For iPhone users: a one-tap app that strips ads and preinstalls from Android / Google TV and turns it into a clean home screen; one-time purchase or small subscription.
- Status
- Running on Android (a free community version already exists there and is narrowing); iOS is still empty
- Why now, and how long the window lasts
- Media just hyped "smart TVs going dumb" (412 articles in two weeks). The free Android version isn't on the store yet, and nobody is doing iOS. I'd guess someone ships an iOS version within 1–3 months, or an open-source app hits the store and locks in "free" as the expectation for this.
- Confidence
- Medium. Demand signals are strong (stars, media coverage, paid desktop apps on GP). Whether it can be built for iOS and pass review is unverified. This would be overturned if: the community edition ships on GP and an iOS version comes out; Google blocks pm disable-user in a Google TV system update; or App Store review sets a rejection precedent.

- App Store (all stores, 2026-10-31): No App charting for ADB cleanup or launcher swaps on TV. Yet "Remote for Android TV" (1668755298), an iPhone remote for Android TV, has 40,218 ratings. Plenty of people use an iPhone with an Android TV.
Already doing it
cleanyourtv (command line + Claude Code, free), a community Android app (free, not on the store), desktop apps like Projectivy (only swap the launcher, don't remove preinstalled apps, no ADB needed). Backfill additions (11-02): free-my-tv (one-click restore on all three platforms, free), dumbtv (Fire TV), CleanFrame (Samsung The Frame), tellyscope (phone app), tv-fresh (Xiaomi TV Agent Skill), UrTV / chistytv / vgs-cleantv (localized into Arabic, Russian and Vietnamese, all with tens to a couple hundred stars).
The hardest step
On iOS you'd have to build the ADB over Wi-Fi protocol yourself (including RSA pairing and wireless debugging pairing for Android 11+), and maintain a blacklist of system packages that must never be disabled. cleanyourtv's issues already include cases of TVs being bricked (#884, #1578), and every failure brings refunds and bad reviews. Also, how App Store review treats "operating someone else's device" is uncertain (my inference).
Who it's for
Indie devs who know Android and can ship iOS; one-time purchases of $4.99–9.99 or small subscriptions for "re-clean after every TV OS update"; focused on English-speaking markets and Europe (where TCL, Xiaomi, Hisense, and Sony TVs are common).
Should every product builder know this?
No, it's pretty niche. But the play of "take a hit GitHub project that runs on Claude Code → turn it into a consumer app that needs no coding" is worth knowing.
