A 2K-follower account, 3.8M views: how Solvely pushed a homework site during back-to-school season

What it is An AI homework assistant for students: snap-to-solve, step-by-step explanations, an AI tutor on a whiteboard, and mock tests generated from course materials. It comes as an App, a Chrome extension, and a website.

Why it took off The whole category rose during back-to-school and midterm season, but its extra lift came from hundreds of free tool pages launched between 8 and October (calculators, citation generators, Turnitin/AI detectors), plus viral short videos from a matrix of student accounts and Meta paid ads.

CHow you could follow Don't go head-to-head with a general snap-to-solve app. Pick one exam, one language, or one school system, catch anxious search traffic with free tool pages, then pay a base salary plus view bonuses to a team of student project accounts, and monetize on the web.

Grade C: the category includes ByteDance, Google, and OpenAI, and Solvely's revenue and funding are public with three years of runway behind it, so a head-on fight won't win traffic. But its acquisition playbook is specific and can be transplanted to narrow audiences, which makes it worth studying. Public / widely discussed

Global rank 51k · 90 days ago 189k

Solvely is an AI homework assistant with snap-to-solve, step-by-step explanations, and whiteboard teaching. None of it is new, and ByteDance and Google were in this category long before. But from August to November of 2026, its website's global rank rose 3.7 times, well above the seasonal lift of its peers. The growth didn't come from a new product. It came from a playbook: before the school year, flood the site with hundreds of free student tool pages, then hire students to post short videos from dedicated project accounts. The product is hard to copy; the playbook can be learned.

One 3.8M-view video, posted on a 2K-follower account

In Oct 2026 25, an account called @studywithannahh posted a TikTok captioned "I am now a Solvely Stan through and through," walking through cell biology review with Solvely's whiteboard feature: the AI draws on the whiteboard while explaining concepts in a gossipy tone. By Nov 6, the video had 3.83M views and 350k likes. The account itself had only 2,261 followers.

Over the following ten days, the same formula kept showing up across a string of accounts: @astnstudies (2,933 followers), its Oct 15 video "Spilling the tea at every study sesh" with 2.78M views; @naothinks (1,209 followers), Oct 16, 1.29M; @studywithmamaarung (867 followers), Oct 17, 1.43M. The names are all "study with ___" or "locked in with ___", the captions all say "studying like you're hearing gossip", and the tags all include #solvelyai (TikTok search, 11-06).

Where these accounts come from is spelled out on creator.solvely.ai: Solvely recruits students to make short videos, paying a base salary plus view bonuses and a leaderboard, with top tiers at "$1,000+ per month", plus a content coach and ready-made scripts. Videos go on "a dedicated account created for this project", and "you don't need to post on your own account." Applications come through a Feishu form. One testimonial from a participant says it all: "Feedback comes with timestamps: 'cut 0:03 at 0.4 seconds', 'call to action 2 seconds late.'"

In other words, this isn't organic virality. It's an assembly-line matrix of small accounts posting dozens to hundreds of videos a week, betting that a few will take off.

What it is

A student AI study assistant: snap or screenshot to solve, step-by-step explanations, an AI tutor on a whiteboard (it writes as it explains, and you can circle what you don't understand and ask follow-ups), flashcards generated from your own course materials, and mock exams with "exam prediction". It has four entry points: iOS, Android, a Chrome extension, and the web. The company is Aignite, founded in San Francisco in 2023, with a team that leans toward Chinese-American founders going global.

It isn't new. Reports at the end of 2024 said 4 people had built it to $6M annualized revenue, growing 6x in a year (arr.club, 2024-12), and Pitchbook records $8.1M in funding. It launched on iOS in April of 2023; the US store shows 42k ratings at 4.7 stars; Google Play shows 6.26M installs (11-07).

How much it grew: its web ranking climbed 3.7 times in 90 days

Real-user data from Chrome showed the signal earlier: in September, it jumped from the global top 500k tier straight into the top 50k tier, skipping a tier; the US, Mexico, and Australia entered the top 10k, and the UK, Canada, India, Brazil, and South Korea entered the top 50k. Several countries rose at once, so it wasn't one market being gamed.

Back-to-school season explains part of it, since the whole category rose. From 8-06 to 11-05:

The extra lift beyond that depends on what Solvely did on its own.

