A bet on a Friday night became, three years later, the term Indians type when they ask AI for astrology: KundliGPT

What it is A website: enter your birth time and place, it generates an Indian astrology chart, then AI answers questions about career, marriage and money in 15 languages, paid per question with coins.

Why it took off It grabbed the name "kundli gpt" back in 2023, and that phrase has since become the go-to search term Indians use when looking for AI astrology (74k monthly searches, ranked #1). In 2026 it added 3,000+ pages for almanacs, auspicious hours and calculators, and as festival season hit, traffic stepped up in July.

CHow you could play it Don't go head-to-head in India. Take the model of a free tool page that captures search traffic, AI readings paid per question, no subscription, and move it to a language or astrology tradition nobody has claimed yet. If you can, first grab a "local term + GPT" name.

C grade: its traction came from the name it grabbed 2023 years ago and the backlinks from press coverage, which followers can't copy. The repeatable playbook is already being run by at least five sites copying the name and by big apps buying paid installs. The Indian market is crowded. What you can learn is the method, not this position. What people in the niche are saying

Global rank 215k · 90 days ago 794k

KundliGPT is a web-based AI Vedic astrologer. It went viral for the first time three years ago during the ChatGPT wave, and came back in summer 2026. This time it didn't buy paid acquisition. It relied on two things: a name that exactly matches what users search, and 3,000 daily panchang pages. A name can't be copied, but the playbook can be learned, and in the Indian astrology market the people trying to learn it are already lining up.

A bet

On 2023 Apr 6, Raj Sutariya, a machine learning engineer working in Germany, posted on X and LinkedIn: "Introducing KundliGPT.com, a GPT-based AI Vedic astrology chat site." He later told Decrypt it started with a Friday-night bet: he bet he could build an AI that would replace his astrologer friend.

That August, India Today, Firstpost, Mint, Decrypt and the Indian government's IndiaAI platform all wrote about this "AI Baba". The author of the IndiaAI piece opened by typing "I want to know about my studies" into the chat box, and the screen replied, "According to your Kundli, the second house, which represents education and knowledge..." Decrypt cited a figure that it already had 20M visits (the company's own claim).

The hype faded. Raj now works in Hamburg as a software engineer at freiheit.com and is running another startup, PatentAssist.ai. KundliGPT has been a side project for him. Tracxn lists it as headquartered in Mumbai, two people, no funding. The About page says it was developed by a small web agency called Codelab7.

In summer 2026, it came back

  • Global rank: at the end of July 2026 it was still around 790k, mid-August it reached 550k, by September 10 it hit 216k, and it has stayed around 215k since (Tranco, 11-05).
  • Real users: In Chrome's real-user data, its global bucket was "top 500k" in June and rose to "top 100k" in July. In India it has stayed in the top 50k the whole time. In September Indonesia and Italy entered the top 1M for the first time.
  • Traffic (Semrush estimates, use for trend only): June 357k, July 540k, August 668k, September dropped back to 476k.

So it stepped up and then leveled off. It's not still climbing. The user base is clear: 85% are in India, 84% are on mobile, and average session time is over 7 minutes (Semrush, September). The app has almost no traffic: Google Play shows "1K+ downloads", and the iPhone version says "coming soon". Almost all traffic is on the web.

Why it: the name is the search term

The top keyword Semrush lists for it in India is "kundli gpt": 74k monthly searches, it ranks #1, and it accounts for 27% of its organic traffic. Next come "kundali gpt" (18k) and "kundli gpt ai" (4,400), which it also ranks #1 for.

People searching this are not necessarily looking for this brand. More likely they want "a GPT that can read my kundli". The more people in India use ChatGPT, the higher this search volume goes. And the name was registered by the site in April 2023. The coverage in 2023 left more than 2,300 backlinks, which also helps it rank high on generic terms: searching "free ai kundli reading" and "vedic astrology ai chatbot" in the India region on Brave, it ranks #1; searching "ai astrologer free", it ranks #2.

