# An app for "see who someone recently followed" pushed its website into the global top 30k with 800 free download pages

**What it is** A free Instagram tools site (downloading Reels, viewing Stories anonymously, exporting follower lists), backed by a paid app that shows who someone recently followed.

**Why it took off** In 2026 5–July it shipped 14 languages, 800+ tool pages, and emotional-themed articles all at once, winning search rankings in high-download countries like Indonesia, India, and Mexico. Free traffic carries ads, and people willing to pay are sent to in-app purchases.

**B** **How you could follow it** Don't copy the Instagram download site plus snooping-app combo; that space is already crowded. Instead, move the "free tool site + paid app" funnel to a platform or need it hasn't covered (TikTok, Threads, LINE, etc.), launch a dozen-plus languages at once, and win customers through Google organic search.

Grade B: a clear playbook, few people know about it, and it can be replicated; but the download keywords are held by older sites, the "recent follows" app niche is crowded, and it sits on the edge of Instagram's terms, so the endpoints and rankings could be cut off at any time. Few people know about it yet

Global rank 26k · 90 days ago, top 1M+

An indie developer in Taiwan made an app with a single selling point: see who any public IG account has recently followed. The app itself isn't big. What really took off is the website driving its traffic, igexport.com: a pile of free Reels downloaders and anonymous Story viewer pages in 14 languages, which climbed from beyond 90M globally to 1k in 26 days. This piece covers how it caught traffic with free tools and then sent people to the paid app, and whether you can use the same playbook.

### A thought about a boyfriend

The "About" page on igexport.com describes the founder Bob's starting point: he noticed his partner's following count slowly climbing and wondered whether he was secretly following more and more pretty women. Instagram doesn't let you sort someone's following list by time, so the order is scrambled and you can't tell who's new. So he built a tool: enter a username and it lists the most recent follows in time order, with no login and nothing visible to the target.

That tool is Recent Follow, listed on the App Store and Google Play in 8 Apr 2025. The Play developer is listed as Tseng Yu Chien and the App Store seller as Bob Wei, which suggests the same Taiwanese team (an inference, not verified). This isn't a newcomer: 2021 years earlier he shipped an Instagram follower-analytics app, Friendships Pro (146k Play installs), and an iOS browser, Tube Browser Pro (4,377 ratings). He's been scraping IG data for five years.

### How the site suddenly took off

The domain igexport.com was newly registered on 2024-10-06, not a purchased aged domain. Its trend in the Tranco global site ranking:

| Date | Global rank |
|---|---|
| 2026-08-13 | #719,630 |
| 2026-09-10 | #263,214 |
| 2026-10-01 | #96,203 |
| 2026-11-05 | #25,802 |

It climbed every week and never stopped. Chrome's real-user data shows the same trend: globally it moved from the top 1M in June to the top 10k by September; Indonesia and India reached the top 5k, Mexico the top 10k, and more than a dozen countries, including the US, UK, Germany, Brazil, and Spain, reached the top 50k. Taiwan was already in the top 100k by May, and that's its home base.

At this scale it's roughly on par with long-established IG download sites like anonyig.com (ranked #8,574) and storysaver.net (ranked #8,645).

The app side is much quieter: Google Play installs are 10-29 to 154,443,11-06 to 167,347, about 1,600 a day; 1,887 ratings, averaging 4.05. On the iOS Taiwan store it has 354 ratings and averages 3.3, ranking #89 in Entertainment Top Grossing; in Italy's Entertainment Top Grossing it ranks #43. The website's traffic grew dozens of times over 90 days while the app grew steadily. Most people arriving at the site are there to download Reels, not to check on their boyfriends.

### What it actually does: 800 pages in 14 languages

Going through its sitemap: 804 URLs across 14 languages, with 122 in English, 93 in Chinese, 80 in Japanese, and 62 in Thai, plus 48–49 each in French, Indonesian, Spanish, Italian, and Portuguese, and also Korean, German, Turkish, Arabic, and Russian. The last-modified dates cluster in 2026 May (151 pages), June (101 pages), and July (157 pages), which matches the Chrome user data's climb starting in June.