Where the users came from: a free tool site plus three traffic pushes

The first and biggest: turn the website into a student toolbox. The sitemap has 1,011 pages in 22 languages, many launched in a concentrated wave from late August to early November: over twenty "step-by-step xx calculator" pages in early September, a dozen subject problem-solving pages (calculus, chemistry, accounting, nursing...), AI flashcard and exam prediction tools; from late September to late October it added APA/MLA citation generators, paraphrasers, grammar checkers, word counters, AP score calculators, and about 60 articles on "AI detection / Turnitin", with titles like "Does Canvas have AI detection", "Is Turnitin's AI detector free", "GPTZero alternatives".

The best-executed part is the AI detector page. Its opening line: "Turnitin, Originality, GPTZero — AI detectors are everywhere. Know your score before your school, editor, or client does." You can test once with no sign-up and no credit card; the result is from ZeroGPT. Want Turnitin and GPTZero results, or longer text? That's a paid upgrade. Next to it sits a "Make it sound human" button that leads to its AI-rate reduction tool. Back-to-school and midterm paper season is exactly when students are most afraid of being flagged for AI, and this page catches that anxiety. Nov 7, searching "free turnitin ai detector" on Brave US, it ranks #2; "ai math solver" ranks #5; "ai tutor whiteboard" ranks #1.

Second: the student sock-puppet matrix. These are the accounts from the opening. Recruiting isn't only in the US. Reddit's UGC subreddit has its job posts ($500–1,220 a month, 10 videos a week), and Backstage is recruiting campus ambassadors in the US, German-speaking, and Spanish-speaking markets. The creator page says it prefers English, German, Italian, Spanish, French, and Polish. The official TikTok account itself has only 7,896 followers. The traffic is spread across a pile of project accounts.

Third: Meta video ads. Its Facebook page had 123 ads running as of Nov 5, over 90% of them video. Starting September, the copy switched to "Free Premium Access for Students," landing on Google Play, with Germany, the UK and Japan among the target countries.

Two side channels: a Chrome extension (100k users, pitched as "screenshot it and solve it" on Canvas, Blackboard, and Moodle pages), and an affiliate program (you refer someone to a web subscription and earn a 30% cut for 6 months). Links on the website, the extension, and the ads all carry tracking links from the same attribution tool, so it can tell exactly how many people and how much money each channel brings in.

From the outside you can't separate how much each channel contributes. On timing, the September jump lines up with the tool pages going live, and the acceleration after mid-October lines up with the whiteboard "learn through gossip" video series blowing up, judging by the timeline.

Where the money comes from

After a few free uses a paywall appears. The whiteboard tutor is free for 10 minutes a day. Third-party reviews list the subscription at $12.99/month and $46.99/year, plus pay-per-use credits (current official prices unverified). The affiliate cut only applies to web subscriptions, which suggests it's pulling payments off the App Store and onto the web, saving the 15–30% Apple commission.

Part of the app revenue is visible. Starting Nov 6 it entered the US iOS Education Top Grossing chart at #23–26, ahead of Question.AI (40) and Photomath (41). Sensor Tower's public page estimates US downloads last month at 5–100k and revenue at $10–500k. The US iOS rating count is adding only about three hundred a week, and Google Play gets about 5 thousand installs a day. The app side hasn't grown several times over alongside the web over these three months. How many of this web wave converted to paying is still unclear from the outside.

Who it's competing with

This is one of the most crowded categories. Solvely sits in the second tier.

It's also very public: it was reported on revenue within 2024 years, issued a press release in October (claiming 15M users, while its creator page says 10M and its store page says 5M, three numbers that don't match), and appeared on several investor-ranked AI lists. Few copy it, though some write "Solvely alternative" pages to ride its brand name. A few small sites in the AI whiteboard-tutor niche have already appeared.

If it were you

In one line: don't build the same product. Learn its playbook this season, free tool pages that capture anxious searches plus a matrix of student sock puppets, and apply it to a narrower student segment.

Good fit for: people who can do programmatic SEO and quickly ship dozens or hundreds of tool pages; small teams that can manage a group of part-time students filming videos; people who know a specific non-English education market (German, Polish, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese) or a specific exam.

Bad fit for: indie devs who want to build a general "snap a photo, get the answer" AI app. ByteDance, Google, and OpenAI are all on that road, and Solvely has funding and three years of runway behind it, so you won't get its traffic.