The traffic sources also show this: Google organic search is 60%, direct visits are 36%, and no paid traffic was seen (Semrush; it also wasn't found in the Meta ad library. That only means none was seen, not that none was run).

Where the July jump came from: a panchang page set (inferred)

In the web archive from February 2026, the homepage still said "Go Pro subscription, unlimited questions". The whole site has since been rebuilt. The homepage nav now reads "38 features, 36 daily tools, 47 calculators, 31 astrology guides". The sitemap has 3,020 panchang (daily almanac) pages in English and Hindi, running day by day from 2024 to 2027. There are also 224 festival pages, 120 muhurat (auspicious time) pages, and 222 Hindi pages, plus baby name tools, matchmaking calculators and comparison pages like "KundliGPT vs AstroSage". robots.txt explicitly allows GPTBot, with a comment reading "for AI SEO visibility".

These pages can't beat the older almanac site drikpanchang on the big terms (it's ranked #7,794 globally), and it doesn't appear in the top 10 for "today panchang". But it wins long-tail terms, such as "d9 chart calculator" (9,900 monthly searches), where it ranks #1. 7 to October lined up with India's festival season (Shravan, Raksha Bandhan, Ganesh Chaturthi, Navratri), when lots of people look up muhurat and panchang anyway. I couldn't find the exact launch date of the redesign, so the claim that the redesign plus festival season caused the July jump is an inference.

How it makes money: coins per question, no subscription

The current flow: enter date of birth, time and place, the site first computes the chart with Swiss Ephemeris, then the AI answers based on it. Guests can ask 3 questions without signing up. Signing up gives 30 coins, enough for about 3 more questions. Chart generation, daily panchang and 36-point matchmaking are free.

What's paid are the "questions" and the "reports":

ProjectPricing
Regular questions10 coins per question; love and career specialists 15 coins
Topic reports (Manglik, Dasha, gemstones, etc.)From 151 coins, permanent once unlocked
Full Kundli report251 coins
24 hours of unlimited chat151 coins; the pricing page says "for the day a wedding date, job offer or family decision is made"
Coin pack$1.99 / $9.99 / $21.99, coins valid for one year

The pricing page anchors against human astrologers: a single human consultation costs $25 or more, while here $21.99 buys 250 questions. Indian users can pay via Razorpay with UPI and net banking. The page specifically says "no subscription, no automatic renewal", aimed at Indian users' dislike of automatic charges. No revenue figures are public, and nobody has posted any.

ChatGPT / Gemini themselvesGeneral-purpose modelsOn the Reddit Vedic astrology community, someone said ChatGPT's chart readings have gotten more accurate over the past six months

Then there are the name-grabbers: kundligpt.online, kundligpt.net (claims to be "free and unlimited", and 11-01 is still being updated), kundaligpt.in, kundaligpt.ai, and a Play listing at com.kundli.gpt. kundaliai.com, kundliai.app and vedicastrogpt.com all published "KundliGPT alternative" and "X vs KundliGPT" posts between May and August of 2026, riding on its name for traffic. The homepage of kundaligpt.ai even says outright "Calculate first, then read. Unlike other apps where chatbots do the math," and KundliGPT is clearly the target.

KundliGPT has nothing exclusive in its features. The real differences are two: the name and being first. While others were spending money pushing apps, it did web and search.

If it were you

C: you can learn from it, but copying it in India doesn't pay. Its traction came from the name it grabbed 2023 years ago and the backlinks left by that wave of coverage. Followers can't get either. The approach of a web page plus AI reading plus pay-per-question is open to anyone, and at least five sites are already doing it. The big players are spending on apps.

Who it suits: a small team of 1–2 people who can do programmatic SEO, understand some local "fortune-telling" or auspicious-date tradition, and can write natively in the local language. Move this playbook to a market outside India where no "X GPT" site ranks first yet. Tarot, BaZi, Zi Wei Dou Shu, auspicious dates and dream interpretation in local languages all qualify.