The pages fall into three categories:

- **Free tool pages** , over thirty of them: Reels download, Story download, highlight viewing, profile picture download, anonymous Story viewing, font generator, follower-list export to CSV, plus "LINE block detection" specific to Taiwan, Japan, and Thailand.

- **Emotional long-tail articles** : "how to see who my boyfriend recently followed", "apps to catch a cheater", "how to win back an ex". People reading these are exactly the ones who will pay for Recent Follow.

- **Competitor alternative pages** : "DolphinRadar alternative", "Snoopreport alternative", "FollowSpy alternative", capturing searches for the rivals' brand names.

A spot-check with Brave Search (not Google, so treat as a rough reference): "instagram highlights viewer" #1 in the US, "instagram follower export" #1 in the US, "descargar reels instagram" #2 in Mexico, "instagram reels download" #5 in India, "lihat story ig tanpa ketahuan" (Indonesian for "view IG stories without getting caught") #4 in Indonesia, and in Taiwan the top two results for "ig 最近追蹤" are both its pages. Its own headline query, "see who someone recently followed on instagram", ranks only #11. The fastest-rising countries, Indonesia, India and Mexico, are the biggest markets for download-type searches.

### Where the money comes from

Three revenue lines are visible on the site:

1. **Web ads** : Google AdSense is placed across the pages. Non-converting traffic still earns something, so it can afford to spread free tools widely.

2. **Web-to-app funnel** : every tool page has an app download card, and the links carry source tags (for example `reels_app_card`, `recent-follow_hero_badge`), so it can tell how many installs each page brings in. A comparison article by competitor DolphinRadar says the IGExport web version shows only 3 accounts, with the rest blurred, and that you have to "unlock in the app".

3. **In-app purchases** : on Play, items are priced $0.99–$199.99 each. The top tier at $199.99 suggests it is betting on a type of buyer: someone suspicious enough to pay a lot for an answer.

Revenue is not public and can't be estimated from outside. On iOS it has charted in the top 140 of the Entertainment Top Grossing charts in Taiwan, Italy, Brazil and Spain, so people are paying, but the scale is small.

### Who it's competing with

| Competitors | What it is | Scale | How it differs |
|---|---|---|---|
| igram, sssinstagram, storysaver, anonyig, fastdl | Long-established IG download sites | Global rank #1,500–9,000, no movement in three months | Earns only ad revenue, no app funnel |
| DolphinRadar | Web-based follower tracking | Global rank #62,368, flat | Web subscriptions and email alerts; has already written an article specifically comparing it with Recent Follow |
| The Ick: Recent Follow Tracker | App, launched 2025-09 | Play 1.5M installs | Pulls users through TikTok; its app is an order of magnitude bigger |
| Scoper | iOS, launched 2026-05 | 474 ratings | Lots of TikTok creator videos, top single video 53k views |
| Katch, Peekly, Lurk, Followpeek, Susly, FollowSpy | Small apps with the same concept | Most have only a few to a few dozen ratings | A flood of entrants over 2024–2026 |
| Followers & Unfollowers, FollowMeter, Reports+ | Older "who unfollowed me" apps | Play 2.7M–9.5M installs | Those require logging into your own account and show you your own data; this one lets you look at others without logging in |

The "recent follows" concept is already crowded. What got this one through was not a better app (everyone says "real-time" and "100% anonymous"), but that others either ran download sites that only earn ads or apps that rely on TikTok for users, while it connected the two. It has almost no presence on TikTok, nobody has mentioned it on X in nearly 90 days, and there is no media coverage. The only people taking it seriously are its competitors.

### It didn't stumble onto anything

From 8 to November, the rankings of old download sites like igram, sssinstagram and storysaver barely moved. No big site collapsed to open up space. It won share from the existing pool page by page and language by language, which means the playbook can be copied, and also that there is no window to catch.