How to do it:

  • Pick a narrow audience: one exam (the NCLEX nursing license, a specific AP subject, Germany's Abitur), one language, or one school system (a particular LMS).
  • Start with free, no-sign-up tools that get steady searches: calculators, citation generators, grade converters, AI detection. They're cheap to build and search volume is stable, and each page gets a paid entry point (study plans, practice tests, explanations).
  • Put payments on the web: use subscriptions plus affiliate cuts, and don't rely entirely on the App Store.

How to acquire users: copy its structure rather than its jokes. Hire 10–20 students on a base salary plus view bonuses, post from newly created project accounts, test hooks with the same script template, and review weekly. "Learn it like gossip" is already overused by it, so you need your own hook.

When to start: the next peak in the Northern Hemisphere is January 2027, with finals and spring semester. Tool pages need two or three months to get indexed, so you'd start working from 11–December. The next big window is late August 2027, when school starts again.

Signs you've misread it: if after January finals its ranking drops back beyond 150k, the wave was mostly seasonal and the tool sites can't retain users. If Google starts serving AI detection and calculator answers directly in search results, tool-page traffic gets siphoned off. If schools and Turnitin tighten their stance on "AI-rate reduction" tools, this traffic channel turns into a risk.

Why Solvely.ai (Aignite Inc.) is able to pull this off

Channel: web (domain solvely.ai), pool C1. Research day 2026-11-07. Data comes from our databases (traffic / appstore / googleplay / chromestore / metaads) and public web pages; sources are listed after each item.

One line

Solvely is an AI homework and study assistant founded in San Francisco 2023 by a Chinese team: photo or screenshot problem solving, step-by-step explanations, an AI whiteboard tutor, quizzes built from your own course materials, with iOS and Android apps, a Chrome extension, and a web workspace. This traffic surge didn't come from a new product. An existing player already at $6M ARR with $8.1M raised rode the Northern Hemisphere back-to-school season, and from 2026 8–October turned solvely.ai into a free student tools site (dozens of calculators, subject solver pages, AI detector / AI humanizer / citation generator, AP score calculator, in 22 languages), then used a UGC creator network and Meta paid ads to funnel people into the app subscription.

2026-11-0551,099

Tranco uses a 30-day rolling average and lags by 1–2 weeks, so the real traffic jump happened around late September to early October.

CrUX (Chrome real-user data, monthly buckets): globally, 2026-05~08 was always in the top 500k bucket, and 2026-09 jumped straight to the top 50k (skipping a bucket). By country 2026-09: us top 10k (top 50k before August), mx top 10k, au top 10k, ca/gb/in/br/kr top 50k, de/id/nl top 100k. In other words, English-speaking countries, Latin America, India, and Korea all rose together in September; no single country was inflating the numbers.

Back-to-school lifted the whole category (quizlet, gauthai, and knowunity all doubled), but Solvely's gain is clearly larger than seasonality alone, and CrUX crossed a bucket. The extra growth has to be explained by its own moves (see section 3).

App side (large volume, but not the main driver of this surge)

  • iOS (appstore library, app ID 6446930976,2023-04-14 listed): US store rating count 42,550, +321 over the last 7 days (10-28 → 11-07, up from 42,084 to 42,550, roughly 20–70 a day); US store Education Top Free rank #13–31, and since 11-06 it has charted Education Top Grossing at #23–26 (same chart: Question.AI #40, Photomath #41). Sensor Tower's public page estimates 5–100k US downloads and $10–500k revenue last month (app.sensortower.com/overview/6446930976). Listed in 100 stores worldwide, with titles localized per language.
  • Google Play (googleplay database, com.solvely.photo.math.solver.calculator.ai): 6,259,291 installs, +36,204 over the last 7 days (about 5 thousand per day), ranked #91–189 on the Education Top Free chart in only 14 stores, and #128 on the US Education Top Grossing chart. Weaker than iOS.
  • Chrome extension (chromestore database, aedglnfjjccpifohekdeoogffomjcikm): 100,000 users (store-capped tier), 204 ratings, 2024-11-25 listed, last updated 2026-10-22. Among similar extensions it sits in the same top tier as QuestionAI, AnswerAI, and Transcript (all in the 100k tier).
  • Where the traffic lands: the surge signal is web (both Tranco and CrUX measure web visits). The iOS US store adds only a few hundred ratings a week and Play adds a few thousand installs a day, with no sign of a simultaneous multiple-fold jump. So this wave is mainly web traffic, which then gets sent to the app via Adjust links (the homepage and extension buttons both link to app.adjust.com / solvely.go.link attribution URLs).

