# A 13-year-old Swedish secondhand app, turned into a live auction before Whatnot arrived

**What it is** An established Swedish secondhand clothing app that added Whatnot-style live auctions this year: sellers go live, and viewers bid in real time in the chat to grab items.

**Why it took off** Whatnot and TikTok Shop had not yet entered Sweden, so it filled the gap. Starting in October it recruited a group of Swedish influencers and physical shops to host live sessions, which lifted engagement from existing users and pulled in some new ones.

**C** **How you could follow it** In small-language markets where Whatnot and TikTok Shop aren't yet live, add live bidding to an existing secondhand, trading card or streetwear community that already has inventory and users, and cold-start it with influencer wardrobe-clearing sessions and store-hosted sessions.

Grade C: the mechanic is copyable, but Plick's edge is the inventory and users it built over 13 years. Starting from zero means cold-starting buyers, sellers and payments all at once, and the window closes once Whatnot or TikTok Shop show up. Circulating in small circles

Global rank 135k · 90 days ago 348k

Plick is a Swedish second-hand clothing app that has run for 13 years, never really taking off, and still losing money. This autumn it did one thing: renamed itself "Buy & sell live", paid a batch of Swedish influencers to stream inside the app and auction off their own wardrobes. Since October, traffic has been falling on other Swedish resale platforms, and only Plick keeps climbing. What's worth watching is how it grabbed this gap. If you want to copy it, the hard part is the stock and users it already has.

### Nov 7 live schedule

Open plick.se/live and Nov 7 lists more than twenty live streams. At midday 12:30 is kids' clothing store Gramenti, 13:30 beauty shop Cue Beauty, 14:30 sneaker resale shop M.Resell, 15:30 sneaker shop Sneakershyllan, and every title carries the same prefix "EVENT 7 nov … @MOS". MOS is Mall of Scandinavia, the big Stockholm mall. Plick ran an all-day in-person event there that day, streamed live.

Between the merchant showcases are regular sellers' sessions: "Min första live" (my first live), "Rensar garderoben" (clearing out the closet), "SJUK LIVE MED NYA FETA KLÄDER FÖR SJUKA PRISER SAMT FLERA GWS🔥" (new clothes at crazy prices, plus several giveaway rounds). At 9 p.m. there's another session, "makeup and clothes". Ten-odd more were scheduled the next day.

This schedule is what Plick looks like now: a second-hand clothing platform that has turned selling into a series of timed, hosted, pre-announced live shows.

### What it was before

Plick started in Uppsala in 2013 as a mobile second-hand clothing app and was acquired by Nordic media group Schibsted in 2021. Public company filings show revenue of SEK 38M (about $3.6M) in 2025, up 27% on the year, but a net loss of SEK 14.9M, with 19 employees. Its users skew young men who like streetwear. The Swedish newspaper UNT wrote in May this year that it "gets young boys started buying second-hand".

For years it has lived in Vinted's shadow: both sell second-hand clothes, but Vinted has 269k ratings on the Swedish App Store and Plick has under 30k.

### What changed this year

The website now calls it "Nordens första live auktions app", the Nordics' first live auction app. The app was renamed in both stores: "Plick - Buy & sell live" on Google Play, with the blurb "Fashion, finds and live auctions".

The mechanic copies the US app Whatnot: a seller goes live and shows items one by one, talking through condition and sizing while viewers ask questions in chat. Viewers who want an item drag a green slider to bid, and when the countdown ends the highest bidder wins. Sellers can choose one of two endings: each bid extends the timer by 3, 5 or 10 seconds, or a "skull" mode where the timer ends with no extension. The help page is blunt: **every bid is legally binding and cannot be withdrawn** . Winning bids check out automatically via Swish (the mobile payment app almost everyone in Sweden uses) or card.

Together these features are something no one else offers in the Swedish-language market. Vinted, Sellpy and Tise all sell at fixed prices. Tradera has auctions, but they run for days. Instagram and Facebook can stream, but have no bidding, no checkout and no buyer protection.

### Why now

Mostly because the two strongest rivals haven't arrived yet.

Whatnot is the original of this format. It did $8B in live-stream sales in 2025, but its help page lists seller countries as only Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, France, Germany, Japan, the Netherlands, the UK and the US. Sweden isn't on it. TikTok Shop has opened 11 European countries in stages. A Swedish marketing agency, October, wrote in mid-October that it still hasn't opened in Sweden. eBay acquired Norway's second-hand app Tise late last year, and eBay has live streaming of its own, but it has not yet entered the Nordics (unverified).

Plick is filling this gap, bringing the Whatnot model over with Swedish language, Swish and local shipping.