### If it were you

**B.** The playbook is worth studying and can be reproduced, but copying the same thing, an IG download site plus a snooping app, runs into three walls: the download keywords are held by established sites, the "recent follows" app space is already packed, and the whole thing sits right on the edge of Instagram's terms. A better approach is to carry this "free tools site + paid app" funnel over to another platform or another need.

**Who it suits** : 1–2 people who have done SEO, can mass-produce multilingual pages, and have or can build a stable data-scraping backend. Best if their native or familiar market is somewhere with high download demand and weak English competition, such as Indonesia, Thailand, Vietnam or Turkey.

**Who it doesn't suit** : anyone who has never touched scrapers or can't cope with APIs getting blocked every few days; anyone who only wants English-speaking markets; anyone who is uncomfortable with "helping people spy on their partners", since the buying motive in this business is suspicion.

**How to do it** : first pick one platform and one free need with high search volume but poor monetization (downloads, exports, anonymous viewing, fonts), then put one emotionally driven need with lower search volume but willingness to pay into the paid app. Possible directions: on platforms like TikTok, Threads, LINE or Telegram, the part it hasn't reached or hasn't done well; or the LINE block-detection tool, which it has already shown works, pushed deeper into Japan and Thailand. The free tier gives only a preview; full results and alerts go in the app.

**How to get users** : organic Google search. Launch in 10+ languages at once, each with genuinely written pages rather than a layer of machine translation; put an app download card with source tags on every tool page; write an alternative page for every competitor; and produce a batch of emotional long-tail articles that overlap with the paying user profile. Ads on the web pages cover the base costs, and you track how many installs each page brings in.

**When to start by** : there is no hard deadline, since this isn't event-driven. But sites like this take 3–4 months from launch to ranking (it built pages in 5–July and only began a clear climb in August), so the sooner you start, the sooner you learn whether search engines accept it.

**Signs you misread it** : ① igexport.com drops back below global rank #2027k before February of 100, which would mean Google has demoted the programmatic pages and this path is more fragile than it looks; ② Recent Follow's daily installs on Play fall to a few hundred, meaning website traffic isn't reaching the app and the funnel doesn't hold; ③ Instagram tightens public data access again, or Meta sues tool makers like this, and similar sites go offline in bulk, which removes the foundation of the whole category.

Where users come from

- **Verified** **multilingual programmatic SEO** : sitemap with 804 URLs in 14 languages, lastmod concentrated between 2026-05 and 07; Brave spot-check: 'instagram highlights viewer' #1 US store, 'descargar reels instagram' #2 Mexico, 'instagram reels download' #5 India, 'ig 最近追蹤' #1 Taiwan

- **Verified** **competitor alternative pages / emotional long-tail content** : dolphin-radar-alternatives, snoopreport-alternatives, see-who-my-boyfriend-recently-followed, apps-to-catch-a-cheater and similar pages

- **Verified** **web-to-app traffic funnel** : tool pages carry App Store / Play download cards with ct=reels_app_card and UTM parameters; the web gives only a preview, and unlocking requires the app

- **Verified** **AdSense monetization** : page source includes pagead2.googlesyndication.com scripts

- Inferred **paid ads / TikTok / X** : nothing matched in our ad libraries; TikHub and x-radar also return nothing for it

## Why igexport.com (IGExport / Recent Follow) is able to break through

> Data: our traffic / googleplay / appstore / chromestore libraries (as of 2026-11-05–07); web pages read and searched via Jina / Brave, TikTok via TikHub, X via x-radar. Today is 2026-11-07.

