AI interactive story / character plot apps (chat with an AI character to move the plot forward; subscription + in-app purchase credits): a dozen-plus appeared in 2026, and generic versions are crowded. The only differentiator is switching the "format" (e.g., solving cases by going through strangers' phones).

- Low-medium (the crowding of supply is high confidence; whether format innovation makes money is low confidence).
Evidence
Grouped by store. Each group starts with the charts that can be graphed (real curves, data dates below the chart), then the scanner's original notes and source links.

- Cleared the bar (11-04): Peekie: Stories & Choices (App Store 6792978953, Intelli Future INC, launched 8-06; GP ai.peekie.app 106,159 installs). New ratings over two days were 71, 8× its daily average since launch; 406 ratings in the US store at 4.59★, and #36 in the gb Entertainment free chart. The same day SeaChat: Live Your Story (SeaArt, GP, launched 62 days ago) first entered the Sweden Top Grossing overall chart at #193. Whispy AI, which I was tracking a few days ago, also falls in this group.

Other sources (official sites, press releases, web pages) 2 pieces of evidence
- How it makes money (Peekie's listing): some content and AI interactions require a subscription or in-app credits.
- Peekie's format: not pure chat, but "going through a stranger's phone": finding clues in messages, photos, emails, maps and recordings to solve a case, or dating inside a phone that feels real. Available in 9 languages.
Standalone product revenue (TrustMRR) 1 pieces of evidence
- Didn't match: no public revenue for this category among indies; Meta keyword list doesn't include this area, so ad spend isn't visible.
My take
"AI that chats through the plot with you" is already a paid-acquisition red ocean, led by big players like SeaArt and studios from Vietnam and Singapore, competing for the same players as [085] (AI companions) and [078] (AI generation wrappers). A small team can only break in by making something in the "format" that others can't copy. Peekie's "case solved inside a phone" (similar to phone-simulation puzzle games like Simulacra / Replica, plus AI) is the only sample so far that looks different, but it has only a few hundred ratings and its revenue is unknown.
What would upgrade it
Peekie charting top 50 in Entertainment Top Grossing in any major store; or a second "format-innovation" interactive story app (not plain chat) breaking out. Close condition: Peekie's rating growth drops back below 5 per day within two weeks.
Who it's for
Small teams that can do narrative design / puzzle game work, not people who can just plug into an API.
Should every product builder know this?
No.
