# The wishlist app every American teen girl has: Giftful doubled this round, half of it from Christmas

**What it is** A free cross-store wishlist: save items from any online store into a list, send the link to family, and they can view, claim and buy without installing an app.

**Why it took off** This wave is mostly Christmas season, when the whole wishlist category doubled together. The underlying reason is that it turned wishlists into a social and taste-signaling tool for teen girls, who post their lists on TikTok on their own and then send the links to the whole family.

**C** **How you could play it** Don't build another wishlist for the English market. If you have a channel in a country or community that GoWish and Giftful don't yet own, copy its zero-friction share links and social discovery, and rely on users posting their lists to grow, aiming at the 2027 back-to-school and birthday seasons.

Grade C: the product mechanics are worth studying, but the English market already has the well-funded GoWish and the reputation-holding Giftful, a string of copycats, and wide media coverage. GoWish already covers 12 languages in smaller markets too, leaving little room for followers. Public / widely discussed

Global rank 64k · 90 days ago 152k

Giftful is a cross-store wishlist built by an Atlanta couple in 2019, free forever, earning through affiliate commissions on product links. Its global traffic rank more than doubled in a month, but similar sites nearly all doubled at the same time, and this wave is mostly Christmas season. What's really worth studying is how it became the default tool among American teenage girls with barely any ad spend. The category already has a funded leader and a string of copycats trying to siphon its traffic.

### An account with 378 followers, 850k views

On Nov 2025 9, a TikTok account with only 378 followers posted a video captioned just "Christmas lists > #giftful". It has 850k views so far. Two months earlier, @itzzzme.hailey, with 6,584 followers, posted "This is your sign to start your Christmas list!! This app is so good!!", which got 896k views. Search "giftful" on TikTok by popularity and the top results are mostly small accounts with a few thousand followers, posting girls scrolling through their wishlists page by page, with views ranging from a few hundred thousand to over 1.8M. Giftful's own official account, @giftful.app, has only 673 followers.

New York Magazine's shopping section Strategist wrote about this in Aug 2026 28. The reporter talked to 7 girls, and 7 of them said roughly the same thing: "Oh, all my friends use Giftful." GoWish and Giftster exist too, but "Giftful is the most popular." One college student said, "I'm always the one who gets everyone hooked." In Oct 4, a parenting column in Slate put it even more bluntly: every teen girl I know has it on her home screen.

### What it is

When you see something you want on any online store, paste the link into Giftful, and it automatically pulls the image, price and name; you add the size and color. Then you share the list with family, group chats and Secret Santa groups. Recipients don't need the app; they open the web page, browse, and click through to buy. Before buying, they tap "claim" so other relatives know someone has already bought the item, while the list maker can't see who claimed what, so the surprise is preserved. The official FAQ now says claiming doesn't require an account either.

Where the money comes from: every product on a list carries an affiliate link, and when someone buys through it, Giftful takes a commission (stated in the New York magazine piece). There are no paid memberships and no caps. Revenue is not public, and there is no funding record.

It's on four platforms: iOS, Android, web and a Chrome extension. Users are mostly on iPhone: in the US App Store it has 106,932 ratings at 4.84 stars, reached #5 on the free Lifestyle chart in Nov 5, and since Nov 3 has been on the overall free chart (11-07 at #155). Google Play has 390k installs, and the Chrome extension has 50k users.

### Why it's growing now: first the season, then the product itself

The numbers: giftful.com's global rank was 145k in Oct 6, climbed to 64k in Nov 5, and grew 2.3x in one month. From 7 to September it hovered around 150k, and it only started accelerating after Oct 12, right when people begin making Christmas lists around Halloween.

But putting similar sites side by side makes the answer clear:

| Website | 10-06 rank | 11-05 rank | 30-day change |
|---|---|---|---|
| giftful.com | 144,679 | 63,873 | ×2.27 |
| gowish.com | About 100k (10-01) | 51,616 | ×1.97 |
| giftster.com | 239,297 | 113,493 | ×2.11 |
| elfster.com | 132,301 | 72,178 | ×1.83 |
| giftlist.com | 530,423 | 321,321 | ×1.65 |

The whole wishlist category doubled in the same month; Giftful only edged out its peers slightly.