### One line

A Taiwanese indie developer (Play developer name Tseng Yu Chien, iOS seller name Bob Wei) running an "Instagram tools directory" site. The main app is **Recent Follow** , sold on showing who someone has recently followed. The website first uses free tools to capture long-tail search, then sends traffic to the app, while AdSense runs on the side. The site's traffic surge came mainly from multilingual tool pages launched in batches from 2026 5–July (Reels / Story / video / avatar downloads, anonymous story viewing, highlight viewing, and so on), not from Recent Follow itself.

### What it is

- The homepage is a follower/following list export to CSV (public accounts, no login needed). Its portfolio includes Recent Follow (iOS/Android app, listed on 2025-04-08/09), LINE Block Checker, a pile of IG downloaders and viewers, a Font Generator, and AI relationship analysis. The About page calls itself an "independent developer studio", and the founding story is "noticed my partner following more and more people, wanted to know if he was secretly following pretty girls" (igexport.com/en/about).

- Monetization has three lines: ① Google AdSense on the web pages (the page source includes `pagead2.googlesyndication.com ... ca-pub-5931171682448636`); ② every tool page carries an app download card (attribution parameters such as `ct=reels_app_card` and `recent-follow_hero_badge`), funneling users to Recent Follow; ③ in-app purchases, priced on Play at "$0.99 – $199.99 per item" (googleplay app_snap). A DolphinRadar comparison article says the free web preview shows only 3 accounts, the rest blurred, with "Unlock in the app".

- The domain was registered 2024-10-06 (Verisign RDAP), not an aged domain changing hands. The same developer had earlier made Friendships Pro (146k installs on Play, listed in 2021, ranked #36 in Taiwan's TOOLS paid chart) and Tube Browser Pro (2021,4,377 ratings on iOS), so they have been building IG and social tools for several years.

### Growth data

- **Tranco** : 2026-08-13 #719,630 → 09-10 #263,214 → 10-01 #96,203 → 11-05 #25,802, climbing every week in between with no pause (traffic.rank_day).

- **CrUX global** : 2026-06 top 1M → 07 top 500k → 08 top 50k → 09 top 10k. By country: Indonesia July top 50k, August top 5 thousand; India September top 5 thousand; Mexico top 10k; the US, UK, Germany, Spain, Brazil, Canada, Australia, Italy, South Korea, Netherlands, Poland, Thailand and Turkey are all in the top 50k. Taiwan 2026-05 was already in the top 100k, suggesting Taiwan is where it started (traffic.crux_domain).

- **The app is much smaller** : Google Play installs 10-29 154,443 → 11-06 167,347,8 days up 12.9k, about 1.6k a day on average; 1,887 ratings, 4.05 stars (googleplay). iOS US store 301 ratings; Taiwan store 354 ratings, 7 new ratings in 36 days, Entertainment Top Grossing #89; Italy Entertainment Top Grossing #43 (appstore library).

- **Takeaway** : Website traffic is in the same league as IG download sites like anonyig.com (#8,574), storysaver.net (#8,645) and snapgram.io (#80,079), and far bigger than the app's scale. The traffic is mostly on the web, and mostly from people using free download/viewer tools. The app catches only a small slice of them.

