82M company pages, 250M AI crawler visits: a site that climbed to global rank 130k while getting almost no real human visitors

What it is: A site that gives AI-visibility scores to the websites of 82M companies worldwide. Lookups are free, and full company data is sold per record.

Why it took off: It published 82M brand pages. AI crawlers read them 70M times in August alone, pushing its global ranking into the top 130k. Real human traffic is almost nonexistent.

CHow you could follow it: Don't copy the whole AEO scoring model. Borrow the playbook: pre-build pages for every business in one vertical, score them, publish original research from your own crawler logs, and sell the low-score list as leads to agencies one record at a time. Validate that someone will pay before you scale.

Grade C: The ranking is driven by crawlers, not by visible users or revenue. Free AEO checks are already offered by HubSpot, Semrush, and Ahrefs, and the paid market has competitors that have raised tens of millions. What's worth learning is the tactic of programmatic pages fed to AI crawlers and turning crawler logs into data. Almost no one knows about it yet

Global rank 129k · 90 days ago, top 1M+

On 2026 May 5, New York serial founder Gregory Pellitteri posted "Show HN: Is your brand invisible to AI? We built a free visibility score" on Hacker News. It got 1 points and 0 comments. The next day it went up on Product Hunt, collected 2 votes and ranked #250 for the day. Half a year later, his engagemii.com had scored 82.1M websites, and its global rank had climbed from well beyond the millionth place before August to 129k (Tranco, 11-05). But what pushed it up was mainly not people. It was crawlers from ChatGPT, Claude and Meta. This is a case about programmatic pages fed to AI crawlers: rankings can be driven up this way, but users and money don't follow.

A Show HN nobody clicked

The engagemii domain had been live for 2024 years. Back then it was an "AI brand discovery / conversational sales" platform, and its subdomains still show a founder-era price of "top 250 Shopify brands $250/year". In May 2026 it pivoted to AEO (answer engine optimization, getting brands mentioned in AI answers like ChatGPT). The first step was that unremarkable Show HN: enter your URL and get a free "AI visibility" score of 0–10.

Later in June he posted two data pieces on HN, "AI bots cite dentists more than Fortune 500 companies" and "two-thirds of websites are invisible to AI bots," each scoring 3 points. I couldn't find a single post on X mentioning it in the past half year, and no media covered it. From a human-channel perspective, it was nearly invisible.

What it does: scoring the whole world first

Other AEO tools work like this: you enter a brand, they ask ChatGPT, and they tell you how often you were mentioned. Engagemii works the other way around: it doesn't wait for you to show up. It scores every company first.

  • The homepage's 11-07 text reads: tracking 82,129,732 websites, re-scoring about 170k companies daily, of which 17.4M verified US companies.
  • Each company gets a public brand page. The names scrolling across the homepage include Southern Pines Bathtubs (bathtubs, score 3.6), Shuman's Auto Clinic (auto repair, score 3.9), Emy Ray Bakes (bakery, score 3.8), and Fat Cat Pottery (pottery, score 4.1). Most are small businesses, and their scores are generally failing.
  • The scores are mostly static assessments: how readable the website is for AI (6 on-site sub-scores), plus off-site signals like backlinks, news, and social media (6 signals). It doesn't actually query the models. Only one "Live" panel on the homepage asks ChatGPT "what's the best to buy" every 30 minutes and shows who it recommends.
  • The free side also includes: a "fix pack" generated for your own site (9 files such as llms.txt and structured data), a Chrome extension, a WordPress plugin (launched in July, with 583 total downloads on wordpress.org), and an MCP server.

How the money is meant to come in: selling data per record

It doesn't rely mainly on subscriptions. It sells access to this list of 82M records. Pricing on the data page (11-07):

OptionPricing
Full records (77 fields), under 5,000 records¢10 per record
Full records, from 5,000 records up¢4 per record
Only the AI-visibility score column¢3.5 per record (drops to 40% from 5,000 records up)
Over 10M records, for resaleNegotiable
Free account20 API lookups per month
Network plan (invite partners to list each other)$9.99 / month

The buyers they have in mind are marketing agencies ("every low score is a lead you can sell a fix to"), data companies, and investors. It looks more like BuiltWith or ZoomInfo, with an added AEO score. Nobody outside can see whether anyone has actually bought, or how much they've sold: no disclosed revenue, no customer case studies, no reviews.

