# Russian kids who can't buy the real game, and a Minecraft launcher that sells "not a virus" as its feature

**What it is** A free Minecraft launcher you can play with just a nickname, without buying the game. It has chests, skins, friends and free servers, and makes money from memberships, cosmetics and server hosting.

**Why it took off** Russians can't buy the official game, old pirate launchers have a bad reputation, and Millida pitched itself as open-source, signed and "not a virus." From late September, a batch of Russian-language TikTok creators pushed it together, and creators get 50% of what players spend.

**B** **How you could follow** If you have a channel into some non-English Minecraft community, switch to that language market and build a trustworthy offline launcher. Put creator-code revenue share in from day one, and sign up a batch of local mid-tier creators.

Grade B: the opportunity is real, and the language markets are still empty. But you need a player community and creator channels first, the product is a lot of work, and there's risk in offline play that gets around official account verification and minors paying money. Millida itself is going global. Whispers in small circles

Global rank 51k · 90 days ago 224k

Millida is a Russian Minecraft services company. In August 2026 it launched a free, open-source launcher that lets you play with just a nickname, without buying the game. It's built like a mobile game lobby, with chests, battle passes, skins and friends. In late September it seeded a batch of creator videos on Russian-language TikTok, and its website went from rank ~220k to ~51k globally in 90 days. The playbook is clear: make a must-have tool from a gray area look safe, then give creators half the revenue, with server hosting and cosmetics doing the monetizing. The whole approach is worth copying. To build one yourself, the bar is having a player community first.

### 27 video from Sep

On September 27 2026, a Russian-language TikTok Minecraft account with 53k followers, andrew_craft1, posted a video captioned: "Minecraft по-новому: друзья, сборки, моды, ИИ и бесплатный сервер — всё в одном лаунчере!" (Minecraft, reimagined: friends, modpacks, mods, AI and a free server, all in one launcher!) By early November the post had 626k views.

Over the next two weeks, the same script and the same hashtags (#Millida #Миллида #MillidaLauncher) showed up across a string of accounts: sneyptt posted "I found the best Minecraft launcher" in Oct 1, 430k views; fitail23 posted "Millida launcher is now on mobile" in Oct 9, 380k; comphead (260k followers) posted in Oct 17, 337k; and one video titled "Is Millida a virus? Let's check" got 230k. It's clearly one paid push.

The videos drove downloads. The launcher ships public releases on GitHub. Before Oct 6, each release had only a few dozen downloads. The signed installer posted in Oct 13 alone was downloaded 100,016 times (GitHub, 11-07). Across all release assets, that's about 416k downloads, including auto-updates.

### What it is

One account runs several products:

- **Launcher** (Windows / macOS / Linux, Android in testing): you can sign in with an official Microsoft account, or play offline with just a nickname. Mods pull straight from the Modrinth and CurseForge catalogs, about 28k items. There's also an AI called Milli that assembles a modpack from one sentence, and can help diagnose a crash.

- **Mobile-style lobby** : capes, wings, pets, chests, battle passes, friends, voice chat. One creator called it "Brawl Stars, but for the launcher."

- **Server hosting** : there's a free tier, which like Aternos goes to sleep and has a queue. Paid tiers start at 389 rubles (US$5.49) a month. You send a friend an invite link, they click "Play," and the launcher automatically installs the matching version and joins the server.

- **Legacy business** : custom skins (from US$12.5), a server ranking list, a mod site. The brand is 2021 years old, and the YouTube channel @millida was opened 2021 years ago, now with 25k subscribers.

The launcher itself is free. Money comes from a few places: the PLUS subscription (299 rubles/month, Diamond tier 539 rubles/month), a "ruby" virtual currency for cosmetics (without PLUS, chests only drop fragments), paid modpacks from creators, and hosting. Revenue is not public.

### Why now

**Russian players can't buy the real game, so pirate launchers are a must-have.** Since 2022, Minecraft has not been sold officially in Russia, and players have used offline launchers like TLauncher. TLauncher has had a bad reputation for a long time. Malwarebytes flags it as a potentially unwanted program (PUP), and since 2023 there have been ongoing claims that it carries spyware. In 2026, from 5 to June, rumors that "Minecraft will be banned in Russia" kept resurfacing, and Roskomnadzor denied them three times in six months (3dnews 05-12, vesti 06-03). Players were uneasy and wanted to switch to something they'd dare install.

