# The day Civitai axed "unlimited," it started selling $20 unlimited: how Sogni caught the users fleeing Civitai and Runway

**What it is** A web-based AI image and video generation platform. 160 multiple open-source models, $20 a month, use as much as you want, and you can turn off content filtering.

**Why it took off** 2026, Civitai split up and Runway cancelled unlimited. Right then, it launched a monthly plan with "unlimited + uncensored + card payment," then used a whole set of "XX alternative" search pages to pull in the people leaving.

**C** **How you could ride it** Don't copy the product, copy the playbook: watch for big platforms announcing they're cutting perks, then within a week ship a matching plan, write an "XX alternative" page, and build a migration tool. The window right now is 11-30, when Runway's legacy unlimited users hit their end date.

Grade C: "Unlimited" depends on a crowdsourced GPU network where people get paid for supplying compute, and anyone who follows by renting cloud GPUs will struggle to make the math work. "Uncensored + card payment" could be shut down by payment processors at any time, and rivals like Civitai, Venice, and Tensor.Art are an order of magnitude bigger. The customer-poaching tactics are worth learning, but copying the product isn't worth it. Whispers in the small circles

Global rank 142k · 90 days ago, top 1M+

A small Singapore company launched a $20/month "no token counting" plan for image and video generation right after Civitai pushed adult content to a new site that only took crypto, and Runway stopped selling unlimited plans. It lets you turn off content filtering and pay by card. In four months, its site climbed from outside the global top 1M to 140K. Below: who it caught, what keeps "unlimited" running, where the money comes from, and whether you should follow it.

### A question nobody answered well

In 2026 mid-July (inferred from post numbering), someone on Reddit's r/aivideomaking asked: "Is there an AI image editor that doesn't filter content, doesn't require buying credits, and is free?" A reply underneath said: "Sogni AI just launched an unlimited plan, all the open-source image and video models are free to use. You need to link a card, but there's a 3-day free trial."

This question was everywhere in those months, because two major platforms tightened up one after another:

- **2026-04-15** : Civitai split up. Adult content and the full generator moved to civitai.red, which only accepts crypto.

- **2026-06-01** : Runway stopped selling Unlimited and moved to Max, which has a credit cap. Legacy unlimited users keep theirs until 11-30.

**2026-07-14** , Sogni put out a press release titled "As AI Platforms Move Away From Unlimited, Sogni AI Launches a $20 Fair-Use Unlimited Plan" (every platform is pulling back on unlimited, Sogni launches a $20 fair-use unlimited plan). The next day it posted a Show HN and got 2 points. The people who actually showed up came from search and small communities, not HN.

### What it is

Sogni is an AI image, video, and music platform built by Singapore's we&robot pte ltd. It started in 2023 with local image-generation apps on Mac and iPhone, and its main product is now the web app app.sogni.ai. One account covers 160–200 models (different pages on its site give different counts): open-source models like Krea 2, FLUX, Z-Image, Qwen Image, Chroma, WAN 2.2, and LTX-2.5, plus closed-source models like GPT Image, Seedance, and Wan 3 (including their Uncensored versions).

Its plan page (sogni.ai/fair-use-unlimited, 11-06) looks like this:

| Plan | Pricing | What you get |
|---|---|---|
| Free | $0 | A small monthly credit allowance, content filtering forced on |
| Unlimited | $20/month or $199/year | Open-source models cost no credits; run 4 images and 1 videos at once; filtering can be turned off (18+); LoRAs from Civitai and HuggingFace can be imported; 3-day trial |
| Unlimited Pro | $50/month or $498/year | 16 images and 4 videos at once, priority in the queue |
| Closed-source models | Pay per use | Subscribers get 95 off / 9 off |

You can pay by card, in-app purchase, USDC/USDT, or its own SOGNI token. When you start the trial, a "SOGNI* NO CHARGE" pre-authorization shows up on your card. The page has a whole section explaining it, which suggests a lot of people had questions about it.

The page's first line is "No corporate overlords here": your subscription fee funds a network of home GPUs owned by regular people. This is the biggest difference from its rivals, more on that below.