### Where users come from

Mainly by paying influencers to stream. From October into November, TikTok filled up with videos tagged "Reklam för @plick" and "betalt samarbete" (paid partnership), all saying the same thing: on such-and-such day at such-and-such time, I'm going live on Plick.

- An account called babbissecretvlog posted "I samarbete med Plick" in Oct 2, with 435k views;

- Swedish influencer Hedvig Sjödin held Plick's first live auction on Oct 11. A gossip account turned it into a video with 244k views and 8,600+ likes. Her shop page on Plick and the live page "Hedvig Sjödin LIVE #1" are still up.

- A string of accounts with tens of thousands to over 300,000 followers went live one after another from late October into early November. One, on Nov 2, was already saying "my third live".

The playbook: get influencers to put their own clothes up for auction, with very low starting prices and giveaways in between. Influencers bring their followers into the app, and Plick's official account cuts the funny moments from the streams into clips. The official TikTok account has 16.6k followers. Its Oct 27 post "SNEAKERSHYLLAN X PLICK LIVE" got 316k views but only 60 likes, while its usual videos get a few hundred to a few thousand views. That much reach with that few likes most likely means it was paid promotion (inference).

The other half is merchants. Second-hand chain HUMANA ran all-day streams from its stores in Stockholm, Gothenburg and Malmö. Sneaker and beauty shops ran dedicated sessions on Plick, plus the mall event on Nov 7. The merchants bring their own stock and their own followers, so the platform doesn't have to manage inventory.

Paying influencers isn't new for Plick. In 2021 and 2022 it already ran promo videos saying "buy clothes in my Plick shop". This time it just changed the script to "come watch me live".

### How much it grew

Judging by website rankings alone, growth is huge: plick.se went from ~348k to ~135k in the global site ranking over 90 days and was still moving up every day in early November (data from 11-05). Over the same period vinted.se, sellpy.se and tradera.com 8 rose in September with the back-to-school season, then all fell back after October. Only Plick keeps climbing. So this October stretch isn't seasonal; it's Plick's own doing.

But a few caveats apply:

- Part of that ranking is counted by network requests, and requests from inside the app are also logged under plick.se. In a live stream, chat, bids and notifications generate far more requests per person than browsing products. So a good chunk of the ranking rise may come from **existing users becoming more active** , not new users (inference).

- Install numbers are modest: 352k total installs on Google Play, with roughly 90 new installs a day over the last week. On the Swedish iOS store, ratings rose by only 32 in a week, versus 2,860 for Vinted over the same period (store data, 11-07).

- Chrome's global real-user bucket for the site actually fell in September, from the top 500k to the top 1M.

The money signal is clearer: on the Swedish App Store shopping top-grossing chart it holds steady at #4 to #8, behind the veteran auction site Tradera and ahead of Sellpy and Vinted (App Store, 11-07). Its Google Play in-app purchase is listed at $1.49 each. Live auctions move more transactions into the app where payment happens, and the platform takes a cut (inference).

### Is anyone following it?

No. Almost nobody internationally has covered Plick Live. X search turns up nothing about it in nearly 90 days, and I've seen no second Swedish-language second-hand platform running "live + real-time bidding". Its audience is basically the local Swedish e-commerce crowd.

### If it were you

**Bottom line** : an opportunity that is easy to understand and to copy, but hard to chase. Plick works because of 13 years of accumulated millions of listings, hundreds of thousands of users and a major shareholder; live streaming is just a new layer. Starting from zero means cold-starting buyers, sellers, payments and live video all at once, and you have to beat Whatnot and TikTok Shop to the market.

**Who it fits** : teams that already run a second-hand, collectibles or streetwear community in a smaller language market (a Discord with tens of thousands of members, a Facebook group, a mini-program, a niche forum all count), that have stock and people, and are missing just the live-bidding layer.

**Who it doesn't fit** : a one- or two-person team trying to build a live-auction app from scratch, or anyone planning to launch in the UK, US, Germany, France or the Netherlands, where Whatnot already operates.

**How to do it:**

1. Pick markets where neither Whatnot nor TikTok Shop has opened yet, such as Norway, Denmark, Finland, Poland, the Czech Republic or parts of Southeast Asia. Check Whatnot's help page for its seller-country list first.

2. Don't go broad with fashion. Start with a narrow category: Pokémon cards, sports cards, sneakers or streetwear, where bidding is most exciting and buyers are most loyal.

3. Copying the features is enough: a bid slider, timer extensions, a no-extension "skull" mode, chat, giveaways, binding bids with one-tap local payment. For the video layer, use an existing video cloud rather than building your own.