Why the rank climbed: the readers are crawlers

Engagemii itself published a research piece in September, "250.1 million AI crawler reads." Checking against each company's published IP ranges, it counted how often AI crawlers read its site:

MonthAI crawler reads (self-reported)
2026-05 (from 22)2M
2026-065M
2026-0713.7M
2026-0870M
2026-09 (through day 19)46.5M

Compare that with its global Tranco rank: in Aug 20 it first entered the top 1M (868k), Aug 27 430k, Sep 10 205k; it fell back to 286k in early October, climbed again in mid-October, and reached its best of 121k in Nov 1. Crawler reads rose 5x in August, the same late-August stretch when the rank jumped into the list; in September ClaudeBot reads rose about 5x and Applebot about 10x, and the rank climbed again in a second wave. The timing lines up almost exactly.

As of 11-07, its homepage running total is 252M reads: Meta 98.1M, Claude 62.9M, Apple 26.9M, GPTBot 26.1M, Perplexity 14.1M. Google's regular search crawler accounts for only 334k.

Three further signs that these rankings are not driven by people:

  • No real Chrome users show up for it. In Google's CrUX data, which buckets websites by actual Chrome users, engagemii.com is absent from the global top 8M in both 1 and September. For comparison, peec.ai, a similar AEO tool with nearly the same rank (Tranco 130k), did make that bucket in September.
  • The pages are written for crawlers. An ordinary scraper opening one of its brand pages hits a Cloudflare human check, while AI crawlers are let through by IP range.
  • Google has barely indexed it. 330k Googlebot visits across 82M pages suggest these pages bring little traffic from Google Search.

Tranco is a blend of several data sources, and several of them measure DNS and network-level requests. Heavy crawler traffic can push a site's rank up (inference; which source contributed most was not verified). The early-October dip and the mid-October rebound most likely reflect crawlers reading in batches (inference).

It turned being crawled into the selling point

This is the cleverest part. 82M pages attract AI crawlers → the crawler logs become data only it has ("which AI is reading whom") → that data is both sold per record (the "AI crawler reads" column at 2¢ per record) and written up as research pieces for HN, Medium, and LinkedIn ("Meta accounts for 39% of all AI reads", "ClaudeBot reads 2.4x as much as GPTBot"). More pages bring more crawlers, the data becomes more exclusive, and the whole thing promotes itself.

The problem is that no people are in this loop. It proves AI crawlers read programmatic pages in volume. It does not prove anyone signed up or paid because of it.

Searchable, AITracking.io, Geoly, Trakkr, and othersSmallSame pitch: "check whether ChatGPT recommends you"
BuiltWith / ZoomInfo / CrunchbaseBigSells company profile data. Engagemii is effectively that plus an AEO score, and cheaper.

AEO is one of the hottest marketing-tech categories of 2026, and "check for free whether you're invisible in AI" is a hook big vendors already give away for free. Engagemii's only real difference is "pre-score every company, with one public page each." That is exactly why it ranks, not why users show up.

If it were you

Rating C: worth learning from, not worth chasing. What it produced is rankings, not a business: no visible human users, no visible revenue. Copy it and you will most likely end up with a site that crawlers read diligently and nobody pays for. The "free AEO check" entry point is already given away free by HubSpot, Semrush, and Ahrefs, while Profound and Peec have money and users.

Who it suits: a small team that already has a large list (every business in an industry, every app, every open-source project) and an existing channel to sell the data to agencies or data companies. Or someone wanting to build a new data source out of "AI crawler reads."

Who it doesn't suit: anyone aiming for Google organic traffic from programmatic pages (its Googlebot reads are only 330k), or anyone wanting to build an AEO subscription SaaS, a space where companies raising hundreds of millions of dollars already compete.

How to do it: don't copy "give every company in the world an AEO score." Borrow three things instead: ① pre-build and score every entity in one vertical (e.g., every dental clinic in one country, every law firm in one city), with pages written for humans that can get indexed by Google, not just for crawlers; ② turn your own site's crawler logs into content and data, since that's something only you have, and write it up as "which AI reads which industry," which travels better than generic marketing copy; ③ package the low-score lists as sales leads for agencies, sold per record. Validate with three to five paying agencies first, then scale.