### Why now: the traffic curve lines up with two events

Global website rank (Tranco, 30-day rolling average):

| Date | Global rank |
|---|---|
| Before mid-August | Outside the top 1M |
| 08-20 | 915,913 |
| 09-03 | 557,748 |
| 10-01 | 229,715 |
| 11-05 | 142,342 |

Tranco's data lags real traffic by a week or two. Working backward, traffic started climbing around late July and early August, right after 07-14 launched. Real Chrome user data changed at the same time: 2026-09, it jumped from off the charts straight into the top 50K in the US, UK, Australia, Canada, Thailand, and the Philippines. In the US, India, and Mexico, the most-visited page is app.sogni.ai. So these people are actually generating images on the web, not just glancing at the landing page.

Compared with its peers, it's still small: civitai.com is around 10K globally, civitai.red 38K, Venice 16K, Leonardo 14K, Tensor.Art 27K (all 11-05). Sogni's 140K is about the same as getimg.ai and Playground.

### Where users come from: a whole set of "XX alternative" pages

It hasn't spent much on ads: we couldn't find it in the Meta or Google ad libraries (not finding it doesn't mean it never ran ads). Most of its TikTok official account videos get only two to three hundred to seven hundred views. It mainly recruits through three channels.

**1. Landing pages written for the users leaving.** The site has seven "alternative" pages: civitai, runway, leonardo, venice, tensor-art, seaart, and chatgpt. The Civitai page opens very directly:

> Ever since Civitai split up in 2026 April, moving its complete model catalog, generator, and adult content community to civitai.red, which only accepts crypto, many creators have been looking for a stable place to actually **run** these models. Sogni built exactly that.

Below is a comparison table: on adult content, "uncensored models 50 on the main site, 18+ opt-in" against Civitai's "moved to civitai.red"; on payment, "card, stablecoin, credit packs, and tokens all accepted" against "crypto only on the adult side." It also moved several uncensored fine-tunes popular on Civitai (Dark Beast, the Chroma family) straight onto its own platform, with almost no barrier to migrating.

**2. Programmatic model pages.** Of the site's 264 URLs, 175 are model pages and 29 are LoRA pages, one per model. 11-07 ranks 3 on Brave for "civitai alternative" and 8 for "uncensored ai image generator."

**3. Small communities.** NSFW AI tool review sites (nsfwaireviews.com gave it 09-06 points 7.1), uncensored tool directories, a Substack post "Sogni: A Powerful Dark Beast" (09-27), and Reddit Q&A threads. From the outside, there's no way to tell whether these review sites listed it organically or were paid. There's also a crypto thread: the press releases went out on Chainwire, CoinMarketCap, and CryptoPanic, and the token runs seasonal airdrops and referral codes. This channel mostly brings in miners and token traders, who can drive site visits but aren't necessarily creators who came to generate images.

### Where the money comes from, and why "unlimited" doesn't lose money

Other platforms cut unlimited because the GPU bill was too much to carry. Sogni can afford it because of two layers of design:

1. **Only the cheap part is unlimited.** Only open-source models cost no credits. Things like GPT Image and Seedance have to be paid to the model providers, so they're still charged per use, and subscribers only get a discount.

2. **The GPUs aren't its own.** Anyone can plug their graphics card into its network to take jobs and earn SOGNI tokens. The company says it pays 51% of net Unlimited subscription revenue to these GPU owners (Chainwire, 07-14). No data center means no fixed compute bill.

The absolute revenue isn't visible, but there's one indirect signal: its iPhone app ranks on the App Store's Graphics & Design Top Grossing chart, ranked 47–78 in the US store (11-03 to 11-07), 19–49 in Germany, and 43–94 in the UK. The Android version has only 11K installs and a 2.0 rating (11-07), which suggests the money and users are mostly on the web.

On the company itself: it raised about $2.1M total across a 2025 pre-seed and seed round, at a $25M valuation. The SOGNI token 11-07 has a market cap of about $4.1M, down about 87% from its peak.

### Cracks in the reputation

The expectations that come with "unlimited" are also where it's most likely to get into trouble. Reviews and discussions keep raising the same points: nobody can say how "fair use" is actually defined, the "relaxed mode" queue takes 5–15+ minutes, and under a post on the official Reddit community promoting MiniMax H3 unlimited, someone replied: "You can make about two videos a day." The plan structure has also been called too messy: free credits, Spark credit packs, tokens, subscriptions, and closed-source models billed separately, all stacked together.