**How to get users** : take Plick's three moves. Pay local influencers to "clear the closet" in dedicated sessions with low starting prices and giveaways. Recruit physical stores for all-day showcases, where merchants bring their own stock and followers. Have the official account cut each session's best moments into short videos and pay to promote the best few. Every live show has a date and time, which suits advance announcements well.

**How much time you have** : Whatnot has expanded fast in Europe since last year, and TikTok Shop is opening one country at a time. Once they announce seller access in a market, that market's window is basically closed. Estimate roughly 12 months (inference).

**Signs you've misread it** : Plick's ranking stops rising by year-end, installs never really take off, and it drops out of the top 10 on the iOS top-grossing chart. That would mean live streaming only livened up existing users for a while without bringing in new ones. Or if Vinted launches its own live streams, small players have little room left in this layer.

## Plick (plick.se): Sweden's 13-year-old No. 2 secondhand fashion app, which pushed its ranking up this autumn with "influencer live auctions"

**In short** : Plick is a secondhand fashion marketplace from Uppsala, Sweden (founded 2013, Schibsted-controlled since 2021). In 2026 it refocused the product on in-app live auctions, "Plick Live" (tagline: "Nordens första live auktions app", the Nordics' first live auction app). plick.se's Tranco rank rose from 348k to 135k over 90 days (×2.6). The ranking jump lines up in time with a wave of paid influencer livestreams and in-mall offline events in October. Most traffic is in the app; the website is product pages and a livestream schedule, used to catch SEO traffic and push people to the app.

### 1. What the data says

**Website ranking (traffic database, Tranco, as of 2026-11-05)**

| Date | plick.se | vinted.se | sellpy.se | tradera.com | tise.com |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 08-06 | 348,015 | 27,411 | 97,056 | 24,876 | 118,570 |
| 09-17 | 291,362 | 17,546 | 56,972 | 16,293 | 126,328 |
| 10-15 | 175,358 | 14,938 | 45,126 | 19,956 | 165,905 |
| 11-05 | 135,108 | 17,047 | 58,805 | 21,392 | 170,372 |

- From 8 through September several Swedish secondhand platforms rose together, likely from the school year and seasonal wardrobe changes. After October, vinted.se, sellpy.se and tradera.com all fell back; only plick.se kept rising: 10-01 was 235k, 11-05 was 135k, and it keeps creeping up each day (11-01 is 154k, 11-05 is 135k). So the stretch after October isn't industry seasonality; it's Plick's own doing.

- Control: the median change in rank over 90 days for all 2,879 .se domains was ×1.00, and only 3.4% doubled (our own calculation from the traffic database).

- **Take with a grain of salt** : CrUX global tier shows top 2026-05 to August at 500k, but **September actually drops to the top 1M** (traffic.crux_domain). CrUX covers 21 countries and Sweden isn't one of them, so local Swedish traffic is invisible. The card's "Germany moves up" just means it went from the 1M tier back to the 500k tier, which is within noise. Tranco includes DNS-based sources (Umbrella, Cloudflare Radar), and API requests from the app backend and livestream endpoints count toward the plick.se header. Livestreams generate far more requests per user (chat, bids, push), so part of Tranco's sharp rise may reflect **more active users** , not necessarily **new users** .

**App (store data)**

- Google Play (googleplay database): 352,079 installs worldwide cumulative, averaging about +90 per day from 10-29 to 11-07, +586 over 7 days. It only charts on the Swedish Shopping free chart, ranked 28 to 35. 3.4,2015 ratings. The app name is now "Plick - Buy & sell live", the description is "Fashion, finds and live auctions", and in-app purchases are "$1.49 per item".

- App Store (appstore database): the Swedish store has 29,703 ratings (4.67 stars), +32 over 7 days, far behind Vinted's +2,860. **It holds steady at No. 4 to 8 on the Swedish Shopping Top Grossing chart** , behind Tradera and ahead of Sellpy and Vinted. Swedish shopping apps mostly don't rely on in-app purchases, so the bar is lower, but it does show some revenue through Apple's IAP (likely per-item fees for boosted listings, buyer protection and the like). The name has been changed to "Plick - Köp & sälj live", and the description says it covers Sweden and Finland.

- Company financials (allabolag / bolagsfakta / merinfo, public company registry data): revenue of SEK 23.4M in 2023, SEK 29.9M in 2024, SEK 38M in 2025 (+26.9%). Net loss of SEK 14.9M in 2025, EBITDA −SEK 10.7M, EBITDA around −SEK 20M in 2024 (Impact Loop 2025-08-20). 19 employees and 13 shareholders.