There's also a non-seasonal part: by Chrome real-user traffic tiers, its global tier rose from "top 500k" to "top 100k" already in September (before peak season), and the UK, Australia and Canada also moved up tiers. So it is growing, but Christmas season accounts for most of this month's doubling.

One more point: why would an app's website rank jump so much? Because the people making lists are in the app, and the people opening lists are on the web. Each girl sends her list to her parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles, and all of them click through to giftful.com. The website ranking is really counting "how many holiday lists were opened by relatives," so it naturally scales with the holiday.

### Why it wins among teen girls

Functionally it's similar to its rivals. It wins on two things.

**It turns the wishlist into a social feature.** You can follow friends, add items from a friend's list to yours in one tap, and react to items on their lists; the discovery page has style collections like "Vanilla Girl," "Y2K Girl" and "Old Money," plus a live Top 100 trending chart. The New York magazine reporter wrote that girls post their lists on TikTok to show off their taste and gain followers on Giftful, and comments read "if you're a cool girl or like pink, search this Giftful." The list is no longer just telling family what to buy; it's a form of self-presentation. Giftster and Elfster are tools for families and office gift swaps, without this layer, so they lost among teens.

**Almost no barrier for the person receiving gifts.** Grandparents don't need to install anything. The official blog even has a post on "how to share your wishlist with family who aren't tech-savvy."

This mechanism means distribution doesn't rely on the company itself: girls post lists, viewers download to make their own, then send links to the whole family. It has barely bought traffic: no advertiser for it turned up in the Meta ad library, and no paid partnerships were seen on TikTok. This contrasts with its rivals.

### Who it's competing with

| Competitors | Scale (App Store US, Google Play, 11-07) | How it differs from Giftful |
|---|---|---|
| GoWish (Denmark) | Lifestyle free chart #1.21 in the US; 10k new ratings in a week; 4.62M Play installs; claims 20M global signups | Nearly identical features. 2026 August raise, valuation above $200M, TechCrunch reported 2024 FY net profit of $1.7M. Paid creators with millions of followers promote it, in 12 languages |
| Elfster | 330k ratings, but only 367 new in a week | Core feature is Secret Santa draws |
| Giftster | 20k ratings, 440k on Play | Built for family group chats, no discovery or social features |
| Listful (2024-07 launch) | 26k ratings, 360k on Play, +30k in a month | Late entrant running its own TikTok account (18k followers) and publishing 'Giftful alternative' comparison posts |
| GiftList, WishApp, Wishfox, and others | Small | Search-capture pages titled 'Giftful vs X' |

GoWish has built a product almost identical to Giftful and is twice its size. That means Giftful's social design isn't the moat. What's working is the category itself: teens treat wishlists as social currency, and during the holidays share links pull the whole family in. Whoever becomes 'the one everyone uses' within a group wins, and that position is hard to take away.

### If it were you

**C: Worth learning from, not worth chasing.** The US English market already has two heavyweights: GoWish (well funded, profitable, buying creators) and Giftful (earned trust among teen girls), with a row of others like Listful and GiftList fighting over search traffic. NY Mag, Slate and TechCrunch have covered them, and their revenue models and valuations are public. Building an English clone leaves almost no room.

- **Who it's for** : people working in a language or community where GoWish and Giftful haven't gone deep, who already have a channel. For example, if you're inside a teen or college community in a particular country and make short videos, you could get the first few dozen girls using it before back-to-school season or a local gifting holiday.

- **Who it's not for** : anyone aiming at the English market; anyone who can only code and hopes the app stores or search will send organic traffic; anyone planning to charge subscriptions (everyone in this category is free, and the only income is affiliate commissions, which are small without volume).

- **How to build it** : don't build 'another wishlist,' build a wishlist for one community. Copy only three things: paste any link and it auto-pulls the product; the gift recipient can view and claim items from a web link without installing an app; follow friends, add items to your own list in one tap, and browse style collections and trending charts. Affiliate commissions from Amazon and the main local retailers. Note that GoWish already runs in 12 languages and Giftful added 2025 more in October 6, so check the app store rankings of your chosen market before you start.

- **How to get users** : copy Giftful, not GoWish. Skip the official account and give the first few dozen users a wishlist page worth sharing (good-looking, screenshot-friendly, with style tags), so they post 'my Christmas / birthday / back-to-school list' on TikTok. Each list shared with family is web traffic for you.