**It makes "safe" the selling point.** The website has a whole "Security" page, and the first line is "Do we steal your license? No." Below, it lists items one by one: the installer carries a GlobalSign EV signature, VirusTotal 0/75 (the page says detection was checked in Nov 6), the code is public on GitHub (GPL-3.0), and what telemetry collects and doesn't collect is spelled out. The first FAQ question is "Is Millida Launcher a virus?" Its own channel even runs reverse-psychology titles like "This launcher is dangerous." For an audience scared by pirate-software viruses, that works better than any feature.

**Mobile-style design gives short videos something to show.** A traditional launcher only gives you a settings screen to film. Millida has unboxing, battle passes, an AI that builds a modpack in a minute, and one-click joining with friends, and each can be cut into a 15-second clip. Its users are mainly kids aged 10 to 15 (inferred from video content and comments), and that's exactly who scrolls TikTok.

**The old sites are falling, and it's rising.** Over the same 90 days, nearly all the established Russian-language sites trended down: tlauncher.org dropped from global rank 13,436 to 15,906, the mod site minecraft-inside.ru from 8,126 to 15,970, and the hosting site minerent.net from ~109k to ~240k (Tranco, 11-05). Millida climbed from ~224k to ~51k, up 30x in 1.7 days, and is still gaining roughly a thousand places a day. It's likely drawing users away from these older sites (inferred).

### Where users come from

**Creators, and creators get paid a share.** The launcher has an "author code": when a player enters a creator's code, the creator gets 50% of that player's future cosmetic spending, and the first code entry gives a rare chest. The YouTube video description literally reads "КОД АВТОРА: WONKE" (AUTHOR CODE: WONKE). Hosting has a separate affiliate program, where PRO partners earn 50% on the first order and on renewals, with the customer permanently attributed. So creators aren't a one-off deal. The more they push, the more they earn each month. How much of the creator content is paid promotion, and at what rate, isn't visible from outside.

**Owned content.** @millida has posted one or two Russian short videos almost every day since Oct 20, each with 5k to 40k views. The launcher README points bug reports to a Discord called "MINECRAFT RU" with about 158k members. A follower can't copy either of these in the short term.

**Refer friends.** Invite 1 / 5 / 10 friends (the friend must play for two hours to count), and get 3 / 14 / 30 days of PLUS.

**SEO on competitors.** The site has pages like "Migrate from TLauncher," "Compared with Aternos," "Realms alternative," "Play Java Edition on Android," and "Best launcher rankings." The homepage even lists misspellings like Милида, Мелида, Milida, Millda, catching typo searches too. How much traffic this brings in is unverified.

**No paid acquisition seen.** No ads from it turned up in the Meta Ad Library (a miss doesn't mean it isn't running ads), and zero mentions on X in 90 days.

Ratings inside the launcher rose from 12,352 to 19,775 reviews over three-plus weeks, at 4.77 stars (official site, compared with mid-October 11-07). The most recent reviews from Nov 7 include lines like "Bahut achcha launcher hai" (Hindi: great launcher). In real Chrome user data for several European countries, the UK, Poland and Turkey all newly entered the global top 500k around September. But almost all the content is in Russian, so these numbers likely reflect Russian users routing through VPNs (inferred). The Indian reviews do show English-speaking users are already using it.

### Who it's competing with

| Competitors | Global rank (Tranco, 11-05; in parentheses, rank 90 days ago) | How it differs from Millida |
|---|---|---|
| TLauncher | 15,906 (13,436), declining | The Russian-language leader. It also works offline, but has long carried the reputation of "installing it is a virus." Millida wrote a migration guide for it. |
| Legacy Launcher | 146,696 (121,894), declining | Pure tool, no social features, hosting or cosmetics |
| SKLauncher | 62,894(58,219) | Offline launcher from Europe / Poland, just a tool |
| Prism Launcher | 69,242(63,532) | Open-source and geek-oriented, official accounts only |
| The official Modrinth / CurseForge apps | 3,278 / 972 | Much bigger, requires the official game. Millida plugs their catalogs in directly. |
| Lunar Client / Feather | 13,395 / 173,252(52,900) | Also sells cosmetics, but requires the official game and leans PvP |
| Aternos | 1,396 | The biggest free host. Millida's free tier nearly copies it, with the advantage of being tied to the launcher and upgradable to paid tiers directly. |

Plenty of products do the same thing, and most are bigger. But in the Russian-language market, it's the only one combining offline play, a safe look, social features, cosmetics and free servers.Pull out any single piece, and someone else does it better.

