A stickman that blows up any website: a weekend game from a pixel-tools site that pushed its domain to 300k global rank
What it is A tool site for pixel game assets (a free map editor plus a subscription AI pixel generator). What went viral is the free mini-game Destroy Any Website on its subdomain: enter any URL and blow up the page with a stickman.
Why it took off The idea isn't new; a nearly identical Page Rage launched two weeks earlier and went nowhere. This one won on the creator's built-in audience on X and HN, the high polish (multiplayer, bosses, pixel art), and the angle press loves: "AI built it in a weekend, try it on your own site." Over a dozen outlets covered it within 48 hours of launch.
CHow to play it: Don't copy the viral web game itself. Copy how it spreads: build a "type in your thing, get a result" toy for your main product, host it on a subdomain, and launch it the same day on X, Show HN, and the relevant subreddits. Then route the traffic back to your core product with an embed button, a day-rate sponsor slot, and a quick open-source tool riding the wave.
Global rank 281k · 90 days ago, top 1M+
On 2026 Sep 28, French indie dev Hugo Duprez posted: "Destroy any website with a stickman." Type in any URL and the page's titles, images and boxes instantly turn into pixel levels, where you control a stickman with a bazooka and blow them apart. He says he built it in one weekend with Claude Opus 5.5. A week later the post claimed 5M views, and a dozen-plus media outlets in English, Japanese, French and German covered it. The real story isn't the game, it's where it's attached: spritefusion.com, a pixel-asset tool site he's been running for years and earning from subscriptions.
A weekend game, parked under a subscription website
Sprite Fusion began as a toolkit for pixel game makers: a free web tile-map editor (exports to Unity, Godot, Tiled), a desktop version for a one-time $14.99 purchase, a credit-based AI pixel asset generator at $9 / $19 / $49 tiers, and several open-source tools, such as Pixel Snapper, which snaps AI-generated "fake pixel" art to a grid (3,437 GitHub stars, 11-07).
The new game got no separate domain; it sits on the subdomain destroy.spritefusion.com. The game is completely free and needs no signup: 10 weapons (from pistols to "neutron stars"), a jetpack, up to 6 players blasting the same web page together (what one person destroys, everyone sees), plus boss fights and 22 military ranks you earn by logging in. It also plays on mobile. Every page carries a "made with Sprite Fusion" link back to the pixel generator.
How much it grew
Site ranking uses the Tranco global top 1M list (based on a 30-day average, so it lags by a week or two):
| Date | spritefusion.com global rank |
|---|---|
| Before 10-08 | Outside the top 1M |
| 10-15 | 596,312 |
| 10-22 | 413,945 |
| 10-29 | 300,475 |
| 11-05 | 281,097, still climbing |
In Chrome real-user stats it first entered the global top 500k sites in September, and the most-visited site in that tier was the destroy subdomain. Vietnam, where it never ranked before, jumped straight into the top 50k; Spain reached the top 100k; the US, Germany, France, the UK, Brazil and Indonesia all reached the top 500k. In other words, a rank a tool site built over several years was more than tripled in a month by one weekend game. Because rankings merge by main domain, the game's traffic is all credited to the website that sells the subscriptions.
Where users come from
Almost all of it came in the first 48 hours after launch; no sign of paid ads (inferred):
- X launch: On 9-28, the author self-reported 5M views in the first week (unverified). He's spent years building Sprite Fusion, so he already had a following on X among game and pixel-art people.
- Hacker News: A Show HN the same day reached 199 points and 42 comments.
- Reddit: The r/ClaudeAI post "Made a 'Destroy Any Website' stickman game" got about 3,400 upvotes and 195 comments, framed around "Opus 5.5 built it in a weekend"; r/aigamedev also picked it up.
- Press: Dexerto wrote about it the same day; within 9-29 day TechSpot, Daring Fireball, Boing Boing, 80 Level, OMG! Ubuntu and Japan's Game*Spark followed. Early October it was France's Clubic and Germany's t3n,10-12 XDA, all under the headline "A game made with Claude." Nearly every headline said the same thing: "Now you can blow up the website you hate most."