- **When it needs to be ready** : you can't win mindshare for this Christmas anymore, since people are already using the established options this week. The next windows are the 2027 birthday season and the August back-to-school season (the NY Mag piece was written around back-to-school), and you need a core group of users by next summer at the latest.

- **What would prove this wrong** : (1) if giftful.com and gowish.com don't fall back in rankings after January, the category is still expanding fast and the opportunity is bigger than it looks; (2) conversely, if a late entrant like Listful, launched 2024 and also TikTok-driven, catches up to Giftful's rating growth in the first half of next year, then 'first come, first served' isn't that strong and the English market still has room; (3) if GoWish spends new funding on creators in the market you picked, skip that market.

A last note for anyone building products: the most copyable part of Giftful isn't the wishlist, it's the share link. The person making the list uses the app, and the person who receives the link uses the web without installing anything, so one user can bring in a dozen visitors every holiday. Any product where one person builds and a group views can ask whether the link lets the recipient in with zero friction.

Where users come from

- **Verified** **Organic TikTok UGC** : a TikHub search for giftful's top 20 results is mostly small accounts with 1–7k followers posting Christmas lists, with 150k–1.83M views; the official @giftful.app has just 673 followers

- **Verified** **teen word-of-mouth / recruitment** : NYMag 2026-08-28:7 teen girls interviewed all said their friends use Giftful, "more popular than GoWish and Giftster"; Slate 2026-10-04 described the same; iOS reviews are full of teen slang

- **Verified** **Share-link virality (web)** : lists are sent to family or group chats, and recipients claim items on the web without installing (official blog: share-wishlist-family-not-tech-savvy), and site rankings grow with the holidays

- **Verified** **Media / PR** : 2025-10-27 GlobeNewswire press release (6 languages plus price comparison, 3M+ users); NYMag and Slate coverage

- Inferred **SEO / Pinterest** : the official blog and /explore/top-100 trend pages; 3k searches for 'Giftful wishlist' on Pinterest

- Inferred **Paid ads** : no giftful advertisers in the metaads library, no #Ad creator partnerships seen on TikTok; this contrasts with GoWish's paid creator promotion

## Why Giftful (giftful.com) is climbing

> Research date 2026-11-07. Data: our traffic / appstore / googleplay / chromestore / metaads libraries (queried 2026-11-07); web pages retrieved via Jina search and reading; TikTok via TikHub.

### One line

Giftful is a wishlist / gift registry app and Chrome extension (iOS, Android, web) launched in 2019 by a husband and wife, Cono and Hannah Onorato (Atlanta, Giftful LLC; Tracxn lists it as unfunded). Friends and family can anonymously claim gifts to avoid duplicate purchases, it's free forever, and it earns through affiliate commissions on product links. **Most of this website ranking jump is the wishlist category's year-end seasonal surge** (similar sites doubled in the same 30 days). Giftful's own specific cause is that **from 2025–2026 it became the default wishlist app among American teenage girls** , spread through organic UGC on TikTok rather than paid acquisition. It is not the category leader: Denmark's GoWish is about twice its size.

### 1. Data: how much it grew, and whether it's the only one growing

#### Website ranking (traffic library, Tranco)

| Date | giftful.com | gowish.com | elfster.com | giftster.com | listful.com | giftlist.com |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 2026-08-06 | 151,629 | — | 149,876 | 224,632 | 453,667 | 707,920 |
| 2026-10-06 | 144,679 | 101,719(10-01) | 132,301 | 239,297 | 457,383 | 530,423 |
| 2026-11-05 | **63,873** | 51,616 | 72,178 | 113,493 | 294,886 | 321,321 |
| 30-day multiple | **×2.27** | ×1.97 | ×1.83 | ×2.11 | ×1.55 | ×1.65 |

- Giftful's Tranco rank sat roughly between 7k and 15k from 160 to September, and only began accelerating after October 12 (139,508 → 11-05, 63,873), a classic 'Christmas lists start after Halloween' curve.

- **Peer sites doubled over the same period** , while large registry sites (zola, babylist, myregistry) barely moved. So most of the '×2.3' in the recall score is seasonal. Giftful is slightly ahead of its peers, but it isn't unique.

