Web | Old site | Tranco 44,599 | B2B customer-service chatbot; different product with the same name, but it does pull search traffic for the word "chatbot" |
Verdict: this lane is crowded. Several Turkish studios (Codeway, AppNation, Codespace, HubX) are running the same play. Chatbot App isn't the biggest of them; what sets it apart is mainly the domains and the web funnel.
4. Where users come from
| Channel | Evidence | Confirmed? |
|---|---|---|
| Google Search ads | Site config has gclid parameter handling and a GTM container; dedicated /landing and /landing/pricing ad landing pages ($1.99 trial) | Partly confirmed (tracking is present, creatives not seen; our googleads library doesn't track it) |
| Microsoft / Bing Ads | Jina rendering of the homepage caught the bat.bing.com UET conversion pixel (ti=97254962) | Conversion pixel installed, confirmed |
| Meta ads | Peekly shows about 100 live ads; our metaads library doesn't index this advertiser | Not verified |
| Store search / ASO | Package name ai.app.ai; store titles target chatbot and AI assistant keywords; on Android it charts in the productivity Top Grossing lists of 28 countries | Inferred |
| Prompted reviews | Update notes say "If you're enjoying it, we'd really appreciate a quick review"; recent reviews are full of one-word five-stars ("excelente"), while 24% of reviews are one-star (Peekly distribution) | Confirmed |
| New-model landing page SEO | 40 sitemap pages like /gpt5.4, /claude-sonnet-5, /deepseekV4, /nano-banana-pro, capturing searches of "new model name + where to use it" | Confirmed (pages exist, rankings not verified) |
| Exact-match domain | chatbot.app is itself the category keyword; people who type the URL or search "chatbot" land there directly | Inferred |
| TikTok / X / creators | TikTok @chatbotapp has only 13 followers and 156 videos; x-radar shows no mentions in 90 days | Confirmed: content channels are near zero |
| Media / celebrities | No press coverage in search, only aggregator sites and Reddit complaints | Confirmed: none |
5. Why it charted
- Behind it is a mature paid-acquisition group: HubX's Android apps total 71M installs (googleplay library), and TapSuite itself has regulars on the charts like Scanner App and CleanX. One monetization model is reused across several brands, and this time the budget is pushed into Chatbot App.
- Exact-match premium domain: chatbot.app is itself the category keyword, so it wins on paid-ad landing, brand trust, and direct traffic. Most peers use long package names or long domains like xxx-ai-chat.
- Web checkout funnel: the same Pro plan is sold as a $1.99 one-week trial that converts to $29.99/month on the ad landing pages, while /pricing sells only $19.99. Web checkout bypasses store commissions and allows trial-to-subscription conversion, so they can afford pricier traffic. This timing lines up with the multi-country price tier increase in September (inferred).
- Chasing new models: every new model release (GPT-5.x, Claude 5, Gemini 3.x, DeepSeek V4, Nano Banana) gets a landing page and ads the same day, catching people who want to try the new model without paying for several official subscriptions.
- Emerging-market Android: Vietnam, Indonesia, the Philippines, India, Brazil, Mexico and Argentina are the main markets. ChatGPT Plus is relatively expensive there, local payment is inconvenient, paid acquisition is cheap, and users can't tell it's a wrapper.
6. Differentiation
Product-wise there's little real difference: multi-model aggregation, image generation, document chat, all of which Poe, Monica and chatbotapp.ai also offer, running on the same codebase. The real differences are three: exact-match domain, app plus web dual funnel (web runs a cheap trial converting to a monthly subscription), and multiple brands from one group buying traffic in parallel (chatbotapp.ai, aiapp.org and ai.chat.app, chatbot.app and ai.app.ai). These are distribution and monetization differences, and they're why it's growing, not the product itself.
7. Visibility and copycats
- How visible it is: revenue isn't public, there's no press coverage, and nobody discusses it on X. Only estimator sites like Peekly and user complaints on Reddit and Trustpilot. The playbook is widely known in ad-buying circles, but this particular product gets little outside attention.
- Copycats: hard to say who is copying it. This playbook has been the Turkish studios' standard template for 2023 years (Codeway, AppNation, Codespace, HubX themselves), and newer wrappers like Ocean AI, Genora and Zenda, 2025–2026 years old, keep entering on Meta.
8. What others can learn
- Use an exact-match domain for an "official" feel, cut acquisition costs, and keep web and app under one brand;
- Price the ad landing pages separately (cheap trial converting to a high monthly fee), apart from store prices, so web checkout keeps all the revenue;
- Put up a landing page and ads the same day each new model launches, to capture time-sensitive traffic;
- Run multiple legal entities and brands off one codebase in parallel, spreading the risk of account bans, rejections and complaints, and allowing A/B tests on pricing.
9. Still unclear
- No direct evidence for the specific reason for the September growth (which channel got extra budget, or whether the funnel changed); Google and Meta ad creatives aren't captured in our libraries;
- Actual revenue: Peekly's estimates contradict each other;
- The split of revenue between web and app;
- Whether there's a more aggressive approach beyond prompting for reviews;
- When and at what price the 2023-year-old domain was bought.