Bottom line: this is one of the most crowded categories. Solvely is neither first nor biggest; it sits in the second tier by scale.

3. Growth tactics (evidence)

  1. Back-to-school + a web tools site rollout (main cause, confirmed)
    • In the sitemap (solvely.ai/sitemap.xml, 1,011 URLs total across 22 languages with hreflang), a large batch of pages have lastmod dates clustered between 2026-08-28 and 11-04: in early September it launched 20+ 'xx calculator with steps' pages, AI flashcards / quiz generators / study guides / exam predictors, and a dozen subject solver pages (calculus, chemistry, physics, accounting, psychology, history, nursing…). From late September to late October it added citation generators (APA/MLA/Chicago…), rewriting / grammar / spelling / word count tools, AP score calculators, and about 60 blog posts centered on 'AI detector / Turnitin / AI humanizer' (Does Canvas have an AI detector, Is Turnitin AI detector free, GPTZero alternatives, Gauth alternatives…).
    • Wayback first captures: /ai-humanizer on 2026-05-31, /ai-detector on 2026-06-12, /ai-exam-predictor and /calculator/* on 2026-08-28, /citation/apa-citation-generator on 2026-09-18. These line up with the traffic inflection.
    • Search rankings (Brave, US store, 2026-11-07): 'free turnitin ai detector' at #2 and #9; 'ai detector' at #10; 'ai math solver' at #5; 'ai exam predictor' at #3; 'ai tutor whiteboard' at #1.
    • Back-to-school in September and mid-term paper season is exactly when 'AI detector / Turnitin' searches peak (gptzero.me also rose from 22k to 14.5k over the same period). Solvely catches that search traffic with free, no-signup detectors and calculators, then pushes the app and subscriptions on the page.
  2. UGC / campus ambassador creator network (confirmed)
    • creator.solvely.ai recruits students to shoot short videos, offering base pay + view bonuses + leaderboards, with 'high-tier $1,000+/month', plus content coaches and scripts. Posts go on dedicated project accounts, not your own, meaning a brand-funded network of small accounts (TikTok / Instagram / YouTube). The application form is a Feishu form (feishu.cn), and the team operates from China.
    • Recruiting posts on Reddit r/UGCcreators: $500–1,220 per month, 10 videos per week; Campus Ambassador recruiting on Backstage targeting the US, German-speaking, and Spanish-speaking markets.
    • A Reddit r/apps user says 'lots of TikTok creators have been promoting Sovi AI and Solvely AI lately', so the network is working.
    • The official TikTok @solvely.ai has 7,896 followers and 460 videos, with single posts getting a few thousand to 15k views (TikHub). The official account itself isn't big; the traffic is spread across the project accounts.
  3. Meta paid acquisition (confirmed)
    • metaads database: Page 'Solvelyapp' (1,523 likes), 2026-11-05 has 123 ads running and 279 historically, 92% of them video. 2025-12 ran a batch of 'Secret math hack✨' ads, and 2026-09 started switching to 'Free Premium Access for Students.' ads, with 24 in October and 17 in the first days of November, landing on solvely.go.link (Adjust deep link → Google Play). The targeted countries seen include DE / GB / JP.
    • The ad library only tracks products on its list. Solvely wasn't found in the Google Ads or TikTok ad libraries, but that doesn't mean it isn't spending there.
  4. Affiliate program (confirmed, scale not verified): solvely.ai/affiliate-program and the Rewardful backend give referrers 30% recurring commission for 6 months on web subscriptions. This only covers web subscriptions, clearly aimed at pulling payments to the web (bypassing Apple's cut).
  5. Chrome extension + LMS angle (confirmed): the /extension page leads with 'screenshot on Canvas, Blackboard, or Moodle and solve it'. The extension has 100k users and ranks at the top of its category. Extension buttons also carry Adjust attribution.
  6. Press and list endorsements (confirmed, mainly for investors, little effect on student traffic): PR Newswire press release (2026-10-10) claiming 15M users and 180+ countries, reprinted by Yahoo Finance and AiThority; Nasdaq × Notable Capital 'Prosumer AI 40'; 2026 GSV Cup 50; an Anthropic customer story on claude.com/customers/solvely.
  7. Free allowance → subscription: a limited number of free uses (Reddit says 'paywall after 3 uses'), and 'free 10 minutes a day' of whiteboard tutoring. Subscriptions are $12.99/month and $46.99/year, and there are pay-per-use 'Gems' (reviewed on dupple.com and blaze.today).