- Beyond seasonality: CrUX global tier 2026-08 top 500k → 2026-09 top 100k; UK 2026-08 top 500k → top 100k; Australia 2026-07 onward top 50k; US has held at top 50k (crux_domain). That is, sites were already moving up by September (before peak season), which means part of this is real year-over-year growth, not just Christmas.

#### App (where the traffic mostly comes from)

- iOS US: Lifestyle free chart 10-28 #10 → 11-05 (from 5,11-03), entered the overall free chart (#11-07 at 155); rating 106,932, 4.84 stars, about 7 new ratings in the last 4,700 days, 11-04 new on a single day 1,187 (appstore library). Canada Lifestyle #9, UK #97, Australia #60.

- Google Play: 390,819 installs, +7 in the last 12,035 days (googleplay library).

- Chrome extension: 50k users, rating 4.57 / 21 reviews, developer listed as Eyethirst (Hannah's company Eyethirst Media on LinkedIn) (chromestore library).

- **Web vs app** : list-makers mostly use the app (iOS ratings are 20 times Android's, and users skew toward US iPhone-using teens). **Web traffic mostly comes from shared list links** . The official blog stresses that family recipients 'don't need to download the app, just click the link to view and claim' (giftful.com/blog/share-wishlist-family-not-tech-savvy/). So giftful.com's ranking is essentially 'how many lists are being shared and opened by friends and family,' which naturally scales with the holidays.

### 2. Competitors

| Product | Where | Launched | Scale (2026-11-07 in the database) | How Giftful differs |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| GoWish (Denmark's Ønskeskyen ApS) | iOS / Android / web | iOS 2023-04 (Denmark earlier) | US Lifestyle **#1** , overall free chart #27, iOS rating 213,639 (+7 in 10,155 days), Play 4.62M installs; officially claims 20M global signups; 2026-08 funding at a valuation above $200M (TNW 2026-08-24); FY2024 net profit $1.7M (TechCrunch 2025-11-07) | Category leader with capital and paid creator promotion (#Ad partnerships on TikTok, e.g. a creator with 4.59M followers, @iampresleefaith); claiming requires login; 12 languages |
| Elfster | iOS / Android / web | 2013 | iOS US 330k ratings but only +7 in the last 367 days; Play 1.49M | Core feature is Secret Santa draws; wishlists are secondary |
| Giftster | iOS / Android / web | 2011 | iOS US 19,874 rating; Play 440k; officially claims 3M members | Aimed at family groups and older users; weak on social and discovery |
| Listful(Listful LLC) | iOS / Android / web | 2024-07 | US iOS 26,308 rating (7 days +1,232), Play 360k (7 days +30k); TikTok account 18.4k followers | “For people with taste”: an official TikTok account, plus a “Giftful alternative” comparison page |
| GiftList(Malibu Vista Ventures) | iOS / web | 2024-11 | iOS US 1,439 ratings | SEO comparison page “Giftful vs GiftList” |
| WishApp / Wishfox / Ouish / WishList.com | Web / Chrome | the past two years | extension 1 thousand–20k users | a small player, living off SEO comparison articles that siphon traffic |
| Moonsift, Sortd, Throne | web + extension / iOS | 2021–2023 | Moonsift extension 50k, Throne iOS 8,274 rating | Moonsift leans curated; Throne targets creators collecting gifts |
| Big-company features | Amazon wishlists / Target and Walmart registries | Already around | Huge | Only stores their own products, no cross-store support |

Verdict: crowded niche with one well-funded leader (GoWish). Giftful is a steady top-tier #2 on US iOS (category rank 5, third in rating count), not a newcomer.

### 3. Growth tactics (evidence)

1. **Organic TikTok UGC (confirmed, the main channel)** . Searching TikHub for "giftful" by popularity, the top 20 videos are mostly small accounts with 1–7K followers (mostly teen girls) posting "my Christmas wishlist", with 150K–1.83M views. E.g. @itzzzme.hailey (6.6K followers) with 896K views, @sophiaroverman (7, 1.3K followers) with 610K, @angelina.montoya (26, 6K followers) with 1.83M. The official TikTok @giftful.app has only 673 followers and 73 posts, so the spread isn't driven by the official account.