It isn't free of controversy. On LibriumHub, a Russian review site, it has only 2.5 (18 reviews), and "safety and trust" scores 1.9. Criticism centers on a few things: it's too tied to its own ecosystem ("I open the launcher to play the game, not to scroll through a server list you can't delete"); it charges for modpacks that used to be free; the interface looks like a mobile game and eats memory; and some people have dug up the company's old history. Russian-language YouTube also has investigative series titled things like "The full truth about Millida."

### How many people have seen it

Russian Minecraft communities are talking about it, but almost nobody outside knows: no English-language media coverage, almost no Reddit discussion, zero mentions on X in 90 days, and just 539 stars on GitHub (11-07). We also haven't found anyone copying it.

### If it were you

**One-line verdict** : the playbook is real, and it works in Russian-speaking markets. But it was built by a company that already had a player community, a hosting business and an established brand. For one person or a small team to copy the whole thing is heavy. The most worthwhile move is to switch language markets and build only the "trustworthy offline launcher + author code" piece.

**Who it suits** : people already active in a non-English Minecraft community. For example, if you have a Discord with tens of thousands of members, a small hosting business, or know a group of local Minecraft creators. The Portuguese (Brazil), Spanish, Hindi / English (India) and Indonesian markets have just as many kids and just as expensive an official game, and TLauncher's reputation is just as bad there (inferred: competitors not checked market by market).

**Who it doesn't suit** : developers with no player channel who just want to publish a tool online. The launcher itself isn't worth much. Open-source launchers like Prism can be forked and modified. What's valuable is creators willing to promote it and kids willing to pay, and you have to build both yourself. It's also not for people who are wary of legal risk: offline play bypasses official account verification, and most paying users are minors, so payments, refunds and platform bans can all come up.

**How to do it:**

1. Take an open-source launcher (Prism, or Millida's own GPL code, but you have to honor the GPL) and build a localized version. Get the security page right first: an EV code-signing certificate (a few hundred dollars a year), a VirusTotal report, a public repo, and a telemetry list. Make the first FAQ entry "Is it a virus?"

2. Ship one thing that can be filmed first, like unboxing cosmetics or one-click join with friends. Don't launch the whole stack at once.

3. Put author codes live on day one and give creators 30% to 50% of revenue, so they have a reason to push every week.

4. Write a set of pages that use competitor names as titles: "TLauncher alternative", "Aternos vs". Write them in the local language.

**How to get users** : Find Minecraft TikTok / YouTube Shorts creators in the local language with 10k to 300k followers. Give them a shared script and tags, and onboard 20 to 30 at once instead of betting on one or two big accounts. The top-performing video in Millida's first batch came from an account with 53k followers.

**Why act now** : Millida already has an English site and English README, YouTube auto-dubbing is on, and Indian users are leaving comments. It is expanding. Once it brings the author-code setup to English and Hindi markets, you'll be competing with it for creators. To do this, sign the first few dozen creators in one language market before the first half of 2027.

**Signs you're wrong** : A month after author codes launch, local creators won't keep promoting, or they promote and nobody enters the code. That would mean kids in that market don't pay, or TLauncher isn't as hated there. If Mojang / Microsoft start acting against offline launchers (takedowns, legal letters, blocking offline accounts on servers), this whole path closes.

## millida.net (Millida) research report

> Data date: 2026-11-07. Tranco / CrUX come from our traffic library; GitHub numbers come from the GitHub API and the github library; TikTok from TikHub search; YouTube from the YouTube Data API.