- Conclusion: the growth in new app installs is modest. The rise in website ranking comes mostly from **engagement, plus some new users pulled in by influencers** , not from a surge in installs.

### 2. Competitors

| Competitors | Where | Launched | Scale | How Plick differs |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Vinted | iOS / Android / web | 2008 (Lithuania), entered Sweden early | vinted.se Tranco 17k; iOS Sweden 268,805 ratings, +2,860 over 7 days | Europe's largest secondhand fashion platform, fixed prices, no livestreams; it only invested in UK livestream auction Tilt (Tilt raised $26M) |
| Tradera | iOS / Android / web | 1999 years | tradera.com 21k; iOS 105,713 ratings, No. 1 on Swedish Shopping Top Grossing | Sweden's veteran auction site, but with timed auctions running for several days, not livestreams; wide range of categories |
| Sellpy | iOS / Android / web | 2014 (owned by H&M) | sellpy.se 59k; iOS 14,061 ratings | Consignment model (you mail your clothes in and they photograph and list them); no social features or livestreams |
| Blocket | Web / App | 1996 (Vend, formerly Schibsted Marketplaces) | blocket.se 5,759 | A classifieds site selling everything, not focused on fashion social; shares the same major shareholder system as Plick (Schibsted controlled Plick from 2021; current holdings not verified) |
| Tise | iOS / Android | Norway, around 2015 | tise.com 170k and declining; acquired by eBay at the end of 2025 (snapvend) | A social secondhand fashion app with no livestreams |
| Whatnot | iOS / Android / web | 2019 years | whatnot.com 7,240; livestream sales of $8B in 2025 | The original livestream auction platform, but **does not accept Swedish sellers** (the official help page lists only AU/AT/BE/CA/FR/DE/JP/NL/UK/US) |
| TikTok Shop | Big-company features | Europe opened in batches from 2023 to 2026 | Opened in 11 European markets | **Not open in Sweden as of 2026-10-15** (synlighetsverket.se) |
| eBay Live, Tilt | Other | 2025 to 2026 years | eBay Live is in 7 markets; Tilt is in the UK | Not yet in Sweden (unverified) |
| Instagram / Facebook live selling | Big-company features | Has been around all along | — | Sellers were already livestreaming on FB (Sneakershyllan posted "Plick livestream auction tonight" on FB), but there was no bidding, checkout or buyer protection |
| Bought | iOS | Unknown | Swedish Shopping free chart on iOS, No. 71,115 by ratings | A small player, focused on "super-fast secondhand" |

**Finding** : in the Swedish-language market **there is no second native secondhand platform doing "livestream + real-time bidding"** . Whatnot and TikTok Shop, the two strongest rivals, still hadn't opened to Swedish sellers as of November 2026.

### 3. Growth tactics (evidence)

1. **Paid influencer livestreams (confirmed)** . Searching TikHub for "plicklive" and "reklam plick" turns up a batch of videos from 10 to November 2026 tagged "Reklam för @plick" or "betalt samarbete", with content like "I'm going live on Plick at X o'clock that day":
    - babbissecretvlog 10-02 "I samarbete med Plick", 435k views;
    - Swedish influencer Hedvig Sjödin ran her first live auction on Plick 10-11; gossip account tiktok_gossipboy made a video of it, 244k views and 8,633 likes; Plick has her storefront page plick.se/profiler/hedvigsjod1n and livestream page "Hedvig Sjödin LIVE #1";
    - isabellamensahh (31k followers) 10-21, kungbella (34k followers) 11-02, siggzy 10-28, husberger 11-04, henrikborg (326k followers) 11-03, tuvabjornas 11-02 "My third livestream";
    - franzbaumannn 10-26 posted an outfit video "styled with clothes I found on Plick Live" (#ad), 51k views. The play is: get influencers to move their wardrobes onto Plick for livestream auctions (low starting prices, plus giveaways), so influencers bring their followers into the app; Plick's official account then cuts highlights of the livestreams into videos for distribution.

2. **Official TikTok account plus promo videos (likely)** . @plick_official has 16,586 followers and 851 posts. The 10-27 video "SNEAKERSHYLLAN X PLICK LIVE" has 316k views but only 60 likes; that views-to-likes ratio looks like Spark Ads spend (inferred, not verified). Other posts from the same period usually get a few hundred to a few thousand views.