The official messaging isn't consistent either: the plan page says LoRA import comes with Unlimited, while the Civitai page says "LoRA import is in the planning for Unlimited Pro."

There's a bigger risk too: Civitai originally split out adult content and took only crypto because card payment processors wouldn't allow it. Sogni now takes credit cards for uncensored generation, and whether that door could be shut someday is not something it gets to decide (inference).

### Who it's competing with

| Competitors | Global rank (11-05) | How Sogni differs from the rest |
|---|---|---|
| Civitai(.com / .red) | 10,360 / 38,343 | A model community, charging by credits; adult content only on .red, crypto only |
| Venice.ai | 15,774 (90 days ago, 24,500) | Same privacy and uncensored positioning; about 60 ads running on Meta; models and LoRAs not as deep as Sogni's |
| Runway | 5,862 | 06-01 stopped selling unlimited; Sogni built a dedicated /runway-alternative page |
| Tensor.Art / SeaArt / PixAI | 27,455 / 8,093 / 5,873 | Community models plus credits, heavy on anime; an order of magnitude bigger |
| Leonardo.ai | 14,244 | Credit-based, strict filtering |
| AI Horde | 108,783 | Also crowdsourced GPUs, but purely volunteer, unpaid, fewer models, slower |

Almost nobody else offers all of: monthly unlimited + filtering can be turned off + card payment + Civitai's models and LoRAs. I haven't seen anyone copy "crowdsourced GPUs + $20 unlimited" yet, but SEO articles on "where to find unlimited Seedance after Runway" are already being written (creaa.ai blog), so someone is already competing for this search demand.

### If it were you

**Verdict:** The playbook is worth learning, but I wouldn't copy the product. Sogni can offer "unlimited" because of a crowdsourced GPU network where people get paid for compute, plus a willingness to take credit cards for adult content. The first is hard to replicate, and the second could be shut down by payment processors at any time.

**Who it's for:** Small teams that already run an AI tool site or have compute or model access, and want to learn the "big platform cuts perks, I immediately take the users" move.

**Who it's not for:** Anyone starting from zero who would have to rent cloud GPUs to run models (unlimited monthly plans on rented GPUs very likely won't pencil out); anyone who wants adult content without crypto payments or compliance prep; anyone trying to go head-to-head with Civitai, Venice, or Tensor.Art, which are an order of magnitude bigger than Sogni.

**How to do it:** Watch big platforms' "cutting perks" announcements: cancelling unlimited, tightening content policy, dropping a payment method, pulling a model. Within a week of the announcement, ship a plan that matches what was lost, a page titled "XX alternative," with the first screen making clear "what you lost over there, you can get back here," and a migration tool (compatible with the other platform's models, LoRAs, and project files). Only offer unlimited on the parts with low marginal cost; charge per use for the expensive parts.

**How to get users:** Search is the home turf: "XX alternative," "XX unlimited," "what to do when XX cuts X"-type keywords, plus programmatic pages with one page per model. Then answer specific questions on the Reddit communities and Discords where the users leaving gather. Ads aren't required; Sogni barely ran any.

**Deadline:** The nearest window right now is **2026-11-30** , when Runway's legacy unlimited users hit their end date. If you're already in video generation, get your comparison page and plan up before mid-November. Sogni has already ranked for that term, so waiting means competing for scraps.

**Verdict check:** ① Sogni kept climbing after December, and a second site copying the "crowdsourced GPUs + flat-rate unlimited" model has shown up. That suggests the route is easier than it looks. ② On the flip side, if it tightens its fair-use limits, or card processors stop accepting uncensored generation, the rank could fall back past 300k. That would mean "unlimited + uncensored" wasn't going to last anyway. ③ If Runway or Civitai bring back unlimited plans or reopen card payments, some of the users who left could come back.

## Sogni AI (sogni.ai): why it took off

> Channel: web (pool C1). Research date 2026-11-07. Data from our traffic / appstore / googleplay / metaads / googleads / hackernews libraries, plus Jina / Exa / Brave search and TikHub.