How to get users: HN, Product Hunt, the WordPress plugin, and the Chrome extension it tried brought almost no people. Don't count on launch platforms. A more realistic route is selling leads directly to marketing agencies in the vertical, and letting the businesses being scored "claim" their pages (it has this mechanism, usage unknown).

Timing: no rush. If you do want this "pre-built pages + crawler logs" setup, do it before model providers start downgrading programmatic pages like these. There are no public signs of that yet.

What would show I got this wrong: ① Engagemii discloses paying customers or revenue, or raises funding, which would mean someone is buying per-record AEO data and it's worth a second look; ② engagemii.com appears in Chrome's real-user top 1M bucket, meaning real people are arriving; ③ the reverse: if its rank falls back beyond the million mark once AI crawler reads slow down, that confirms the ranking was crawler-driven.

One line for everyone building products: AI crawlers read every page you spread out, so they can push your global rank up. To see whether a site has really taken off, look at real users and payments, not rank alone.

Engagemii (engagemii.com) research report

Recall: Tranco 30 days 266,305 → 128,782 (×2.1), not in the top 1M 90 days ago. Data card pool C1 (only a Show HN in the HN library matching 1 points). Research date 2026-11-07.

Bottom line

Engagemii is an "AI visibility index" built by a solo founder: it automatically scores 82M company websites on a 0–10 scale, creates a programmatic brand page for each, and sells the full dataset by record. Its Tranco climb was largely not driven by people; it came from AI crawlers reading its 82M pages. Its own published AI crawler read count was 70M in August alone, which lines up exactly with its first Tranco entry in late August and its climb to 120k by October 9. CrUX (real Chrome users) doesn't include it, and both its HN and Product Hunt launches got almost no response. So this rank comes from a "programmatic pages feeding AI crawlers" engine, not from users.

What it is

  • Official site: "The world's largest AI visibility index", with 82,129,732 websites scored and 74–77 fields per record (overall AEO score, 6 on-site sub-scores, 6 off-site authority signals, industry, tech stack, payment processors, address, social profiles, AI crawler read counts), with about 172k companies rescored daily; verified 17,425,027 US businesses and 3,537,184 overseas (https://engagemii.com/aeo/data, read 2026-11-07).
  • Free tier: any company can look up its score, claim its brand page, download a "free fix kit" (9 files generated from its own site, such as llms.txt and schema), track AI crawlers, and watch 3 companies. There is also a Chrome extension, a WordPress plugin (2026-07-02 listed, 583 total downloads per the wordpress.org API), an MCP server, a Live terminal (showing which brand ChatGPT ranks first when asked "what to buy" every 30 minutes), and a Network Map (extracting partner relationships from annual reports of 6,400 US-listed companies, written to both companies' pages after confirmation).
  • Paid tier: data sold per record. Single fields start at 3.5¢ per record (AI visibility score), full fields are 10¢ per record (under 5,000 records), 4¢ per record (5,000 records and up), and wholesale or resale above 10M records is negotiated. Free accounts get 20 API queries per month. The Network plan is $9.99/month (unlimited partner invites). Brand Plus (weekly AI answer tracking plus a monthly report, price behind login). Agency accounts. Snowflake Marketplace previously listed "B2B Brand Database with AI Search Scores 6.7M" (the link is now 404). An earlier version sold a $29 audit report (per the Sell With Boost listing).
  • Company: Engagemii, LLC (Delaware registered agent address). Founder Gregory Pellitteri (New York, serial founder, previously built Cached, a web 3 consumer data platform) (https://engagemii.com/about). No other team members visible.