Who it's not for: anyone who wants to go after the Vedic astrology keywords in India head-on, like "kundli gpt" and "ai astrologer." That space is already taken by it and a pile of sites copying it, and Reva and Astrotalk are buying app installs there. People who can code but can't write content aren't a fit either: the moat here is pages and backlinks, not the model.

How to build it: a web product, not an app. Users can ask a few questions before signing up. Chart calculations use deterministic algorithms, like astronomical ephemerides, and AI only handles the interpretation, because the thing users and rivals complain about most is "the AI got the chart wrong." Sell coins, charged per use, no subscription. Price it against what local human astrologers charge, and accept the payment methods locals actually use.

How to get traffic: first roll out free tool pages: a daily panchang, auspicious dates, a birth-date calculator, a name-based naming page. One page a day, catching long-tail search and festival traffic. Then send people from the tool pages into the paid AI chat. Allow AI crawlers in robots.txt to earn citations in ChatGPT search and Google AI summaries. If nobody in the local market owns the "local term + GPT/AI" name yet, claim it first.

When to start: tool pages need at least 3–6 months to get indexed and ranked, so the best time to start is about six months before the next festival or auspicious-date peak in the target market (inference). In India, the window closes before the 2027 July festival season, when it and the copycat sites will lock in their positions even harder.

What would show I got it wrong: ① its global rank falls back beyond 500k by winter 2026, which would mean the summer jump was just festival season and programmatic pages can't hold traffic; ② Google or ChatGPT starts answering "AI reads kundli" directly in search results, and natural traffic to these sites shrinks along with it; ③ the other way around: if copycat sites like kundligpt.online keep climbing, it means the "category term + GPT" name alone can capture traffic, and grabbing names like this in other languages is worth more than I estimated.

How KundliGPT (kundligpt.com) took off

Research date 2026-11-07. Data sources: our traffic library (Tranco rank_day, CrUX crux_domain), googleplay library, metaads library; kundligpt.com pages and sitemap (crawled 2026-11-07); Google Play listing; Semrush public overview page (updated 2026-10-11, September data); Brave India search results; Jina / Exa search; Wayback snapshots; Tracxn; x-radar (no results).

One line

KundliGPT is a web-based AI Vedic astrologer: users enter their birth time and place, the site computes a kundli (birth chart), then the AI answers questions about career, marriage, and money based on the chart. It supports 15 languages and charges per use in coins. It's a site that went viral overnight in India during the ChatGPT wave of August 2023, and it grabbed the name "kundli gpt." Three years later, that name itself has become a search term Indian users type when looking for AI astrology (Semrush: 74k monthly searches in India, and it ranks #1). In 2026 it turned the site into a programmatic SEO site with over 3,000 panchang, muhurat, and calculator pages, feeding growth from its "brand term + AI astrology" organic traffic. It runs no paid acquisition, has two people, and has raised no funding.

1. Data

  • Tranco (traffic.rank_day): 2026-07-30 was 794,663,08-13, 549,192,08-27 was 295,123,09-10, 216,243 was 21.5; it then stayed flat around 220–11-05k (215,395). The entire jump happened from mid-August to early September, and it stopped rising after September.
  • CrUX (traffic.crux_domain): globally, 2026-05 and 06 sit in the top 500k, and 07 rose to the top 100k, with 08 and 09 holding steady; in India, 05–09 has stayed in the top 50k; in September, Indonesia and Italy entered the top 1M for the first time. Tranco itself blends in CrUX, and the July CrUX data was published around mid-August, which lines up with Tranco's jump. So Tranco's ×3.7 mostly reflects real user numbers stepping up a tier in July. The plateau after September suggests growth didn't keep accelerating.
  • Semrush estimates (public overview page, updated 2026-10-11): monthly visits July 540k, August 668k, September 476k; the Semrush June page recorded 357k (srush mirror, 2026-07-13). That's roughly 50% growth from June to July, peaking in August, then declining in September. Global rank 95,992, India rank 7,432. 85% of traffic comes from India, followed by the US at 3.7% and Bangladesh at 2.6%. 84% is mobile. Average visit duration 7 min 13 sec. Sources: Google organic search 60.3%, direct 35.7%. Another third-party tool, Probedex, estimates about 600k monthly visits (2026-09).
  • App traffic is tiny: the Google Play listing for com.kundligpt.mapp shows "1K+ downloads, first version"; the iPhone version says "coming soon." Our googleplay library doesn't have this app. Almost all traffic is on the web.
  • Team: Tracxn lists it as founded in 2023, headquartered in Mumbai, unfunded, with 2 employees, founded by Raj Sutariya and Ankit Vaghasiya. Raj is an NIT alum and a machine learning engineer who worked in Germany (Firstpost).