### One line

Sogni is an AI image, video, and music generation platform run by Singapore's small company we&robot pte ltd. It has made Mac and iOS apps since 2023, backed by the SOGNI crypto token and the "Supernet" decentralized GPU network. Site traffic took off after **2026-07-14 launched a $20/month "fair-use unlimited" plan** . Two things happened around that time: **Runway discontinued Unlimited** (no longer sold from 2026-06-01, existing users extended to 11-30), and **Civitai moved adult content to civitai.red, crypto-only** (2026-04-15). Sogni caught the users pushed out by both moves by offering three things at once: unlimited usage, the ability to turn off filters (uncensored), and card payments. Acquisition mainly comes from SEO landing pages ("XX alternative" and 175 model pages), plus niche channels like NSFW review sites and Reddit. We found no evidence in our libraries that it has run paid ads.

### 1. What it is

- One account can use 200+ models: open-weight models (Krea 2, FLUX, Z-Image, Qwen Image, WAN 2.2, LTX-2.5, Chroma, and others) run on its own distributed GPU network. A separate set of partner premium models (GPT Image 2.5, Seedance 2.5, Wan 3, and others, including uncensored versions) is billed separately in Spark credits. Sources: sogni.ai homepage, /fair-use-unlimited.

- Pricing: the free tier gives a monthly allotment of credits, and filters are always on. **Unlimited is $20/month or $199/year** : open-source models don't consume credits, sensitive-content filters can be turned off, and LoRAs from Civitai / HuggingFace can be imported. **Unlimited Pro is $50/month** with higher concurrency and queue priority. There is a 3-day free trial, and filters can be turned off during the trial too. Payment is by credit card, in-app purchase, or USDC/USDT or SOGNI tokens.

- Front ends include Web (app.sogni.ai), Sogni Studio (Mac), Sogni Pocket (iOS, listed on the App Store under id 6450021857,2023-06), an Android TWA (ai.sogni.app.twa), a Photobooth mini-app, and an API / MCP / "Creative Agent Skill" for use as a tool in Claude and Codex.

- Supply side: anyone can run their own GPU as a worker and earn SOGNI tokens. The official claim is that 51% of Unlimited subscription net revenue goes to GPU operators (Chainwire 2026-07-14 press release). The SOGNI token 2025-07-02 is listed on Kraken / MEXC / Gate (cryptorank). CoinGecko 2026-11-07 data: market cap about $4.1M, 24h volume about $24k... trading about 98k, price down about 87% from its all-time high.

- Funding: roughly $2.1M raised across pre-seed / seed rounds in 2025, at a $25M valuation (Tech in Asia, Investing.com / Yahoo, Caplight). Comma3 and Republic led, with crypto funds including CoinGecko Ventures also participating.

### 2. Data: how the traffic grew

- **Tranco** (traffic library): 2026-08-20 first entered the top 1M, 915,913; 09-03 to 557,748; 10-01 to 229,715; 11-05 to 142,342. It has kept rising, going from 7 to 156,060 over the last 142,342 days. Tranco is a 30-day rolling average that lags real traffic by 1–2 weeks. Working backward, the real surge began around late July to early August, right after 07-14 launched Unlimited.

- **CrUX** (traffic library): globally 2026-08 and 09 are both in the top 500k. US, GB, AU, CA, TH, and PH all rose into the top 50k by 2026-09 (US was still in the top 100k in August, GB in the top 500k). DE, IT, IN, MX, NL, PL, TW, and VN rose into the top 100k. In US, IN, MX, and NL the best origin is **app.sogni.ai** , meaning people are actually generating images in the web app, not just reading the marketing pages.

- **Traffic is mostly web, the app is small** : the Android TWA has 10,993 installs, grew 935 over 7 days, and rates 2.0 (29 reviews) (googleplay library 2026-11-07). iOS US rating count is 206, and from 10-28 to 11-07 it only added 9 reviews (appstore library). But iOS does chart in the **Graphics & Design Top Grossing** : US 47–78, DE 19–49, GB 43–94 (appstore library, 11-03 to 11-07). So in-app subscriptions bring in real revenue, just not much volume.

