28M pages, $0 in revenue: a lesson from CNPJ Go!, a Brazilian CNPJ lookup site
What it is A free Brazilian company registration (CNPJ) lookup site, with a page for each company, behind which sits a B224B sales lead tool starting at R$2 per month.
Why it took off It turned 60M government-published company records into 28M pages that catch Google's long-tail search. The October rebound came as the whole lookup category rose together after Google's spam update, not because of anything CNPJ Go! did specifically.
CHow you could play it Don't compete in Brazil. Take the "open registry data → one page per entity" playbook to countries where local lookup sites are still weak, and from day one sell small things lookup users will actually pay for, like a cheap API or bulk export, not an expensive lead SaaS.
Global rank 290k · 90 days ago 111k
A person who spent 9 years running small-business lending at a Brazilian payments company used the government's free monthly company registry data to publish about 28M company pages in 4 months, at one point reaching a global rank of around 110k. The traffic is real, but the revenue flowing through its Stripe account is still $0. Meanwhile, a similar product charging only R$29 a month already has 38 paying subscribers. This piece explains how the traffic play was built, why the traffic never turned into money, and, if you want to copy it, where to shift and what to sell instead.
A former fintech product manager and a free national company list
In Mar 2026 16, João Vitor Penna Reis registered a small company in São Paulo with a share capital of R$1,000. His website's About page says he led small-business lending products "at one of Brazil's largest payments fintechs for over 9 years" (his Facebook suggests Stone). In Mar 27, CNPJ Go! (cnpjgo.com.br) went live.
The raw material is public. Each month Brazil's federal tax authority (Receita Federal) releases the registration records of over 60M companies as open data bulk files: company name, CNAE industry code, address, operating status, shareholders. The official lookup page has a captcha and requires one-by-one manual searches, so when Brazilians issue invoices, vet suppliers, or check partners, they search a CNPJ number and click through to a third-party lookup site.
In Apr 16, he posted on his blog that CNPJ Go! had passed review by dados.gov.br, Brazil's open government data portal, and been listed as a "data reuse" in the portal's showcase. The portal's note read: "Reúso homologado e disponibilizado na galeria do portal. Obrigado pela iniciativa." (Reuse approved and listed in the portal gallery. Thanks for the initiative.) A website three weeks old now had a government-domain backlink and an "officially recognized" stamp.
How the traffic was built: one page per company
Its sitemap has 557 shards, each with 50k company pages, roughly 28M pages in total, one per CNPJ number (like cnpjgo.com.br/cnpj/65704401000178). Each page is assembled from registry data: basic info, shareholder structure, a template-generated "about this company" paragraph, an explanation of the industry code, and links up to "state → city → industry" listing pages. The "state × industry" listings alone number 12,882 pages. Pages are pre-rendered and cached on Cloudflare for a year, so the marginal cost is close to zero.
On top of these pages, in late April he also published a few "Speedio alternatives", "Casa dos Dados alternatives", "Econodata alternatives" and "Brazil B2B lead-gen tool comparison" posts, aimed squarely at people already comparing options and ready to pay. He also set up profiles on directories like Capterra, G2, Crunchbase and f6s. His robots.txt is interesting too: it lets through the search crawlers from ChatGPT and Perplexity, and blocks training crawlers like Common Crawl, Google-Extended and ByteDance's. He wants to be cited by AI search, but not used as training data.
Beyond that, there is nothing: in 0 days on X, 90 posts mention it. Reddit, TikTok, Product Hunt, and the press have nothing. The Meta and Google ad libraries we can check show no ads it's running (not finding ads doesn't prove it ran none). Nearly all its traffic comes from Google.
Rankings: shot up, fell, climbed back
On the global traffic ranking (Tranco), its trajectory looks like this:
| Date | CNPJ Go! global rank |
|---|---|
| 07-30 | 115k people |
| 08-06 | 111k (peak) |
| 08-20 | 169k people |
| 09-03 | 537k people |
| 09-10 to 10-10 | fell out of the top 1M |
| 10-15 | 977k people |
| 10-28 | 370k people |
| 11-05 | 290k people |
So "climbed from outside the chart to #30k in 290 days" is really a rebound, not new growth. It was higher in early August than it is now.