- Short-video repost: since October, a wave of tech accounts has been reposting it on Instagram; @setups_ai, a TikTok account with 1.81M followers, posted a "cool websites you should know" clip that got 279K views and 21K likes 10-12.
- Site owners themselves: The game's intro page offers a "Destroy this website" button embed code. Site owners put it on their own sites, and each click starts an explosion; every site with the button is one more backlink and one more entry point.
A small detail: someone in the HN comments pointed out that several accounts only hours old left "Great fun" replies. Whether people helped warm things up on launch day can't be seen from outside.
Same idea two weeks earlier: why it didn't take off
The idea isn't new. Kick Ass! (flying a little ship to shoot the current page) existed 2011 years ago, and desktop-destroyer apps smashing screenshots of your desktop go back to the 90s. Closer in time is Page Rage: launched in Sep 15, nearly the same gameplay, 13 days earlier. It got only 15 points on HN and had a brief run on Reddit's r/webdev, and its global rank has never reached the top 1M.
Someone on HN called Destroy Any Website a "vibe-coded clone" of Page Rage. Page Rage's author, Alex Reardon, replied himself: "It may have been inspired by Page Rage, or it may be a case of 'discovered it at the same time.' Either way, it's not a low-quality clone; it's clearly had a lot of care put into it."
What set it apart came down to three things: the creator's built-in launch channels (X followers plus years of visibility on HN and in the pixel-art scene), clearly higher polish (unified pixel art, multiplayer, boss fights), and an angle the press loves: "a game an AI built in a weekend." Add that a reporter can try it on their own site and it's a ready-made story (Creative Bloq's headline was literally "including our own website").
Where the money comes from
The game charges nothing. The visible monetization is two things:
- A "Sponsored – your site here" slot on the game homepage, $250 a day, so every player sees your site by default (Stripe checkout page 10-29 built, sales unknown).
- Drive players back to the main site: every page says made with Sprite Fusion. 10-19 also open-sourced a pixel normal-map tool while the iron was hot, 10-22 gained 338 stars in a single day, pulling the crowd toward the developers.
How much of the game traffic turned into pixel-generator subscriptions hasn't been disclosed, and it can't be estimated from outside.
Others are already copying it
- destroyanywebsite.dev: a same-name site whose homepage is stuffed with "destroy any website / stickman destroy website" keywords to grab search traffic, with added coins and characters, still being updated by 10-16. The official intro page explicitly says "the only official address is destroy.spritefusion.com."
- A Chinese remake on GitHub, ychisbest/destroy-any-website, also supports multiplayer.
- Chrome extension "Stickman Web Destroyer — Page Rampage", 10-04 listed, blows up the current page directly.
If it were you
C: Don't build a "web destruction" game—the idea is 2011 years old, a clone that launched two weeks earlier never took off, and now clone sites, copycat versions, and extensions are all out, so the buzz is one-time. What's worth learning is the play: build a mass-market viral toy for your main product and host it under your own domain.
Who it fits: indie devs who already have a tool product (even a niche one) and some visibility in an X / HN / Reddit circle; people who can use AI to ship a reasonably polished mini toy in a weekend or two.
Who it doesn't fit: anyone without a main product who wants to earn from the mini game itself—these toys don't charge, and a $250/day sponsor slot may not sell for days; anyone without a launch channel—Page Rage proves that with the same idea, without people amplifying it, you get 15 points.
How to do it: the toy should tie to your main product (Sprite Fusion used its own pixel art), and have a "put in your thing, get a result" hook—a URL, name, photo, GitHub account—so everyone and every journalist tries it with their own stuff, and results are naturally screenshot- and clip-worthy. Put it on a subdomain of your main domain, not a new domain, so traffic and backlinks credit the main site. Leave a path back to the main site on every page, and offer an "embed on your site" button code.
How to get users: hit X + Show HN + one or two relevant subreddits on the same day; write a post about "how I built it with AI in a few days" for AI communities, which is a different audience. Prepare a ready-made intro page (how it works, screenshots, one-liner) so journalists can copy from it directly. Once traffic picks up, immediately open day-priced sponsor slots, and while it's hot, release a related open-source tool to route the curious toward your actual users.