3. **Merchants and offline events (confirmed)** . HUMANA Second Hand (Swedish secondhand chain), Sneakershyllan (sneaker store), Gramenti, Cue Beauty and M.Resell ran dedicated sessions on Plick Live. 11-07 held a full-day offline event at Mall of Scandinavia, livestreamed simultaneously (visible in the official livestream schedule, TikTok and Instagram). HUMANA also livestreamed all day from its stores in Stockholm, Gothenburg and Malmö (Instagram). B2B merchants bring their own inventory and their own followers.

4. **SEO and web (inferred)** . plick.se has full category and brand pages (Zara, Acne, Stone Island…), claims 1M+ items, and every product and storefront page can be indexed by search, with a "Fortsätt i appen" banner at the bottom guiding people to the app. This is the base of its website traffic built up over many years, not the cause of this rise.

5. **Longtime users and the long-running influencer approach** . From 2021 to 2022 there were "Reklam för @plick" videos (nattid, 2.28M followers in 2022; __ohwoah, 2026-06 views, 155k). Recruiting influencers is a play Plick has been using for a long time; this time the content shifted from "come buy clothes at my Plick store" to "come watch me livestream".

6. **Ad libraries** : Plick does not appear in our Meta, TikTok or Google ad libraries (it is not on our tracking list, so absence here doesn't mean no spend).

### 4. Why it took off

- **Timing** : livestream auctions have been proven in the US and mainland Europe by Whatnot (livestream sales of $8B in 2025, European sellers up 600% year over year, per a marketmaze citation of the Whatnot report), but neither Whatnot nor TikTok Shop has entered Sweden. Plick took advantage of the gap, bringing the model over with Swedish language, Swish payments and local logistics.

- **The existing base** : it already has 1M+ items and a user base of 20-30K iOS ratings, skewing young and male, and into streetwear (UNT 2026-05-10 wrote "it's got young guys buying secondhand"). This is exactly the crowd that livestreams and giveaways reach best.

- **Turning influencers into sellers** : influencers livestreaming are selling their own clothes, and the promotion fees Plick pays are just startup cost; after that, influencers have their own reasons to keep going (tuvabjornas is already on her third session). Each livestream is a dated "event" that suits TikTok previews and can be cut into replays.

- **Stickiness and monetization** : bids in livestreams are legally binding; winners automatically go to Swish or card checkout, with buyer protection and per-item fees running through the platform, which is why it can reach No. 4 on the iOS grossing chart. Revenue grew 27% in 2025; no data for 2026.

### 5. Differentiation, and whether it's really why it grew

Differentiation = **the only native livestream auction in Swedish-language secondhand fashion** : second-level countdowns, bids extending by 3/5/10 seconds, a "skull" mode (countdown that doesn't extend), chat and giveaways, all of it, built on an established platform that already has users and inventory. Vinted and Sellpy are fixed-price, and Tradera is timed multi-day auctions. **Yes, and it's the main reason it's gaining now** : the other Swedish secondhand platforms all fell back in October while only Plick kept rising, which lines up with the influencer livestream wave. How long the differentiation lasts depends on when Whatnot and TikTok Shop enter Sweden and whether Vinted builds livestreams itself. The moat is mainly the local hosts and merchants it lined up first.

### 6. How visible it is

- The Swedish local scene knows it: UNT, Impact Loop, Svensk Handel and PostNord have all interviewed CEO Jimmy Heibert, and the financials are publicly available on allabolag.

- Almost nobody internationally has covered Plick Live. x-radar returns 0 results for "plick" over the last 90 days. No public revenue on TrustMRR.

- No copycats found (the "plickylive" and "Plickzy" on TikTok are unrelated to it).

### 7. What to borrow

- In small-language markets with no Whatnot or TikTok Shop yet (Nordics, Eastern Europe, parts of Asia), building live auctions on top of **a secondhand or collectibles platform that already has users** is easier than building a live-streaming app from scratch: inventory, users, and payments are already there.

- Cold-start playbook: pay creators to "clear their closet" in dedicated shows (low starting bids plus giveaways), sync in-store events with the livestream, then cut replays for the official account and run paid acquisition.

- Expanding into collectibles: plick.se has just launched a "Samlarobjekt → Pokémon / Sportkort" category, the same category Whatnot started with.

### 8. Still unclear

- Of the Tranco gains, how much is real web visits versus App/API (DNS) traffic? CrUX dropped in September globally, the opposite direction from Tranco.

- Exactly when did Plick Live launch (official auction videos already in May, merchant livestreams on FB in August), and when was the app renamed?

- Livestream GMV, take rate, and how much was spent on creator promotion; 2026 revenue.

- How much Schibsted or Vend still holds (controlling stake as of 2021; 2025 annual report lists 13 shareholders).

- After eBay acquired Tise, will eBay Live enter the Nordics through Tise?