Two things need to be read together. First, it started falling in mid-August, which lines up with Google's August 18–21 spam update; it started recovering in October, matching another spam update from Sep 24 to Oct 8 (inferred, not confirmed by keyword ranking data). Second, the October rebound wasn't unique to it: cnpj.ws rose from #30k to #310k in 37 days, cnpjaberto.com.br, launched around the same time, rose from #530k to #120k, and informecadastral.com.br rose from #400k to #240k. The long-established cnpj.biz (around #19k) and Econodata (around #38k) barely moved. It looks more like Google reshuffled the entire "CNPJ lookup" category and newer sites were lifted together, not that CNPJ Go! did anything right on its own.
One thing doesn't add up: in Chrome real-user data, it actually moved up from the top 500k to the top 100k in September, the same month it dropped off the global ranking. Possibly 7, and part of the August ranking was bot traffic or DNS-type non-human traffic that later disappeared, while real human users kept growing slowly (inferred, unverified).
Timing-wise it also got a tailwind: from July, Brazil began issuing new CNPJ numbers with a mix of letters and digits, which triggered a wave of "how to look up new CNPJs" searches. That window came from outside; the site didn't create it.
Where the money is: R$224 a month for a lead tool, and no money received so far
Free lookup is just the entry point. The paid part is the Business tier: filter the national company database by 20 criteria such as industry, state, and size, or upload a list of CNPJ numbers; then choose data sources to "enrich" the leads: Google Search is mandatory, while Google Maps, Instagram, websites, and LinkedIn are optional, with each lead-source lookup costing 1 credits. You get back emails, phone numbers, social profiles, reviews, and estimated revenue; AI scores each lead 0 to 100; and it writes ready-to-send opening messages for email, WhatsApp, and phone calls, then drops leads into a built-in CRM pipeline.
Pricing is public (/planos, 11-07):
| Plan | Monthly | Quota |
|---|---|---|
| Starter | R$224 | 1,000 / month, single user |
| Growth | R$537 | 3,000 / month |
| Scale | R$1,347 | 10,000 / month, 5 seats |
Extra seats cost R$97 a month, signup includes 50 free credits, and no card is required. Compared with the established sales-intelligence player Speedio (from R$719 to 1,149, demo required), it's cheaper, transparent, and self-serve. The conversion path is well designed.
The problem: it connected Stripe to TrustMRR (a public leaderboard that verifies revenue in real time through payment APIs). Its page as of Nov 7 shows historical revenue of $0 and 0 active online subscriptions. The "about $6,000 a month" figure online is an estimate from a traffic model and doesn't match the payment data. It's possible it collects money through Brazilian Pix or another payment account rather than this Stripe account (unverified), but what's publicly visible is zero.
Same traffic, someone else got paid
The control group is right next to it. CNPJ Aberto (cnpjaberto.com.br) launched 2026 in April, a month after it, and does almost the same thing: open data, one page per company, free lookups. The difference is what it sells: an API for developers, an MCP interface for AI agents, a data mirror on Hugging Face, and a Pro tier from R$29 per month. On TrustMRR, 11-07 it earns $220,38 in online subscriptions over the last 30 days; its global rank is 122k, also higher than CNPJ Go!.
$220 a month isn't big money, but it shows something: most people searching CNPJ numbers are accountants, finance staff, and everyday people issuing invoices, plus developers writing code, not sales managers who'll pay R$224 a month for B2B sales leads. Selling the searchers a small product for a few dozen reais (an API, bulk export, no captcha) works far better than pushing them into a SaaS built for sales teams.
Who it's competing with
The category in Brazil is already crowded:
- Established free lookup sites: cnpj.biz (around #19k globally, with more than ten times its traffic), Casa dos Dados (around #61k), CNPJá (around #67k, API-oriented), cnpj.ws (around #37k, climbing fastest this round).
- Free lookups bolted on by big players: Jusbrasil (around #1,300), Serasa (around #16k), where the free lookup is just a traffic funnel.