When is "before": there's no deadline—this is a playbook you can run anytime; but the "built with AI over a weekend" angle is getting overused, so the later you go, the more the toy itself has to be fun.
What signals you misread it: ① spritefusion.com's ranking drops back beyond 500k in December—meaning viral toy traffic comes fast and leaves fast, with nothing left behind; ② the creator or others publicly report the game brought few subscriptions—then this playbook only bought reputation; ③ conversely, if clone sites like destroyanywebsite.dev hold traffic through search, it means "web destruction" itself has long-tail demand, and following it is worth more than the judgment here suggests.

Why spritefusion.com (Sprite Fusion / Destroy Any Website) surged
Research day 2026-11-07. The data card calls it Pixel Snapper, and the recall reason guesses the traffic came from "AI pixel-art repair." On digging in, that's not it: the main driver of the ranking climb was the web mini-game Destroy Any Website (destroy.spritefusion.com), released by the creator 2026-09-28; the image tool Pixel Snapper is just an older product under the same domain.
One line
French indie dev Hugo Duprez spent three years on a pixel-game tools site (tilemap editor + AI pixel asset generator). 2026-09-28 He built a browser game in one weekend with Claude Opus 5.5: type in a URL, watch a stick figure wreck the webpage. It runs on a subdomain of his own domain. The X launch post (he says it hit 5M views in week one) + a Show HN 199 points + over 24–48 hours, a dozen-plus tech and gaming outlets covered it, and repost accounts on Instagram and TikTok spread it further. Tranco groups domains by registrable domain, so the game traffic pushed spritefusion.com from outside the list to 280k.
What it is
- Main site www.spritefusion.com: free browser tile map editor (exports to Unity / Godot / Defold / Tiled / VTT; desktop version $14.99 one-time purchase), AI pixel-asset generator / animator (subscriptions at $9/450, $19/1,050, $49/3,000 credit tiers), free open-source tool Pixel Snapper (AI pixel-image grid alignment, 3,437 GitHub stars, built in 2025-11-24), normal map generator (open source, repo built 2026-10-19, 10-22 with +338 stars in one day). Also offers an API and MCP service. Sources: homepage, /pixel-art-generator; GitHub repo repo_profile (2026-11-07).
- destroy.spritefusion.com: Destroy Any Website. Enter any URL, and the page's text, images, and divs become standable, destructible pixel levels; 10 adds weapons, a jetpack, up to 6-player multiplayer, boss fights, 22 military ranks (login required), installable to phone home screen (PWA), and a "Destroy this website" embed badge. TypeScript + Canvas 2D, multiplayer on Cloudflare Durable Objects. Sources: destroy.spritefusion.com/about; XDA 2026-10-12.
- Monetization: the game itself is free; the homepage "Sponsored – Your site here" = $250/day "site of the day" slot (Stripe checkout, built 2026-10-29); game pages everywhere say "made with Sprite Fusion" and link back to the pixel generator subscription.
Growth data
- Tranco (traffic library): before 2026-10-08 the weekly ranking was not in the top 1M → 10-15 596,312 → 10-22 413,945 → 10-29 300,475 → 11-05 281,097, still rising. Tranco is a 30-day rolling average, lagging 1–2 weeks, so the real peak falls from late September to mid-October.
- CrUX (traffic library): 2026-09 globally first entered the top 500k; the best origin globally at this tier is destroy.spritefusion.com (Taiwan too); the www main site had been in the top 500k in Japan, Korea, and the Philippines since 2026-05 (the tools site's old base), and in September Vietnam jumped to the top 50k, Spain to the top 100k, and the US, Germany, France, Brazil, Indonesia, etc. rose from outside the top 1M/unlisted into the top 500k.
- Author claims: X launch thread got 5M+ views in its first week; About page says "seen by millions". Unverified.
- TikTok (TikHub search 2026-11-07): repost account @setups_ai (1.81M followers) 10-12 posted "Powerful websites you should know" introducing it, 279k views, 21k likes; most others are small accounts with a few thousand views. Instagram has many tech-media account reels (Dexerto, LevelEighty, etc.; view counts not retrieved).