4. Why it took off

  • The money and team were already there: by end of 2024 a 4-person team had reached $6M ARR, up 6x year over year, and was raising $20M (arr.club via vcsmemo, 2024-12-25). Pitchbook records $8.1M raised from Basis Set, Canaan, and Emerge. This wave is an established, well-funded player doubling down, not a dark horse.
  • Seasonality: 9–October is Northern Hemisphere back-to-school plus midterms, and the whole category rose.
  • The seasonal spike came from a web tool site: 8–October, it launched hundreds of free tool pages and an AI-detection content cluster in 22 languages, timed right before back-to-school search peaks (Turnitin, AI detector, calculators, citation generators). This matches CrUX jumping between tiers in September and the steep Tranco rise in October.
  • Multi-channel push: UGC burner accounts (TikTok/IG/YT), Meta video paid ads, a Chrome extension, and affiliate payouts, all attributed through Adjust, with users sent to the app or a web subscription.
  • Why people stay and pay: step-by-step solutions, follow-up questions, whiteboard explanations, and quizzes plus "predicted exam questions" built from your own course materials. Most rivals just give answers, so this adds a study workflow. iOS rating 4.7; it reached the top 30 Education grossing chart in the US store.

5. Differentiation, and whether that's why it took off

Product differentiation: (1) a whiteboard AI tutor that explains as it writes and lets you circle what you don't get and ask follow-ups; (2) cross-checked answers from multiple models (the homepage says GPT / Gemini / Claude cross-verify); (3) study guides, flashcards, mock exams, and "exam prediction" generated from your own course files; (4) a Chrome extension that solves right on LMS pages from a screenshot; (5) the "learn instead of getting it done for you" positioning.

But these weren't the main reason the traffic took off. The whiteboard tutor only got a big push in Oct 20, and the extension has been around for 2024 years. This wave was mostly a distribution play: before back-to-school, the site was turned into a big, free student tool hub (detectors, calculators, citations, AP calculators) to capture long-tail SEO, plus burner accounts and paid ads. The product differentiation is what got people to pay (top 30 Education grossing in the US store), which suggests conversion is solid.

6. How visible it is

Revenue is public and widely discussed: $6M ARR was reported by arr.club / vcsmemo and getlatka 2024 years ago; Pitchbook and Crunchbase list funding; a PR Newswire release, an Anthropic customer case study, the Prosumer AI 40 list, and the GSV Cup 50 are all public. The space itself (Gauth, Question.AI, Answer.AI) was already crowded.

7. Copycats

I didn't find a product that clearly copied Solvely. Similar plays (Chinese-run AI homework solvers going global with UGC farms) include Sovi AI, which Reddit users compare directly with Solvely, plus Mathos and Mindko, which publish "Solvely alternative" comparison pages to capture its brand-name traffic. Small sites like studdyai, ahaboard, and etchly already rank for the AI whiteboard tutor term.

8. What others can learn

  • Build a matrix of free tool pages before back-to-school: cheap, deterministic tools (calculators, citation generators, word counters, AP score calculators) plus high-volume anxiety keywords (Turnitin / AI detection). All are no-signup and multilingual, and every page is an entry point to the app or subscription.
  • UGC through dedicated project accounts: pay students a base fee plus view bonuses, with coaches and scripts, and the brand owns the accounts. Costs stay controlled, and it scales quickly across countries (US, German, Spanish).
  • Web subscriptions + 30% affiliate payouts: move payments from the App Store to the web and use the saved commission to fund affiliates.
  • Attribute every entry point through Adjust (website, extension, ads), so the return on each channel can be measured.
  • The extension runs on LMS pages (Canvas / Blackboard / Moodle) and solves from a screenshot, a reliable entry point. It can be copied to other LMSs and other languages.

9. Still unclear

  • How much of the September jump came from seasonality, tool-page SEO, UGC, and paid ads can't be split out, since no source-channel data is available.
  • The 15M users figure doesn't match the 5M on the App Store page (morningtick also flagged this).
  • Actual Google search rankings weren't checked (Brave was used instead); Google Ads and TikTok ad volume wasn't found.
  • Whether it holds after finals and winter break (this category is very seasonal).
  • Whether the same seasonal spike happened in 2025 can't be compared, since the traffic library only starts in 2026-07.