- Expensive sales intelligence: Speedio and Econodata, where you request a quote and talk to sales.
- A batch that showed up in 2026: LeadCNPJ, LeadJet, TAMZ, Dados Premium, ProspecData, Kaptto, prospectei... All position themselves as "CNPJ + AI enrichment + WhatsApp scripts," all write "alternative to Speedio" posts, and most don't even make the global top 1M.
Compared with this batch, CNPJ Go! has almost no differentiation. Its lead is that it started SEO earlier and covered more ground, plus the government endorsement. No press has written about it, and no one is copying it. Others simply thought of the same thing at the same time.
If it were you
One-line verdict: Don't go after this one in Brazil. What's worth taking is the playbook: "government-published company registry data → one page per entity → pre-rendering + CDN" can push a new domain into the 4k global rank range within 100 months. If you do it, pick a country that hasn't been saturated yet, and from day one sell the small things lookup users actually want to pay for.
Who it suits: people who can do programmatic SEO, handle tens of millions of rows of data, and write page templates that don't read like machine translation, roughly 1 to 2 people. Ideally you speak the language of a country that has opened its company registry but whose local lookup sites are still weak (Mexico, Colombia, Chile, Peru, Indonesia, and similar). First, search "company number + lookup" in that country and see how old and clunky the top three results are.
Who it doesn't suit: anyone planning another CNPJ lookup site or "CNPJ + AI leads" SaaS in Brazil (a dozen new and old players are already competing, and one Google update can knock you off the chart); anyone aiming at markets like UK Companies House or the US, which were saturated long ago; anyone who assumes traffic equals revenue and plans to sell R$200-level sales tools right away.
How to build it: first confirm that the company registry data can legally be used commercially in the target country and how often it gets updated. One page per entity, with things people can use right away on each page (status, address, shareholders, other companies in the same city and industry). Build list pages by state, city, and industry, and link them to each other. Prerender and serve from a CDN. Start charging with low-priced options: API by call or by month (benchmark: CNPJ Aberto's R$29 starting price), bulk export of lists, and bulk verification for accountants and finance teams. Put ads on the pages as a fallback. 2B lead enrichment only once a sales team actually asks for it.
How to get customers: Long-tail Google is the whole game. The first thing after launch: register "data reuse" on the country's government open-data portal. You get an official endorsement and backlinks for almost nothing. Then write "X alternative" and "how to look up number X" articles to catch high-intent search. List on directories (Capterra, G2). Allow AI search crawlers in robots. Don't count on social media: CNPJ Go! is 0 on X, Reddit and TikTok, yet still gets traffic anyway.
When is "before": There's no hard deadline. This is a "the earlier, the better; whoever fills the space first holds it" business. But every Google spam update reshuffles the field, and the thinner your template pages, the easier they get knocked down next time. Make each page's unique content thick before launch.
Signs you're reading this wrong: ① CNPJ Go!'s revenue on TrustMRR turns positive and keeps climbing over the next two or three months. That would mean the "free lookup → high-priced lead tool" path works, just slowly, and its full playbook is worth copying. ② The new Brazilian sites in this batch all drop out of the top 1M after the next Google update. That would mean these programmatic pages are being treated as spam, and it's just as dangerous in any other country. ③ In your chosen country, searches for "company registration number lookup" already show three or more fully built, fast sites up front. That market is already crowded.

Channel: web (pool C1, matched on TrustMRR) | Research date: 2026-11-07
One line
A Brazilian "free CNPJ lookup site + B2B lead enrichment SaaS." It takes the company registration data that Receita Federal (Brazil's federal tax authority) publishes monthly and generates a /cnpj/<number> page for each company, drawing traffic from long-tail Google searches. The paid tier is: import a CNPJ → enrich contact info from Google/Maps/Instagram/websites/LinkedIn → AI scoring plus WhatsApp/email pitch writing → built-in CRM, starting at R$224/month.