| None seen | Ads | It's not in our Meta / Google / TikTok ad libraries (card ads are empty; ad libraries only track a roster, so absence doesn't prove no spend, but this playbook doesn't look like paid acquisition) |
The theme is naturally shareable: "type in any URL and blow it up"—media test it on their own sites (Creative Bloq's headline reads "including ours"), and users blow up their company sites or sites they dislike; screenshots and clips are the content.

Copycats (already copying)
- destroyanywebsite.dev: a same-name clone site, homepage stuffed with SEO copy for "destroy any website / destroy website game / stickman destroy website", adds coins, characters, Journey mode; 2026-10-16 updated. The official about page specifically says "its only official address is destroy.spritefusion.com".
- github.com/ychisbest/destroy-any-website: a Chinese "remake", playable in the browser, supports multiplayer.
- Chrome extension Stickman Web Destroyer (10-04), r/chrome_extensions "An extension to enable destroying of any page".
- HN commenters also said it's a "vibe-coded clone" of Page Rage, and the Page Rage author came out to say it's "parallel discovery", not a low-quality clone.
Why it took off (and not Page Rage from two weeks earlier)
- Killer hook, zero friction: type in a URL, watch it get destroyed; 10 seconds to the effect, so results are naturally screen-recordable and shareable; media can write a story just by blowing up their own site.
- The creator had ready distribution: Hugo has run Sprite Fusion for years, has an audience of game devs and pixel-art folks on X, and has posted on HN and r/aigamedev before (multiple Show HNs from ref 2025-12 onward in the cards); the X post gained traction on launch day and Dexerto covered it the same day. Page Rage was its author's "first game" and only got 15 points on HN.
- Noticeably more polished: unified pixel art, 10 adds weapons, multiplayer, bosses, ranks, mobile play. Page Rage's author admitted it "has a lot of thought, not a low-quality clone."
- Rode the "built in a weekend with AI" story: an r/ClaudeAI post about building it with Opus 5.5, XDA ran it as a "Claude-built game", and Boing Boing filed it under the trend of "vibecoding reviving web toys".
- Lives under an old domain: the game sits on a spritefusion.com subdomain, Tranco/CrUX merge by registrable domain, so all game traffic is credited to the main site; the main site already had tool-site roots (CrUX top 500k in Japan and Korea long ago).
Differentiation
- For similar toys: the difference is polish + multiplayer + pixel art + the creator's built-in distribution, not the idea itself (Kick Ass 2011 already had it, and Page Rage came two weeks earlier). That difference is genuinely why it beat Page Rage.
- For pixel tool competitors (PixelLab etc.): Sprite Fusion's edge is "free editor + open-source small tools (Pixel Snapper, normal map tool) as the entry point, subscription generator to make money". That's its long-term foundation, but it's not the reason for this round of growth.
- The real play is "make a viral small toy to funnel traffic to the core product": the game page is packed with made with Sprite Fusion and links back to the pixel generator, the homepage sells $250/day ad slots, and 10-19 rode the wave to release an open-source normal map tool (3 days, 300+ stars).
What to borrow
- Build a viral toy for a tool product that's related to the core business (made with your own assets/engine) but aimed at the general public, hosted on a subdomain of your own domain to build domain authority and backlinks.
- A personalized hook of "enter any URL/name and get a result": media and users will try it on their own stuff, which carries its own spread.
- Hit X + Show HN + the matching subreddits on the same day, and have press assets ready (the about page is itself a press release + coverage roundup).
- An embed badge (Destroy this website) turns site owners into a distribution channel; once traffic arrives, immediately put up sponsor slots sold by the day.
- Ride the wave by shipping a related open-source tool, moving player traffic toward the developer crowd.
Still unclear
- How much of the game traffic converted to pixel generator subscriptions; the author hasn't disclosed revenue (not found in TrustMRR / indie databases).
- The real view count of the X launch post (author claims 5M, not captured in our X corpus).
- How long the heat lasts: Tranco is a 30-day average and still rising, which may just be lag; CrUX October data isn't out yet.
- Who had the idea first, Page Rage or Destroy: Page Rage came 13 days earlier; whether the authors borrowed from each other is unknown.
- How many "Site of the Day" slots at $250/day actually sold.