Why it took off

  1. The main traffic source is AI crawlers, not people. Evidence chain:
    • Timing matches: AI reads surged to 70M/month in August (roughly 200 tens of thousands per day). Tranco (30-day rolling average, lagging by 1–2 weeks) first entered the list in August 20 and climbed to 200k within 3 weeks. In September ClaudeBot and Applebot doubled again, and in October Tranco had a second climb.
    • CrUX's global top 1M doesn't include it (traffic library crux_domain, none from 8 through September). For comparison, peec.ai, with a similar Tranco rank (130,395), made the CrUX top 1M tier in September. Real products at the same rank level have real Chrome visits; this one doesn't.
    • Human channels are nearly empty: across three HN posts, the top score was 3 points; PH got 2 votes; X local corpus shows 0 mentions in 180 days (x-radar); WordPress plugin total downloads are 583; the Chrome extension's user count isn't even captured in our library (detail page unavailable).
    • Brand pages sit behind Cloudflare bot checks for ordinary fetches (Jina reading /aeo/brands/* gets blocked), but AI crawlers from official IP ranges are let through. The pages were written for crawlers to read in the first place. Googlebot reads only 334k times, which suggests these pages are barely indexed in Google organic search, so SEO referrals are limited too.
    • Of Tranco's five sources, Cloudflare Radar, Umbrella, and Farsight are all DNS / network-layer signals, and large-scale crawler requests can push rank up through them. This is exactly the case our data card flags: "not in CrUX, the climb may come from DNS / API traffic." (Which source contributes most is unverified.)
  2. It makes being crawled by AI itself the selling point. Crawler read counts are written into every record (the "AI crawler reads" field at 2¢ per record) and turned into research reports ("Who is reading the web: Meta accounts for 39%") to post on HN, Medium, and LinkedIn. In other words: programmatic pages attract crawlers → crawler logs become exclusive data → exclusive data becomes the selling point and content, a self-reinforcing loop.
  3. Timing: 2026 is the hottest marketing-tech category right now for AEO / GEO. Profound raised a $96M Series C at a $1B valuation (2026-02), then a $180M Series D at a $1.8B valuation (2026-09) (TechCrunch / Bloomberg, 2026-09-15). Peec AI claims ARR above $20M (per rankry.ai's roundup, 2026-11 2026-11-05). Brand owners are genuinely anxious about "am I being mentioned in ChatGPT?", and a free check-your-score tool is a ready-made hook.
  4. Why would anyone stay or pay: no evidence. No public revenue, no customer case studies, no reviews. Selling data by record to agencies, data companies, and investors is an idea; whether it closes is unknown.

Differentiation

Peers (Profound, Peec, Otterly, Semrush / Ahrefs free checkers, HubSpot AI Search Grader) work by "you enter a brand → we ask ChatGPT and other models → we tell you how often it's mentioned," with subscriptions priced per brand. Engagemii does the reverse:

  • It scores the whole world first (82M companies, mostly small businesses: bakeries, law firms, auto repair), with one public page each. Its scores are mainly static assessments of on-site readability plus off-site authority signals, not actually asking models (only the homepage Live board queries ChatGPT every 30 minutes as a sample).
  • Sells data, not SaaS: priced per record, delivered to S3 / Snowflake / CRM. Target buyers are data companies, agencies ("every low score is a potential client for a fix service"), and investors. It looks more like BuiltWith / ZoomInfo with an added AEO field.
  • Crawler logs as exclusive data: it is itself one of the sites most heavily crawled by AI, so it owns first-party data on "who AI is reading."

This differentiation is why the Tranco rank climbed (82M pages × AI crawlers), but it is not why users showed up. So far there's no sign that real users have arrived.

How many people have seen it

Almost nobody knows about it yet. No public revenue, 0 mentions on X, zero reaction to HN / PH launches, no press coverage. The only "buzz" is its Tranco rank, which is mostly crawlers. We also haven't seen copycats doing this exact thing: public AEO score pages for every company.

What others can borrow

  • "Pre-score every entity + one public page per entity" is classic programmatic SEO, but the AI era changed the reader: the target audience is AI crawlers, and the payoff is being cited and trained on by models, plus a dataset only the operator has: its crawler logs.
  • Turning crawler logs into a data product and content (stats like "Meta accounts for 39% of AI reads").
  • Selling data by field / by record, packaging low-scoring company lists as sales leads for agencies.
  • But note: Tranco rank can be inflated by crawlers, which doesn't mean there are users. For sites like this, look at human metrics separately (CrUX, signups, payments).

Still unclear

  • Whether it has any real paying customers or revenue (completely undisclosed).
  • The crawler-vs-human split in Tranco growth; which of the five sources contributes most.
  • "250M AI reads" is self-reported; whether it counts duplicates or retries of the same page can't be verified.
  • Validity of the score: it claims "brands ChatGPT recommends score about 3/4 or higher 6", with no third-party verification.
  • Why traffic dipped in early October and rose again mid-October (guess: crawler batches, unverified).
  • Whether mass-publishing brand pages that AI crawlers read but humans need to verify will eventually get downweighted by model providers as low-quality content is unknown.