Verdict
Its traffic comes from programmatic SEO: 2026-03 registered, and within 4 months it had built about 28M CNPJ pages (557 shards in the sitemap index × 50k entries each), plus about 13k "state × CNAE" list pages and a batch of "alternative to Speedio / Casa dos Dados / Econodata" blog posts. By late July, Tranco had it at 115k. From 8 to September it fell out of the top 1M, then climbed back from mid-October (11-05 at 290k). This wave rose at the same time as cnpj.ws, cnpjaberto.com.br and informecadastral.com.br. It looks more like the whole "CNPJ lookup" category was reshuffled after Google's September spam update (09-24 to 10-08), not like the site did anything new itself. The real problem is that traffic isn't turning into money. TrustMRR (direct Stripe connection) shows 30 days of revenue at $0, 0 subscriptions, and lifetime revenue of $0. The "about $6k/month" cited in the recall card is a model estimate from MRRTrack and shouldn't be taken at face value.

| 11-05 | 289,669 | 36,564 | 122,015 | 60,971 | 66,717 |
- The "not in top 1M 30 days ago → 290k (×3.5)" on the recall card is really a recovery: 90 days ago (08-06) it was at 111k, higher than it is now.
- CrUX Brazil (real Chrome users): from 2026-05 to 08 it stayed at "top 500k," and 2026-09 it moved into the "top 100k" bucket. It isn't in the global chart. Note that September is exactly when it dropped off Tranco, so the two don't line up. A possible explanation: part of its high Tranco position from 7 to August was non-browser traffic such as DNS or crawler traffic (Tranco blends in data like Cloudflare Radar and Umbrella), which later disappeared. Real users may have been growing the whole time (not verified).
- In the same window, sites doing the same thing rose too: cnpj.ws went from 310k to 37k in 30 days, cnpjaberto from 530k to 120k, and informecadastral from 400k to 240k. Established players cnpj.biz (around 19k) and econodata (around 38k) barely moved.
Revenue (indie library, source TrustMRR, synced 2026-11-07)
- Slug cnpj-go, Stripe connected, founded 2026-03-27. rev_30d = 0, mrr = 0, subscriptions = 0, rev_all = 0. No monthly revenue history is recorded. domain_rating 1.
- In other words, it connected Stripe to TrustMRR itself, and Stripe shows not a single cent. The recall card's "MRRTrack estimates about $6,120/month" comes from a traffic model and doesn't match payment data. Go with TrustMRR.
- The same library has a similar one: CNPJ Aberto (cnpjaberto.com.br, founded 2026-04-26) with MRR of $210 and 37 subscriptions.
Ads
- The recall card's ads field is empty. Neither the Meta nor the Google ad library matched any active ads. The ad libraries only cover the list we track, so not finding ads doesn't mean there are none.
2. The product
- Free tier: unlimited CNPJ lookups with no signup (company name, CNAE, address, operating status, shareholder structure QSA, whether it's Simples/MEI). Each CNPJ gets a page with a template-generated "about this company" section and a CNAE explanation, linked internally (state → city → CNAE list). cnpjgo.com.br/cnpj/65704401000178
- Business tier: filter the RFB database by 20 criteria such as CNAE, state and company size, or upload a CSV. Enrichment is priced by "number of leads × number of data sources = credits used." Google Search is required, while Maps, Instagram, websites and LinkedIn are optional. After enrichment, AI gives each lead a 0–100 score and estimates revenue, and writes one-click opening messages for email, WhatsApp, phone and LinkedIn. Includes grouping and a CRM pipeline. Homepage
- Pricing (/planos, 2026-11-07): Starter R$224/month (1,000 credits, 2,000 leads, single user), Growth R$537/month (3,000 credits), Scale R$1,347/month (10,000 credits, 5 seats). Extra seats R$97/month. New signups get 50 free credits with no card required. Credit packs are sold separately. The page's meta still shows the old price "from R$249/month."
- Trust signals: data reuse registered and approved on Brazil's open-data portal dados.gov.br (reuso/128). The website also has a dedicated blog post on it (2026-04-16).