### Competitors

| Name | Where | Launched | Scale | How it differs |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| DolphinRadar | Web | Earlier than 2025 | Tranco #62,368, flat for three months; CrUX global top 50k | Web dashboard + email alerts, subscribe right on the site; IGExport keeps payment in the app and uses push notifications. DolphinRadar already published "DolphinRadar vs Recent Follow by IGExport" (support.dolphinradar.com, about 4 weeks ago). |
| The Ick: Recent Follow Tracker(Vaste) | Android/iOS + theick.io | 2025-09 | Play 1.5M installs; theick.io Tranco #166k | App only, relies on TikTok; IGExport's app is an order of magnitude smaller, but its website is much bigger |
| Scoper: Profile Insights | iOS | 2026-05 | 474 ratings; lots of @Scoper.app creator videos on TikTok (top single video 53k views) | Relies on TikTok UGC/creators; IGExport has almost no presence on TikTok |
| recentfollow.com / RecentFollow | Web | Not verified | Tranco #696k; promoted via TikTok account rezzywiththe.girltea (1.5–31k views) | Same-name web product, much smaller scale |
| Snoopreport | Web | Long-established | Not in Tranco top 1M; CrUX top 500k–1M by country | Reports weekly, not real-time |
| Katch, Peekly, Lurk, Followpeek, Susly, FollowSpy, Toxic | iOS | 2024-09 ~ 2026-07 | Except Toxic (4,721 ratings), the rest have only single-digit to a few dozen ratings | Small copycat apps for the same concept are flooding in |
| Followers & Unfollowers, FollowMeter, Reports+ | Android/iOS | 2014–2023 | Play 2.7M–9.5M; Reports+ on iOS 498k ratings | Shows "who unfollowed me" and requires logging into your own account; IGExport looks at others' accounts and needs no login |
| igram.world / sssinstagram / storysaver / anonyig / fastdl / indown | Web | Old site | Tranco #1.5k–#9k, flat over three months | Pure download sites; IGExport adds a "recent follows" app funnel, LINE tools and relationship content |
| Exporter for Followers (igexporter.com), Export Followers free (igexport.net, whose developer name is also IGExport) | Chrome | 2022, 2025-05 | 600k, 20k users | Nearly the same name but made by different people; igexport.net was registered 2023 years ago, so it's not a copycat |
| Instagram official | Big-company features | — | — | Instagram's official following list isn't sorted by time, which is the pain point IGExport's landing pages keep hammering on |

### Where users come from (growth levers)

1. **Multilingual programmatic SEO (confirmed, main channel)** : the sitemap has 804 URLs across 14 languages (en 122, zh 93, ja 80, th 62, fr/id 49, es/it/pt 48, ko 45, de/tr 44, ar 39, ru 32). lastmod clusters on 2026-05 (151 URLs), 06 (101 URLs) and 07 (157 URLs), matching the climb from June in CrUX. Pages fall into three groups: tool pages (reels-download, ig-story-download, instagram-highlights-viewer, profile-picture-download, font-generator, etc., 30+ pages); long-tail snooping and emotional articles (see-who-my-boyfriend-recently-followed, apps-to-catch-a-cheater, how-to-get-your-ex-back); and competitor alternative pages (dolphin-radar-alternatives, snoopreport-alternatives, follow-spy-alternatives). Brave spot-check rankings: "instagram highlights viewer" (US) #1; "instagram follower export" (US) #1; "descargar reels instagram" (MX) #2; "instagram reels download" (IN) #5; "lihat story ig tanpa ketahuan" (ID) #4; "anonymous instagram story viewer" (US) #6; "line block checker" (US) takes 6 of the top 5 spots; "ig 最近追蹤" (TW) all of the top 2 are its pages; "see who someone recently followed on instagram" (US) only ranks #11. Indonesia, India and Mexico, the countries with the biggest download demand, are also where it's rising fastest, which fits the idea that traffic comes from download/viewer tool pages. Brave is not Google, so treat these rankings as a rough reference only.

2. **Web to app funnel (confirmed)** : tool pages and landing pages carry App Store / Play download cards with ct / utm tracking parameters; the web version only previews results, and unlocking them requires the app (proven by DolphinRadar's comparison article).

3. **AdSense (confirmed)** : Free tool traffic can earn ad revenue even when it doesn't convert to app users.

4. **Paid ads** : No ads show up in the recall card and our ad library has no match; TikTok/X searches find no ads or creator content for it (TikHub searches for "igexport" and "recent follow app" return nothing). Google search ads can't be ruled out, but there's no evidence.

5. **TikTok / X / Reddit** : x-radar shows 0 posts mentioning "igexport" in the last 90 days; Reddit has only scattered posts about IG export extensions, which may not be related. Social media has largely done nothing for it.