2. Competitors

Indian astrology is a huge market. The big players all use a "human astrologers billed per minute" model, and over the past year they've all added AI. From 2025–2026, a wave of "AI astrology" apps and sites appeared.

3. Growth tactics

  1. Brand term = category term (confirmed). Semrush lists its top India keyword as "kundli gpt" (74,000 monthly searches, ranked #1, 27.2% of its organic traffic), followed by "kundali gpt" (18,100, ranked #1,6.65%) and "kundli gpt ai" (4,400). The people searching may not be looking for this brand specifically; they're more likely looking for a "GPT that can read a kundli." In India, the more ChatGPT spreads, the more this term gets searched, and the site registered the name 2023 years ago. Searching in Brave's India results, "kundli gpt" and "free ai kundli reading" rank it #1 and #2; "vedic astrology ai chatbot" ranks it #1; "ai astrologer free" ranks it #2.
  2. Domain authority from the 2023 media wave (confirmed). In August 2023, Decrypt (syndicated via Yahoo Finance), Firstpost, Mint, India TV, and IndiaAI (an Indian government platform) all covered "AI astrology / AI Baba"; the founder posted "Introducing KundliGPT.com" on X (@_raj_s_). Semrush now records 2.31K backlinks for it, with an authority score of 39. New entrants in the category will struggle to get that kind of authority quickly.
  3. Programmatic SEO (confirmed, but the payoff is mainly in long-tail keywords). The sitemap includes: 3,020 panchang pages (English and Hindi, running day by day from 2024 to 2027), 224 festival pages, 120 muhurat pages, and 452 other pages (222 of them in Hindi, /hi/). There are also 47 calculators, baby-name pages for each zodiac sign, "KundliGPT vs AstroSage / Co-Star / Clickastro" comparison pages, and "alternatives" pages. Semrush shows "d9 chart calculator" among its long-tail keywords (9,900, ranking #1). robots.txt explicitly allows GPTBot and ChatGPT-User, with the comment "for AI SEO visibility", meaning it wants AI search to cite it too.
  4. Paid ads: no evidence. Our metaads library has no kundli-related advertisers, and recall found no matching ads. Semrush's traffic breakdown shows only organic search and direct visits. This conclusion only goes as far as "not seen", not "confirmed not running".
  5. Social: very weak. About 1.4K Facebook followers, only 2 Trustpilot reviews, and no relevant tweets on x-radar in the past year. On YouTube there are some third-party "How to use Kundli GPT" tutorials, left over from the 2023 buzz.

4. Why traffic took off in 2026 July

  • The timing of the spike is clear: the CrUX global tier went from the top 500k to the top 100k in July; Semrush visits were 357k in June, 540k in July, and 668k in August.
  • The causes can only be guessed at (unverified):
    • (a) A product revamp. In 2026-02's Wayback snapshots, the homepage still said "Go Pro subscription, unlimited questions"; now it's 3 free questions, 30 coins, pay-per-use, plus lots of tool pages, which suggests the site was rebuilt in the first half of 2026. I couldn't find the launch date.
    • (b) Indian festival season. From 7 to October covers Shravan, Raksha Bandhan, Ganesh Chaturthi and Navratri, so demand for muhurat and panchang naturally rises.
    • (c) Search volume for the phrase "kundli gpt" itself is rising, tied to ChatGPT's spread in India.
  • It fell back to 476k in September, and Tranco has flattened at 215k, suggesting it stepped up and then plateaued rather than kept exploding.