- Founder: João Vitor Penna Reis, who says he spent more than 9 years building SME credit products at a leading Brazilian payments fintech (his Facebook lists Stone); the company is JOAO VITOR PENNA REIS TECNOLOGIA LTDA (trading name PM HERO), registered 2026-03-16 in São Paulo with registered capital of R$1,000. sobre
- Tech: Next.js + Supabase/PostgreSQL + Cloudflare + Stripe + Resend (self-reported on TrustMRR). robots.txt allows GPTBot, PerplexityBot and OAI-SearchBot, and blocks training crawlers such as CCBot, Google-Extended and Bytespider. It wants to be cited by AI search but not used for training.
3. Competitors
| Name | Form | Scale (Tranco 11-05 / CrUX Brazil September) | How it differs from CNPJ Go! |
|---|---|---|---|
| CNPJ.biz | Web. Established free lookup plus paid leads. | 19,215 / top 1k | Top free-lookup site with more than ten times CNPJ Go!'s traffic. Also sells leads. |

| CNPJ.ws | API | 36,564 (up about 8× in 30 days) | Mainly API; this run has been the steepest climb |
| Econodata | Web, sales intelligence | 38,361 / top 5k | Need to request a quote and go through sales; lots of data but expensive |
| Speedio | Web SaaS | Not in the top 1M / top 500k | From R$719–1,149/month, demo by request; 117 data sources |
| CNPJ Aberto | Web, from 2026-04 | 122,015 (530k, 30 days ago) | Indie-dev products from the same period, with MCP / API / Hugging Face data mirrors, already at $210 MRR (TrustMRR) |
| informecadastral.com.br | Web, free lookup | 243,528 | Pure lookup, monetized with ads |
| LeadCNPJ, LeadJet, TAMZ, Dados Premium, ProspecData, Kaptto, buscadorcnpj, prospectei, and others | Web, a batch of "CNPJ + AI enrichment + WhatsApp" SaaS products over the past 2026 year | None are in Tranco top 1M | Nearly identical positioning, all publishing "alternativa ao Speedio / Econodata" comparison pages |
| Serasa Experian, Jusbrasil, Contabilizei | Free lookups bundled with big companies and platforms | Serasa 15,870, Jusbrasil 1,276 | The free lookup is just their traffic funnel |
| Official Receita Federal / Redesim lookup | Government | — | Has CAPTCHAs and requires manual steps, which is the whole reason third-party sites exist |
Verdict: the category is extremely crowded, and over the past 2026 year a wave of near-identical AI-assisted clones has been crowding in (based on Brave Search results for "prospecção b2b cnpj IA" and "alternativa speedio"). CNPJ Go!'s traffic ranks high among the newer players (most new entrants don't even make the top 1M), but it's still an order of magnitude behind the established lookup sites.
4. Growth tactics
- Programmatic SEO (confirmed): sitemap-index.xml lists 557 cnpj shards, each with 50k entries, roughly 28M CNPJ pages; there are also list pages by uf, cnae, situacao, and "state × CNAE" (12,882 entries), plus content sitemaps with "empresas-<state>" pages for 27 states and informational articles (o-que-e-cnpj, como-consultar-cnpj, cnpj-inapto…). With
s-maxage=31536000caching at the server and served through Cloudflare, the pages are all prerendered. - Competitor comparison / alternative content (confirmed): alternativa-speedio (04-24), alternativa-casa-dos-dados (04-21), alternativa-econodata, comparativo-ferramentas-prospeccao-b2b-brasil (04-30), capturing "X alternatives" searches with buying intent.
- Directories and backlinks (confirmed): official reuse registration on dados.gov.br, Capterra (2026-04-17), G2, Crunchbase, f6s, and TrustMRR all have listings, giving external links and an "officially recognized" trust signal.
- Aimed at AI search (intent confirmed, effect unknown): robots.txt explicitly allows ChatGPT and Perplexity search crawlers.
- Google algorithm events (speculative): 2026-08-18~21 saw a Google spam update, 08-26 a core update (per seoforge; Google's status page lists only two core updates, March and May); 09-24~10-08 another spam update. CNPJ Go! started falling in mid-August and recovering in mid-October, and several peers in the category moved in sync, so the timing lines up, but we have no keyword ranking data to confirm it.