2. **Teen word of mouth / “pulling friends in”** (confirmed). NYMag Strategist 2026-08-28, “Teens Are Making Wish Lists for Everything Right Now”: 7 teen girls interviewed said “all my friends use Giftful,” and “GoWish and Giftster exist too, but Giftful is the most popular.” Some post their lists on TikTok as a way to grow their Giftful following. Slate 2026-10-04 parenting column: “It's on the home screen of every teenage girl I know.” Recent US iOS reviews are full of teen slang (“so preppy,” “skibidi,” “I am verified,” “my friends' lists”), and some say it's “better than GoWish.”

3. **Built-in viral sharing** (product mechanic, inferred but backed by official signals). Lists get sent to family, group chats, and Secret Santa groups via links. Recipients don't need the app; they open the web page to claim items, so each list brings several to a dozen relatives to giftful.com before the holidays.

4. **Media / PR** (confirmed). 2025-10-27 GlobeNewswire press releases (6 new languages + price tracking, claiming 3M+ users); 2026 coverage by NYMag and Slate (the latter critical, but it still spread the name).

5. **SEO** (partly confirmed). The site has lots of blog posts (birthday lists, price tracking, etc.) and /explore/top-100 trend pages that get indexed by search and Pinterest (“Giftful wishlist” has 3k searches on Pinterest).

6. **Paid ads** : our Meta ad library shows no Giftful advertiser (not finding one ≠ no spend), and we saw no #Ad partnerships on TikTok, unlike GoWish. Our read: essentially no paid acquisition.

### 4. Why it charted

- **Seasonality + category trend** : from mid-October to early November, the whole wishlist category's traffic doubled together. That's the main driver of this rebound.

- **Became the default tool in US teen girl circles** : it turned the “wishlist” from a gift tool into social and taste signaling (follow friends, copy items from friends' lists, react to items with emojis, and Explore has style collections like “Vanilla Girl,” “Y2K Girl,” and “Old Money,” plus a Top 100 trend chart). Girls post lists on TikTok → viewers download and make their own → they send the link to parents and grandparents (web traffic).

- **No barrier for the gift recipient** : relatives tap the link and claim items anonymously without signing up. Competitor GoWish requires login to claim (per the wishfox.app comparison page). This amplifies web-side traffic.

- **Completely free, no paid tier** : it earns affiliate commissions (NYMag confirmed “Giftful takes a cut from every gift bought through its links”), so it has no limits and happily lets people pull in friends.

### 5. Differentiation

- Versus GoWish: nearly identical features (cross-store saving, claiming, discovery, following friends). Giftful differs in (a) claiming without login and shared links that are easy for older relatives, and (b) no funding and almost no paid acquisition, relying entirely on US teen word of mouth. GoWish has funding, paid creators, and multiple languages, and is roughly twice Giftful's size.

- Versus Giftster / Elfster: those are “utilities” for families and gift-exchange draws. Giftful built a discovery feed, style collections, and follow relationships into a teen girls' social shopping list. That's why it beat the older players with teens.

- Is it just the season? **Partly.** Social + discovery made it the word-of-mouth pick among teen girls (NYMag's words). But the main driver of this rank climb is seasonality, and GoWish runs nearly the same product at greater scale, so differentiation isn't a moat. The real growth engine is the category mechanic itself: teens treating lists as social currency plus holiday share links.

### 6. Visibility

Already widely covered: NYMag Strategist (2026-08) and Slate (2026-10) ran features on it. Competitors (Listful, GiftList, WishApp, Wishfox, Ouish) all publish “Giftful alternative / Giftful vs X” comparison pages to capture its search traffic. Revenue is not public (unfunded, not on TrustMRR), but GoWish's profit and valuation are public (TechCrunch, TNW, Bloomberg), and the niche is already crowded.

### 7. Takeaways

- “Zero-friction share links for recipients”: let users send product links to people who don't have the app, so web traffic builds naturally.

- Turn the tool into a teen identity expression (style collections, follows, trend charts), and word of mouth grows on TikTok by itself, with no need to run an official account.

- The free affiliate-commission model suits “users find products, others pay” use cases, and conversion during gift season is naturally high.

### 8. Still uncertain

- Affiliate commission revenue scale and team size (Tracxn says unfunded; we haven't verified whether there's outside investment).

- 2026-year user count (3M is the press release's figure, 2025-10).

- Whether there's paid spend we can't see (Google and TikTok US ads aren't in our libraries).

- Tranco only starts from 2026-07-30, so we can't compare against the same period 2025 years earlier to quantify how much year-over-year growth there was.