### One line

Millida is a Russian Minecraft services company (the brand has existed since 2021, registered to "ИП Веселов Никита Николаевич"). It originally ran a skin studio, server hosting, and a server ranking list. In August 2026 it released a new open-source launcher (Millida Launcher v2, Tauri 2 + React, GPL-3.0) that lets users play offline with a nickname instead of a paid account. It then seeded a large number of creator videos on Russian TikTok / YouTube Shorts, which drove traffic across the whole site. The launcher is free. Revenue comes from "mobile-game-style" chest opening, battle passes, skins, PLUS subscriptions, and server hosting.

### 1. Data: how much it grew

- **Tranco** : 2026-07-30 rank 243,498 → 08-06 rank 223,845 → 09-03 rank 106,019 → 10-01 rank 96,589 → 11-05 rank 51,008. It grew 4.4x in 90 days and 1.74x in 30 days, and still moves up about 1,000 places per day (traffic library `traffic domain millida.net`).

- **CrUX** : Global tier 2026-07 in the top 1M. In 08 and 09 it was top 500k. DE and NL have been in the top 2026-06k since 500. GB and PL entered the top 07k from 500 to August. TR newly entered the top 500k in September. ES and IT newly entered in September, and FR has been in the top 1M since August (traffic library).

- **Launcher downloads** : Total downloads across all GitHub release assets are about 416k (including repeat downloads from auto-update). The signed installer `setup-signed-1` (released 2026-10-13) alone has 100,016 downloads. Before 10-06, each version had only a few dozen downloads; after 10-11, single versions reached thousands to tens of thousands. The inflection point was October 10–13 (GitHub API, pulled 2026-11-07).

- **In-launcher ratings** : The official security page in mid-October said "12,352 ratings / 4.79 score" (the page listed 207 GitHub stars at the time). It now says "19,772 ratings / 4.77 score" (538 GitHub stars). That's roughly 7,400 new ratings in about three weeks (millida.net/launcher/bezopasnost and /en/launcher, two page versions captured via Exa).

- **GitHub** : millida/launcher was created 2026-08-01 and now has 538 stars. It gained 7 stars in the last 116 days, with a single-day peak of 27 stars. No suspicious flags (github library). The star count is small. Its users are players, not developers.

- **Own YouTube channel @millida** (opened 2021-08, 25.1k subscribers, 2.55M total views): Videos resumed 2026-08-09. From 10-20 it posted nearly daily, 1–2 Russian short videos, each getting 5k–40k views (YouTube Data API).

### II. Competitors

| Product | Type | Scale (Tranco 2026-11-05; in parentheses is the rank 90 days ago) | How it differs from Millida |
|---|---|---|---|
| TLauncher(tlauncher.org) | Russian-speaking market's top pirate launcher | 15,906 (13,436), declining | Also supports offline nicknames, but Malwarebytes and others tag it as PUP, and it has a long-standing reputation for being "a virus." Millida leads with EV signing + open source + VirusTotal 0/75, and even wrote a "migrate from TLauncher" guide. |
| Legacy Launcher(legacylauncher.ru) | Russian offline launcher | 146,696 (121,894), declining | Single-purpose. No social features, hosting, or chest opening. |
| SKLauncher(skmedix.pl) | Offline launcher (Western / Polish) | 62,894(58,219) | Just a tool |
| Prism Launcher | Open-source multi-instance launcher | 69,242(63,532) | Geek-oriented, premium-only, with no social or monetization. Millida is also open source, but its UI is a mobile-game lobby. |
| Modrinth App / CurseForge App | Launcher for an official mod platform | modrinth.com 3,278;curseforge.com 972 | Much larger, but requires a paid account. Millida pulls both catalogs (about 28k items) directly into its launcher. |
| Lunar Client / Feather | PvP client with skin cosmetics | lunarclient 13,395; feathermc 173,252 (52,900), falling | Also earns from cosmetics, but requires a paid account and leans PvP. |
| Aternos | Free hosting | 1,396 | The free tier is nearly copied (it sleeps and has queues). Millida's difference is that its paid tier sits right alongside, upgrades seamlessly, and is integrated with the launcher (invite links join a server in one click). |
| Russian hosting / ranking sites: minerent.net, minecraftrating.ru, hotmc.ru, mcskill.net | Hosting, server rankings | All falling (minerent 109,453→240,423; minecraftrating 162,514→222,467) | Millida combines these into one account. |
| minecraft-inside.ru | Russian mod / asset sites | 8,126→15,970, falling | Millida has its own mod catalog, plus an AI one-line modpack builder (Milli) |
| PojavLauncher / Amethyst, Zalith, FCL | Running Java Edition on Android | zalithlauncher.com about 840k users | Millida Mobile (beta) goes straight after them with comparison pages |