- Not found: X (x-radar searched 90 days, 0 posts), Reddit, TikTok, media, Product Hunt and HN have no mentions of it; it's not in the ad libraries either.
5. Why it got traffic (traffic only)
- Demand for searching CNPJ numbers is large and ongoing: Brazil has 60M+ CNPJs, and people look up the number when issuing invoices, checking suppliers, or doing due diligence; official lookups have CAPTCHAs, so third-party sites naturally capture this traffic.
- The data is free, a full monthly dump is available, and the marginal cost of 28M pages is nearly zero; Next.js prerendering plus Cloudflare caching handles the load.
- Timing: starting in 2026-07, Brazil began issuing alphanumeric CNPJs (Receita Federal IN 2.229/2024,07-31 took effect), which created a wave of searches about "how to look up the new-format CNPJ" and long-tail pages for newly registered companies; September's Google spam update reshuffled category rankings again. It rode the timing rather than creating it.
- On the product side: the free lookup brings traffic, the comparison articles catch people with buying intent, and the paid tier has transparent pricing and self-serve signup (R$224 versus Speedio's R$719–1,149, which also requires a demo). The conversion path is well designed, but so far it hasn't earned money (TrustMRR $0).
6. Differentiation
- Compared with the established lookup sites (cnpj.biz, Casa dos Dados): it adds a layer of "enrichment + AI scoring + AI scripts + CRM" and lets you choose data sources and pay per source.
- Compared with the big sales-intelligence players (Speedio, Econodata): their prices are 1/3 to 1/5 times higher, while this one publishes prices, allows self-serve signup, and offers a free trial.
- Compared with this batch from 2026 years ago (LeadCNPJ, LeadJet, TAMZ…), there is almost no difference: feature lists, comparison article formats, and price ranges look very similar. Its edge is only that it started SEO early and covered it thoroughly (starting in March, 28M pages), plus endorsement from the dados.gov.br registry.
- It got traction because of SEO scale and timing, not because of any differentiation in enrichment or AI: the traffic lands on the free lookup pages, and the paid tier is still at $0.
7. How many people know about it now
- Almost nobody: no press coverage, 0 posts on X, nothing on Reddit; the public revenue on TrustMRR is $0; only sites like MRRTrack that estimate revenue from traffic put it at about $6k/month (estimate).
- Plenty of copycats, though none of them are copying it specifically: over the past 2026 year a dozen-plus indie products doing "public CNPJ data + programmatic SEO + AI enrichment" have appeared (CNPJ Aberto, LeadCNPJ, LeadJet, TAMZ, Dados Premium, prospectei, consultacnpjfacil, and more). Same idea, emerging in parallel. There's no evidence any of them were built by following CNPJ Go!.
8. What to borrow
- The recipe of "government open registry data → one page per entity → prerendering + CDN" can reach Tranco ranks around 100k within 4 months, and it can be copied to other countries with open company registry data (Mexico, Colombia, Indonesia, and the UK's Companies House, which are already crowded).
- Registering for reuse on the government open-data portal costs almost nothing and gets you an "officially recognized" endorsement and backlinks.
- Write "X alternative" comparison pages to catch searches with buying intent.
- The cautionary lesson: people who run lookup searches and people willing to pay R$224 a month for B2B leads are two different groups; free-lookup users are mostly accountants, finance staff, and ordinary individuals with low commercial intent. Traffic alone isn't enough. You need another path that actually brings in money (such as ads, per-call API sales, or selling data exports).
9. Still unclear
- In September the site dropped out of Tranco's top 1M, yet its CrUX rank in Brazil moved up. The cause is unclear (DNS or crawler traffic? recovery after the Google penalty?).
- No keyword or ranking data is available, so the impact of the Google updates is speculative.
- TrustMRR revenue is $0: either it really hasn't collected money, or payments go through a different account than this Stripe one (for example, local Brazilian Pix / Asaas). Unverified.
- Mobile app: none found, so the traffic is presumably all on the web.