- Against its peers it is still small (traffic library, 11-05): civitai.com 10,360, civitai.red 38,343, venice.ai 15,774, tensor.art 27,455, seaart.ai 8,093, pixai.art 5,873, leonardo.ai 14,244, runwayml.com 5,862. Sogni 142,342, roughly on par with getimg.ai (149,734), piclumen (151,884), and playground (158,453).

### 3. Competitors

| Competitors | Form | Launched | Scale (Tranco 11-05) | How Sogni is different |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Civitai(.com / .red) | Web | 2022 | 10,360 / 38,343 | A model community with on-site generation, billed in Buzz credits. 2026-04-15 split into two sites: adult content lives only on .red and takes only crypto. Sogni only runs the models, takes card payments, and offers flat-rate unlimited. |
| Venice.ai | Web | 2024 | 15,774 (90 days ago, 24,500) | The privacy, uncensored approach is closest to Sogni's, with its own Pro subscription. Meta is running 60 ads (metaads library). Sogni has a deeper model catalog (LoRA, video, 3D) and a flat-rate unlimited model that doesn't depend on paid acquisition. |
| Runway | Web | 2018 | 5,862 | 2026-06-01 discontinued Unlimited and replaced it with a credit-capped Max plan (help.runwayml.com). Sogni built a /runway-alternative page to catch these users. |
| Tensor.Art / SeaArt / PixAI | Web + app | 2023 | 27,455 / 8,093 / 5,873 | A community of models + credits, skewing anime, with volume an order of magnitude larger than Sogni's. Sogni's pitch is flat-rate pricing without counting credits, decentralization, and privacy. |
| Leonardo.ai | Web + app | 2022 | 14,244 | Credit-based, with strict content moderation. Sogni has a /leonardo-ai-alternative page. |
| Higgsfield / OpenArt / Krea | Web | 2023–24 | 4,311 / 7,019 / 24,834 | Aggregates many closed frontier video models, with moderation. Sogni's core is open-source models, with frontier closed models billed separately per use. |
| Perchance / AI Horde | Web / open source | — | 5,480 / 108,783 | Free, with community compute, but fewer models and slower. AI Horde is the closest "crowdsourced GPU" to Sogni, but it's purely volunteer and charges nothing. |
| ChatGPT Images / Gemini | Big-company features | — | — | Strict moderation, limited model selection. Sogni has a /chatgpt-alternative page. |

### 4. Where users came from (growth tactics)

1. **Platform events + positioning** (strong evidence): the Chainwire press release headline is "As AI Platforms Move Away From Unlimited, Sogni AI Launches a $20 Fair-Use Unlimited Plan" (2026-07-14), directly targeting Runway's removal of unlimited plans. The site has a /civitai-alternative page that says "since Civitai's April 2026 split moved its full catalog, generator, and mature-content community to civitai.red with crypto-only payments, a lot of creators have been looking for a stable place to actually run those models", and it even hosts popular Civitai models (Dark Beast, Chroma).

2. **SEO landing pages** (strong evidence): the sitemap has 264 URLs, of which 175 are model pages and 29 are LoRA pages, plus alternative pages for civitai / runway / leonardo / venice / tensor-art / seaart / chatgpt, and uncensored image/video generator pages. Brave ranks it #3 for "civitai alternative" and #8 for "uncensored ai image generator" (2026-11-07 checked live).

3. **NSFW / uncensored tool review sites and directories** (evidence exists, nature not verified): nsfwaireviews.com (2026-09-06,7.1/10), uncensoredlab.com, friendlyaiapps.com, owlwebmasters.com, and aiidelist list or review it, and a Substack post covers it ("Sogni: A Powerful Dark Beast", 2026-09-27). These sites' outbound links are plain, with no ref parameter seen, so whether any are paid placements is unverified.

4. **Crypto communities and PR** (evidence exists): press releases go out via Chainwire and get picked up by CoinMarketCap, CryptoPanic (07-17), and Korea's IT Times (07-17). The SOGNI token runs seasonal airdrops (Season 12), has a leaderboard, and an Ambassador referral program where the username is the referral code. This brings in workers, stakers, and crypto users, which lifts dashboard and main-site traffic, but not necessarily creators.