Verdict: lots of products do the same thing, and most of them are bigger. But in the Russian-speaking world, it's the only one that combines offline play + looking safe + social features and cosmetics + free servers. At the same time, the veteran Russian sites are almost all declining while it rises, most likely pulling users from the TLauncher / minecraft-inside crowd.

### 3. Where users come from

1. **Russian TikTok creator flooding (confirmed, main channel)** . Searching TikHub for millida / миллида turns up dozens of Russian short videos from late September to early November, all in a very uniform format: "I found the best launcher", "Is Millida a virus? Let's check it out", "AI builds my modpack in a minute", "free servers to play with friends". The tags are nearly identical (#Millida #Миллида #MillidaLauncher), clearly the same campaign. The ones with higher views:
    - andrew_craft1 (53k followers) 09-27.6M views
    - sneyptt (37k followers) 10-1.43M views
    - fitail23 10-09 "mobile version is here", 382k views
    - comphead (261k followers) 10-17.3M views
    - ndendenka 10-17 "exposing Millida", 233k views
    - flugel.tt 09-29.2M views
    - gorikua_ofc 10-02 "AI builds modpacks", 221k views

The release date and the GitHub download inflection around October 10–13 line up.

1. **Creator revenue share program (confirmed)** . The launcher has an "author code": a player enters a creator's code, the creator gets 50% of that player's cosmetic spending, and the player gets a rare crate for entering a code the first time. The YouTube video description literally says "КОД АВТОРА: WONKE". Hosting and the store have a separate affiliate program: for PRO partners, both first orders and renewals pay 50%, with the customer permanently attributed; regular members get 15% on first orders and 7.5% on renewals (millida.net/en/docs/launcher/creator-code, /en/partner). This design makes creators want to push it repeatedly; it is itself the growth engine.

2. **Owned content matrix (confirmed)** : the @millida YouTube channel posts short videos daily; the millida67 TikTok account (469 followers) has single posts reaching 100k views; plus older channels like Millida Skins. There's also the Discord "MINECRAFT RU" (discord.gg/mcru, about 158k members, roughly 8,900 online), and the launcher README points error reports directly to this Discord (Discord API invite data).

3. **Old brand + legacy business funneling users (confirmed)** : the skin studio, hosting (VK group vk.ru/millidahosting), and server rankings (they even built a Millida Rating plugin on Modrinth for server owners) all date back 2021 years. CrUX shows DE and NL were already in the top 500k 2026-06 (before the new launcher).

4. **SEO (confirmed as active)** : the site has lots of pages on "best launcher rankings", "free launcher", "TLauncher alternative / migration", "Aternos comparison", "Realms alternative", "playing Java Edition on Android". The homepage even lists misspelled versions of the name (Милида, Мелида, Milida, Millda) to catch misspelled searches. How much this helps is unverified.

5. **Viral invites (mechanism confirmed, effect unverified)** : `?ref=` invite links; inviting 1 / 5 / 10 friends earns 3 / 14 / 30 days of PLUS and crates; server invite links millida.net/j/<server> let a friend click "Play" and automatically install the matching version.

6. **Paid ads** : our Meta ad library finds nothing (this library only tracks advertisers on its list, so no result doesn't mean no spend), and X has zero mentions in 90 days. There is no evidence it buys paid traffic.

### IV. Why it took off now

- **Timing** : Russians have been unable to buy genuine Minecraft since 2022, so pirate launchers are a necessity. The market leader TLauncher has a bad reputation (flagged as PUP, with spyware accusations since 2023), and in 2026 and June 5 there were repeated rumors that "Minecraft will be blocked in Russia" (Roskomnadzor denied it three times in half a year, see 3dnews 2026-05-12, vesti 2026-06-03). Players feel uneasy and want to switch to a launcher that "looks safe". Millida's selling points are almost all aimed at this: EV signing, open source, VirusTotal 0/75, an official site that explicitly says "we don't steal accounts", and its own channel posting reverse-title videos like "this launcher is dangerous".