5. Why users are willing to pay

  • Pricing is anchored to human astrologers: the pricing page says "one live astrologer consultation $25+, here $21.99 gets you 250 questions". Indian users can pay via Razorpay with UPI and net banking.
  • There's a lot that's free: guests can ask 3 questions without signing up, and chart generation, panchang and 36-point compatibility matching are all free, lowering the barrier to first use. The paywall sits on "questions" and "reports": 10 coins per question, 15 coins per question with the Love/Career experts, 151 coins and up for reports like Manglik/Dasha, 251 coins for the full Kundli, and 24 hours of unlimited chat for 151 coins.
  • There's no subscription. This sidesteps Indian users' dislike of auto-renewal, and is probably why it moved away from the 2026-02 subscription model (inferred).
  • Revenue: no public data, and I haven't seen anyone share numbers.

6. Differentiation

  • The real difference is just the name and being first. "KundliGPT" is exactly the term users type when searching. Functionally (calculate the chart first, then have an LLM interpret it, multilingual, pay per use) it's nearly identical to hiastro, astroma, kundaliai and Melooha. kundaligpt.ai even says on its homepage "calculate first, then interpret; don't let chatbots do the math", treating KundliGPT as the target.
  • The difference in format: web + search. The big players, and Reva and AskPandit, which entered 2026 years ago, all buy ads to drive app installs; KundliGPT relies almost entirely on Google organic traffic, so its costs are low enough for two people to sustain.
  • That difference is why it got where it is: branded searches bring in over 27% of organic traffic, and most of the rest is direct, likely from users who have been around since 2023 or who remember the name.

7. How many people have seen it, and whether anyone is copying it

  • Visibility: it's well known inside the small "AI astrology" circle. At least 5 sites are doing SEO off its name: kundaliai.com has "KundliGPT Alternatives 2026" (2026-08-07), kundliai.app has "KundliAI vs KundliGPT" (2026-08-08), vedicastrogpt.com has "Kundli GPT vs Vedic AstroGPT" (2026-05), and steer.coach and rakatarot.com have reviews. But its revenue isn't public, and there's been no new discussion on X or in mainstream tech press in 2026 years, so it's a "whispered about in a small circle" product.
  • Copycat and name-squatting sites: kundligpt.online (page 2026-08-02 updated, top 1M in CrUX India, claims review by the AskGanesha founder), kundligpt.net (claims "free unlimited", updated 2026-11-01), kundaligpt.in, kundaligpt.ai, com.kundli.gpt on Play, plus kundliai.app and kundaliai.com. Everyone copying it is competing for its brand term.

8. What others can borrow

  • In the early days of a new tech wave, register names of the form "category + GPT/AI". Users treat them as generic search terms, so whoever is first keeps collecting the organic traffic the name generates for a long time. This trick works in other verticals too, e.g. "X GPT" in local languages.
  • In a big market where everyone is buying ads for apps, you can build "web + search + free guest trial with no sign-up". 84% of Indian users browse on mobile, and a web page lets them ask right away with nothing to install, which shortens the conversion path.
  • Catch long-tail traffic with free tool pages (panchang, muhurat, calculators), then monetize with AI chat. Pay per use with coins, no subscription, pricing anchored to human consultants.
  • Build out pages in Hindi and regional languages. 222 Hindi pages, plus answers in 15 languages.

9. Still unclear

  • The specific reasons traffic took off in 2026 July, including the revamp's launch date and whether it's being cited by Google AI Overviews or ChatGPT search, are unverified.
  • Paid conversion and revenue are completely unknown. Semrush shows a fairly long average session of 7 minutes, but the share of paying users is unclear.
  • Whether it has run Google search ads: our googleads only tracks advertisers on our list, so no match doesn't mean none ran.
  • Whether Sunrasofttech (an outsourcing firm selling "AI astrology app source code") has any link to KundliGPT: recall raised it, but I found no direct evidence this time.
  • Semrush's estimates carry large error bars, so use them only for trends.