5. **Reddit** (evidence exists): the official r/Sogni_Protocol exists; r/generativeAI and r/macapps have threads on "free local image generation" and "how slow is relaxed mode".

6. **HN** : the Show HN "Sogni Unlimited" (2026-07-15) got only 2 points, which brought little volume.

7. **TikTok** : most videos on the official sogni.ai account have only 200–700 views (TikHub search), so TikTok didn't drive the growth.

8. **Paid ads** : neither the metaads nor the googleads library shows Sogni as an advertiser (Google mapping result: no_ads). Not finding ads doesn't mean none were run, but it doesn't look like paid acquisition drove this.

### 5. Why it took off

- **Timing** : In 2026, the top tools are tightening up on two things: unlimited generation and adult content. Runway dropped Unlimited; Civitai pushed adult content over to .red and only takes crypto; and everyone's credit-based pricing makes people nervous about burning through them. Sogni landed right in that gap with a $20/month unlimited plan, with filters you can turn off and card payments.

- **The cost structure makes "unlimited" sustainable** : unlimited access applies only to open-weight models, while closed frontier models stay pay-per-use. Open models run on community GPUs, and half of subscription revenue goes to GPU operators, avoiding the fixed costs of owning a data center. It has no large model bills it can't afford, so it can do what competitors cut.

- **Catching Civitai's users** : it hosts popular uncensored fine-tuned models from Civitai and supports importing Civitai LoRAs, so those users can move over with almost no friction.

- **Ready-made SEO entry points** : "XX alternative" and model pages line up with the concentrated search demand around "where to go after Civitai / Runway".

- **Retention and payment signals** : the iOS Graphics & Design Top Grossing chart holds a steady top 100 in the US, DE, and GB; CrUX shows the app.sogni.ai origin in the US top 50k. But the Android rating is 2.0, and reviews often complain that "Unlimited isn't really unlimited", "relaxed queues take 5–15+ minutes", and the pricing structure is messy. Retention is still unclear.

### 6. Differentiation

Only **a monthly unlimited plan + an uncensored model library with filters you can turn off + card payments + 200 open models and importable LoRAs** together are rare, and Sogni is nearly alone in offering all of them. Venice is uncensored but lacks this depth of models and LoRAs; Civitai has the model ecosystem, but adult content is paid in crypto and billed per credit; Runway and Leonardo offer unlimited or credit plans, but with strict moderation. What holds this combination up is a decentralized GPU cost structure. That's how it grew: the traffic inflection lines up in time with the Unlimited launch and competitors tightening, and the landing pages explicitly name those two competitor events. The token and DePIN weren't why users came; for creators, they're just the cheap compute behind the scenes.

### 7. Visibility and copycats

- Revenue isn't public (neither TrustMRR nor the founders have shared it); mainstream tech media and big accounts on X haven't covered it (the x-radar local corpus returns 0 posts for "sogni" over 90 days). The coverage is only crypto press releases, NSFW review sites, and small Reddit threads. **It's being talked about in small circles.**

- Copycats: I found no product that explicitly copies "decentralized GPU + $20 unlimited". But SEO articles already ask "where to find unlimited Seedance after Runway" (creaa.ai blog), so someone is already competing for that demand.

### 8. What to borrow

- When a big platform **cuts a perk** (unlimited plans, adult content, card payments), that's the window for second-tier products to win users. The play is to launch a matching plan immediately, pair it with "XX alternative" landing pages, and offer migration tools (compatible with the rival's models and LoRAs).

- Offer unlimited access only on **the low-marginal-cost part (open models)** and keep pay-per-use for the expensive parts, so "unlimited" doesn't sink the business.

- Turn a rival's content assets (its model catalog) into programmatic SEO pages.

### 9. Still unclear

- How much of the traffic comes from creators versus crypto users (workers, staking, airdrops); CrUX only shows that both app.sogni.ai and www get traffic.

- Subscriber count and revenue: only the iOS Top Grossing category rank is usable, and Stripe revenue on web is not visible.

- Whether the NSFW review sites' coverage is organic or paid/affiliate.

- Runway's old Unlimited users hit 2026-11-30 expiry, which may bring in another wave of traffic; if Sogni tightens its fair-use limits, word of mouth could flip.