- **Product** : it turns the launcher into a mobile-game lobby (a creator said "they made the launcher into Brawl Stars"): skins, wings, pets, battle passes, crates, friends, voice chat, AI modpack building. The target users are Russian-speaking kids aged 10–15, which is rare in the launcher category and easy to turn into short-video content.

- **Distribution** : creator codes paying 50% plus uniformly styled short-video campaigns, rolled out in bulk from late September. Around 10-10 to 10-13, GitHub installer downloads jumped from dozens per release to thousands or tens of thousands, and the Tranco ranking then accelerated.

- **Monetization loop** : the launcher is free; money comes from PLUS (299 / 539 rubles per month), ruby cosmetics, paid modpacks, hosting (from 389 rubles / 5.49 USD per month), custom skins (from 12.5 USD), and server donation shops. Free hosting is the hook that pulls people into paid hosting.

- **Discount the CrUX rises in European countries** : the content is almost entirely Russian. Russia itself is not among CrUX's 21 countries, and many Russian users run VPNs, so their exit nodes often appear in DE, NL, GB, PL, TR. So the "new entries" in GB / PL / TR are likely Russian users' VPN exits, not real breakthroughs into English or European markets (inference, unverified). The English site and English README already exist, and YouTube has auto-dubbing enabled, which suggests it is actually preparing to go global.

### 5. Differentiation

- Compared with pirate launchers like TLauncher: **it also plays offline, but is made credible** (open source, EV signing, public telemetry docs).

- Compared with genuine / enthusiast tools like Prism and Modrinth: **it plays offline, and adds social features and cosmetics** .

- Compared with Aternos: **free servers bundled with the launcher** , friends join with one click, and you can upgrade seamlessly to a paid tier.

Stacked together, these three points explain the breakout: credibility solves "dare I install it", social plus cosmetics give creators something to film and a share to earn, and hosting collects the money. Taken one at a time, each point has bigger competitors who do it better.

### 6. How many people have seen it

- Revenue is not public; zero mentions on X; almost no discussion in English media or on Reddit (only one r/SmallYoutubers thread asking "is this sponsor legit?", with the body blocked by a captcha, unverified whether it is about Millida).

- Russian-speaking communities have already been discussing it: TikTok has several "exposé" videos, YouTube has a "Millida: The Whole Truth" series (Алмер made a company history 3 years ago; QIN0TRBLu6k's "final investigation"), and the third-party review site LibriumHub gives it 2.5 points from 18 reviews, criticizing it for heavy lock-in to its own ecosystem, charging for free bundles, and an interface that looks like a mobile game.

- Verdict: **it is being talked about in the small Russian Minecraft community** , and almost nobody outside that circle knows it.

- Copycats: no obvious direct copies found.

### 7. What others can learn

- Making a pirate or gray-area essential tool into a "credible" version (open source + signing + antivirus detection reports), then selling "safety" itself as the marketing hook.

- Turning the tool into a mobile-game-style lobby, monetized through cosmetics, crates, and battle passes; the creator code pays 50%, giving creators their own reason to push it repeatedly.

- A free tool as the entry point, followed by a high-ticket service (hosting), with accounts connected across the whole site.

- Using competitors as SEO landing pages: "TLauncher migration", "Aternos comparison", "Realms alternative", "PojavLauncher alternative".

### 8. What's still uncertain

- Real user count and revenue (the official site claims 300k cumulative downloads, from a recall card, unverified; GitHub asset downloads about 416k, including auto-updates).

- Whether all creator videos are paid, and at what rate.

- How much of the CrUX rise in European countries is VPN exits.

- How much traffic is website versus launcher: launcher updates, telemetry, and skin assets all go through subdomains of millida.net, and Tranco merges by main domain, so some rankings may come from the launcher's own requests. However, CrUX reflects real Chrome visits, which shows the website itself also gets real human traffic.