6. **Platform events** : Veteran IG download sites like igram, sssinstagram, storysaver, fastdl, indown and snapinsta were basically flat from 8 through November on Tranco. No big site has gone down and left room. It's taking share from the existing pool bit by bit, not riding a platform event.

### Visibility

Hardly anyone knows about it yet. No public revenue (no TrustMRR listing or founder posts about earnings), 0 mentions in x-radar, and no press coverage. The only people paying attention are peers: DolphinRadar's support site wrote a dedicated comparison; privatestoryviewer.com 2026-07-12 published an "IGExport Review" (itself SEO content); Scamadviser has a check page. The Modyolo cracked version and the saaspirate comparison page mentioned in the recall card were not re-verified this time.

### Why it's working

1. **Grabbing big search traffic with free tools** : Reels/Story download and anonymous story viewing are huge search terms in Indonesia, India, Mexico and Brazil. Within 3 months it rolled out in a dozen-plus languages, and Brave spot checks put several terms in the top 5.

2. **Using snooping and emotional needs for a high-ticket funnel** : "who did he recently follow" is a need driven by jealousy and anxiety, and willingness to pay is high. The highest Play in-app price is $199.99; on iOS it hits #43–#138 on the Entertainment Top Grossing charts in Taiwan, Italy, Brazil and Spain. Free web traffic is routed through this funnel into the app to make money.

3. **AdSense as a backstop** : Traffic that doesn't convert still earns, which is why it can afford to make its free tools very broad.

4. **Experienced developers** : The same person spent 2020–2021 years building IG and browser tools like Friendships and Tube Browser, with existing scraping backends and multilingual experience. The localization isn't a machine-translated veneer: Thai, Japanese, Arabic and Russian each have their own pages.

5. **Starting in Taiwan/LINE, then expanding outward** : CrUX Taiwan was already in the top 100k by 2026-05, and the LINE block checker captured a need specific to Taiwan, Japan and Thailand (Brave search "LINE 封鎖 查詢" in Taiwan ranks #2). English, Indonesian, Spanish and Portuguese traffic came later.

### Differentiation

- Competitors roughly fall into two types: pure download sites (igram, storysaver) that only earn from ads, and pure "recent follows" apps (The Ick, Scoper, Katch) that rely on TikTok creators or paid acquisition for users. IGExport connects the two: it uses the download-site playbook for free SEO traffic, then sends people to a high-ticket snooping app. It also has CSV export and LINE block detection, features few rivals offer.

- The product itself doesn't stand out much: "real-time" and "100% anonymous" are claims rivals make too, and DolphinRadar points out its web preview only shows 3 accounts. What really made it take off is its **distribution playbook** : programmatic SEO plus an app funnel, not better features than others.

### What others can borrow

- A two-layer "free tool site + paid app" funnel: the free layer targets high-search, low-monetization needs (downloaders, font generators); the paid layer targets low-search but high-willingness-to-pay emotional needs ("is he secretly following someone"). Every tool page carries an app card with attribution parameters.

- Roll out 14 languages at once, prioritizing high-traffic non-English countries (Indonesia, India, Mexico, Brazil), where download-related keywords face weaker competition than in English.

- Write an alternatives page for each competitor to capture their brand searches.

- Extend content into relationship and emotional long-tail keywords (get your ex back, catch a cheater apps), which overlap well with the paid app's user profile.

### Still unclear

- Actual Google rankings and the share of each tool in web traffic (Brave is only a reference); how much the app earns; whether it runs Google search ads.

- Why web traffic grew 30x while app installs rose steadily: most traffic may only use the free download tools, or iOS conversion may be higher, but Apple doesn't share the data.

- Instagram's anti-scraping and legal risk: anonymous story viewing and exporting others' followers both sit on the edge of platform terms, and the API could be blocked or rankings could drop at any time.

- Developer identity: the Play listing is under Tseng Yu Chien and the iOS listing under Bob Wei, which looks like the same Taiwanese team, but this hasn't been verified; @imbobwei on X is a different person (a YC founder).
